Thursday Throwback: “Troublemaker” by Weezer

For this week’s pick, I’ve dug a bit deeper and further into Rock Band’s history for this track. The track was released in mid 2008, with many more packs released afterwards from the band. This week, I’ve chosen Weezer’s Troublemaker.
Weezer has had fifteen songs released on the platform, which is broken down into four three-packs of songs (released in 2008, early 2009, late 2009 and late 2011), two singles, and an on disc song from the original Rock Band. Formed in 1992, Weezer has released nine albums (with a tenth planned for next year) and six EP’s, with total sales over nine million in the US alone.
The song I have picked is actually one of the few songs I have heard from the band. Troublemaker was included on Weezer’s sixth album, nicknamed The Red Album. The single was released in 2008, peaking at #2 on the US Modern Rock charts, and arrived June 2008 in the first Weezer pack on Rock Band, along with The Greatest Man That Ever Lived and Dreamin’.
Although some of the lyrics might seen as “questionable” to some, they are a prime example of Weezer’s use of funny lyrics to show they don’t take themselves too seriously. Some example of lyrics:
And I don’t need a single book
To teach me how to read
And I will learn by studying
The lesson in my dreams
Like many songs in Rock Band, it features an instantly recognizable guitar riff, which repeats for the majority of the song, with variations in the chorus and near the end of the song. The drums are basic, which look like they will be similar on either drums or pro drums. The bass chart helps give the song have more depth. And as you would expect from weezer, the vocals are great too.
Here’s a full band playthrough:
For something extra, if you head on over to youtube, you can hear an acoustic version of the song, which the band performed for AOL Sessions, around the time of the album’s release. Enjoy!
I would appreciate it if you would have a look at my growing fansite, The Tribute Pages which features tributes of video games (including Rock Band 3), TV shows and movies. Thank you!

Harmonix Livestream Reveals Three Artists Coming to DLC

The Harmonix Holiday Livestream ended just moments ago, and with it brought three artists coming in early 2012 as DLC. Artists Bush and Hall & Oates will be making their Rock Band debut, and will be joined by Huey Lewis & the News. There was no mention of specific songs coming, but Harmonix did get a jump start on speculation by saying that these artists will only be featured in three-packs.
Harmonix did tease in a very subtle way the Rush 2112 rumor, but John Drake’s hushed “It’s coming soon” comment when it was “accidentally” mentioned seemed to keep it alive. Up for interpretation is whether it was tongue-in-cheek, or serious in nature. Considering Harmonix’s Rush DLC announcement from earlier this month mentioned more Rush news before the end of the year (which is next week), we should hopefully see resolution on this by the end of the week.
And for those who listened to the Rock Band podcast on Friday, Rock Band 3 will be featured as a Xbox 360 Games on Demand title starting tomorrow. If for some reason you still don’t have this game, I don’t recommend taking advantage of this offer, as any theoretical export of Rock Band 3 wouldn’t be possible due to the lack of a hard copy manual with the Games on Demand version.
