Temporary DLC Outage Starting April 3rd on Select Consoles, Regions

The official @RockBand Twitter recently tweeted a link to an announcement over at the RockBand.com forums from @HMXHenry about some temporary changes coming to DLC. Starting on April 1st,  players on the PS3 (Europe and Australia only) and the Nintendo Wii will experience a temporary interruption in new DLC and RBN DLC offerings.

Existing DLC will still be available (and available exports will still be possible) to those outlined above, but due to changes in publishing arrangements as a result of Harmonix becoming an independent developer once again, new DLC will be taking a break for a little while. There is no announced date as to when service will resume, but Harmonix expects service to return to normal sometime in the summer.

Players on the Xbox 360 and North America PS3 players should not be affected by these changes.

UPDATE: Based on some of the community feedback, we’re adding additional clarity to the article… for those that read the articles before providing said feedback, anyway.

Harmonix has updated the effective date of the DLC outage to April 3rd, to convince people that this is not some sort of April Fool’s Day prank. The DLC normally scheduled for that day will be the first in the scheduled down time. The estimated downtime is being quoted at this time by @HMXHenry as roughly “three months,” and could (and will) change depending upon how proceedings progress.

Also, Harmonix is noting that the process to update the publishing arrangements is about a year old, and some console makers/regions are more timely in their legal wranglings than others, so anger directed at Harmonix is clearly misdirected.

Once everything has been resolved, while there are no guarantees, @HMXHenry expects that the backlog of missed DLC should be made available in increments to help those affected catch up to everyone else.

Wii Giveaway – Country Track Pack

Didn’t win a DLC code for the Soundgarden 6-pack coming out next week through the #SoundgardenRB promotion on Twitter? I have a feeling there may be more chances next week. ;) Until then, we’ve got another quick giveaway for the Wii players out there.

Similar to the Track Pack Volume 1 and Metal Track Pack giveaways, we’re going to use the same rules as before. Again, huge thanks to @HMXThrasher for hooking us up with a few Rock Band track packs for the Nintendo Wii while I was out at PAX East waaaay back in March!

If you’re interested in picking up a copy of prize shown above, follow the rules to enter below and you’ll be entered to win a copy of the Rock Band  ”Country Track Pack” for the Nintendo Wii.

  1. To enter, simply post your favorite Rock Band country song in the comments, but read on…
  2. ONE entry per household. Each comment is one entry, so please don’t respond to other people’s comments, because when I do a data dump from the comments, it looks like you’ve tried to enter twice, and your entries become invalid. Also, if for some reason you’re not sure your comment “went through,” instead of entering it again to make sure, wait a few minutes and refresh the comments to check.
  3. I will shop worldwide for this contest, so feel free to enter from where ever you are, provided you play on the Wii.
  4. I will select one winner randomly from the entries tomorrow (7/14) after 12:00 pm CENTRAL time.

Good luck!

Has it really been a month since PAX East has been over?! Wow… I’m really dragging my feet on a few things, aren’t I? Well to make amends, I’ve got a few small giveaways in the works, starting with this one.

HUGE thanks to @HMXThrasher for hooking me up with a few Rock Band track packs for the Nintendo Wii while I was out at PAX East!!! (Spoiler: That means more Wii track pack giveaways are coming!)

These Consoles Keep Getting RBN Content… Not So Fast, Wii

Yes, it looks like the Wii, the red-headed stepchild console of the Rock Band community, will be ending it’s scheduled run with RBN content next week. In today’s announcement for next week’s DLC, @HMXHenry explained it thusly:

Next Tuesday, 1/18/2010, will also be the last scheduled batch of Rock Band Network songs brought over to the Wii. With the smaller online install base, limited demand for releases so far and the significant amount of work it takes for our producers and audio team to convert and process these additional tracks we’re no longer able to continue submitting RBN content to the Wii. Regular Wii DLC, and RBN releases for the 360 and PS3 will continue uninterrupted.

Sorry, kids. My heart goes out to the Wii owners.

Wii RBN DLC for 1/18

  • Band of Horses – The Great Salt Lake
  • Cetan Clawson and the Soul Side – White Heat
  • Firewind – Head Up High
  • The Main Drag – How We’d Look On Paper
  • OK Go – White Knuckles
  • Wounded Soul – Rx
