Swag Week on RockBandAide!

As you are full aware, I attended E3 earlier this summer. Super amazing Rock Band 3 awesomeness aside, the fine folks at Harmonix (mostly @thebeststeph, who truly is the BEST) grabbed me a whole bunch of swag before I left to give away here on the site. While the giveaways were not the highest on my priority list, this is FAR later than I ever wanted to give out some of this stuff, and I humbly apologize.

Now, party because I’m lazy and partly because I want fan participation here (who am I kidding, it’s ALL because I’m lazy), I figured the first giveaway will be based on finding the best contest ideas for the remainder of the week. I have essentially TEN different items to giveaway, so anyone saying they NEVER win anything should see higher odds than in the past.

Here’s what I’ve got in total:

  • FOUR THREE white Rock Band 3 shirts (all Smalls)
  • THREE TWO ONE black Rock Band 3 shirt, that I believe sayS PRO on the back (again, all Smalls)
  • ONE Rock Band “Griffin” shirt (Medium)
  • ONE Rock Band “Flying Skull” boxers (Large)
  • ONE Rock Band “Flying Skull” boxers (Medium)
  • Codes for redeemable credit for DLC (FIVE THREE for the PS3, THREE TWO ONE for Xbox 360)

I apologize in advance that many of the shirt sizes are smaller, but beggars can’t be choosers. Since there’s a large volume of giveaways, I’m unfortunately restricting this to US only (since I’m shipping all this stuff at my expense). I’ll have more giveaways in the future that will be country neutral.

I’ll choose the person with the best contest idea that I will use randomly throughout the week and let them choose an item from above, and I’ll also throw in a DLC code for their system (while supplies last). I’ll choose a winner around 8:00 PM (Central) tonight, so don’t wait! Enter as often as you like, but quantity is not the name of the game in something like this. (Neither is “Give it to me!”)

OK, so with that out of the way, how should I decide to give this stuff away?

Thats fun but the photocreator hasn’t worked in a few months.

  • Have readers create a “Day in the Life of a Video Game Rockstar” and the best one gets a prize.

Record a music video of one of the songs announced for rock band 3 so far.

Have us make a guess at new features in.. ROCK BAND 4 (instruments, modes, songs). Best ideas win.

How about, Best reason why they deserve to win something cool.

My idea for a contest is to post a pic of the receipt for your preorder of RB3 or an album that you want for dlc.

  • Hines says:

I think whoever can make the most annoying post about either how their favorite band isn’t included in RB DLC, or how they hate X week of DLC should win a prize.

    I like this. DO IT

  • HeyRiles says:

I thought of two more, for the heck of it

~~Coolest in-game guitar design. Post a picture of the guitar your character uses in RB2

~~Coolest plastic guitar design. Post a picture of the plastic guitar you use while playing Rock Band, with all its awesome custom design

  • My idea for a contest would be: Who can write the best song about RockBandAide? But it must be to the tune of a song on Rock Band 3.

  • Adam says:

I think you need to have a contest that starts tomorrow for friday. Each person will guess 5 bands, all guessing which band will be DLC on friday, and whoever gets it right, or gets the most bands correct wins something. :]

if a person knows a developer, it gives them an advantage, so that wouldnt really work

How about a guitar skills competition on an existing Rock band song…pick one in particular. The person who turns in a screenshot of the LOWEST SCORE possible without failing out of a song wins. So you can’t just fire up Panic Attack expert and only get 2% of the song done, you have to play through the whole thing, play miserably, and Try to save your game from getting better than 2 stars. And it would be for solo artists only, it’s easy enough to force a 2 star rating with a band (did it with my 6 year old).

I’m relatively new to RockBandAide, but in the initial Twitter DLC Reaction Segment, it appeared that the webmaster is constantly trying to develop new, and engaging content for visitors. So, why not have us, the end users of the website, help out by chiming in as to what kinds of ongoing features we would be interested in seeing? That way, we’re all winners in the sense that, even if you don’t win the jackpot by scoring some swag, everyone will benefit from a better RockBandAide website in the process… If that makes sense.

    JQTNguyen Reply:

Also, with a contest like this, everyone gets a fair shake at winning without the need for additional hardware, software, or elite gaming skills.

  • Jordan says:

My first impression would be a contest for people to guess what artists/songs are going to be on the rest of the setlist. The problem is, since we don’t know when it’s going to be announced, we wouldn’t know how long it would take for a winner to be announced. Would be fun, though, since a lot of people love guessing the setlist (and a lot being spot-on accurate), so why not get something free for getting it right?

  • The Sound Defense says:

How about a survey of the best use of the new Rock Band 3 functions? Like, name a song that effectively uses lots of harmonies and a keyboard and such. I don’t know, just thinking out loud.

  • RedIon1992 says:

Hmmm… I’m thinking a competition to have people describe their best/most fun chart in RB. Could be broken down by instrument.

For example, for Drums, I’d be voting Medicate by AFI, because it’s fast and frantic, but also moves a lot around the kit, with some off-beat notes for variety, and it’s not too complex to understand (compared to, say, the second half of Pearl Jam’s Even Flow).

  • Mavwick says:

    A few ideas:

-A “worst new feature” idea for fun. This could include bad instruments or gameplay ideas. This could be a photoshop contest or simply write-in.

-A photography contest: simply take the best picture of people playing Rock Band. No costumes or silly locations, just people rocking out in their living rooms.

-Keyboard Hero: Submit RB-compatible songs which would are must-haves for the new instrument. (RB-compatible being songs which at least feature guitars and drums as well.)

  • Alvaro says:

How about recreating a character from comic con in the Rockband character creator? Best one wins.

  • Bionic92 says:

You should do a contest were you take a sound-clip of a song and you have to name the song, band, and maybe the album.

  • Delibird444 says:

I think part of the contest should go toward helping come up with an idea to upgrade current DLC. Help come up with a reasonable way for Harmonix to update existing DLC for Rock Band 3. Include pricing options (how the upgrade tracks would be priced, NOT new DLC [after RB3 release] prices), how it could be done in-line with new DLC, what songs should should have priority over others, how labels\artists should be told and percentage of profit they’d make compared to Harmonix and the console makers, etc.

The most creative idea that could be done (without causing too much financial and exhausting damage to Harmonix) wins!

  • Soupiertiger says:

I think that you should play a game kinda like how Harmonix announced bands last saturday. Give clues, and have people guess the band you are talking about within a certain time frame. Out of the people that get it right, pick one randomly. You could make the clues very difficult.

    Or

You could have people make up a list of songs for the rest of the setlist. You could then rate how well you think the setlist makes use of the features, and songs that just sound fun to play. This could make everyone reading the lists have a more open music taste, it would fun and would make it so more people would get the opportunity to enter, and it seems fair.

  • DarkFox says:

Person with the most (or most intricate) “I <3 RockBandAide" home-made merch wins? Unfortunately, I would lose this contest, but I suppose that won't stop me from proposing it. -Thumbs up-

  • big dave says:

so in order to win the contest, we have to come up with our own contest? i say whoever comes up with the best idea for the best way to come up with a contest wins the contest, and therefore, wins the overall contest.

  • Mike_Sandbag says:

Oh this sounds cool. :) What if the contest was…

“Create a character using the Rock Band Character Creator that looks the most like you (RBATommy) complete with clothes and accessories.” :)

  • Tommy says:

Each week there could be a competition who can create the best look a like character on anyone from the weeks DLC release.

  • Cory Q. says:

Maybe whoever can design an ad for Rockband 3 the best, either just a picture or a video too.

  • Ryan O says:

For a contest you could have someone take a picture of you playing rockband in your pajamas/comfortable sleepwear and just pick a random picture that will be the winner. =))
