Harmonix Wants Your Feedback on Future Band-Centric Games
Over at the RockBand.com forums, @HMXHenry posted a poll asking for community feedback regarding which band-centric games, if any, you would be interested in. There are currently five bands listed:
- The Eagles
- Pink Floyd
- Led Zeppelin
- U2
- Queen
There’s also a section where you can write in a band that you think should have it’s own game (i.e. Muse), so if you want to be heard, head on over and fill it out.
And just for the record, I selected Led Zeppelin and U2… I encourage you to do the same!
[Thanks @sumboxcar182!]

I selected Queen, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd… if a U2 game could ignore the past fifteen years, I could get behind that, though.
Not that the Eagles are bad, but just not as much of their music I want to play.
Queen, Floyd and Zep for me
It’s gotta be Queen, Zep and Floyd.
Zep and U2 for me. Floyd had some good albums but as a career are not that great.

Yes! I know people will hate me for this, but a Pink Floyd game in my opinion would just be boring. Same as the Eagles. Queen would be cool, but we already have some of their biggest songs in Rock Band, so it’s probably not necessary. Also… WHERE THE HELL IS THE ROLLING STONES?! Am I taking crazy pills, or has everyone forgotten about them?!

Agreed on all points. The only Floyd era the mass audience cares about is from Dark Side through the Wall….that’s only four albums. The early psychedelic stuff is not widely known or loved, and the post-Wall stuff is seen by many to not even really be “real” Floyd. DLC full albums, YES. Full game, no.
And as my spiritual mentor would say, “I hate fuckin’ Eagles, Man.”
Zep, Queen, and Floyd for me. Yes, I know we already have lots of Queen songs, but come on — seeing Freddy strutting around in his various guises in the game would be great. A Bowie-centered game would be great like that too. And Floyd could make SUCH good use of Beatles-style dreamscapes that it would offset the relative torpor of a lot of their songs.
Zep is hands-down the best of the bunch, though. Lots of great venues to choose from, lots of phases the bands went through, the largest array of great and challenging songs to choose from … and the dreamscapes would be fantastic, too.
Eagles, meh. I prefer the couple James Gang songs we have for my Joe Walsh fix. And U2 was just barely nudged off by Queen. I feel like Edge’s jingle-jangle guitar might be a real pain in the neck to play in the game, particularly in song after song.
As for the Stones, I agree: where did they go? I was kinda hoping we’d get an Exile on Main Street pack next week. I put them down as my answer to the “Any other bands?” question. I will not rest until I can play Monkey Man in Rock Band.
I think Rolling Stones are under Activision’s thumb.

Pretty sure the Eagles were too…
I want to see a Rock Band game devoted to everything Dave Grohl has done. Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, and all the other random stuff he’s done drums on (NIN, Pete Yorn, Slash, etc)

There is already a Dave Grohl game, it’s called Rock Band.
Zeppelin would be incredible!!! but I do believe Plant is against selling music to video games, hopefully that has or will change. $$$
Floyd or U2 would be great games as well.
The Stones – I would take over Queen or the Eagles any day.
Queen doesn’t have enough left in their Catalog.
Eagles, no thanks.
I would personally love a Radiohead game but I know it would bore the drummers to tears.
Porcupine Tree!!!
I voted U2, I mean I have some interest in Queen but only select songs. Then I have no interest in Floyd or Zepp. The Eagles only good song is Hotel California.
I wrote in Dream Theater even though it won’t ever happen. The band and genre isn’t big enough.
I put down Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and The Eagles
The Eagles have some great songs (besides hotel california), though the game might not be so fun (atleast drum wise)
Pink Floyd has some great and memorable albums, though some older stuff plus they’re last three albums are more unknown.
Led Zeppelin would just be awesome hard rock all the way through, and would be fun.
With U2, I barely know ANY of their catalog, maybe it would be fun, but idk.
With Queen, it would be awesome, but they’re the only band from the list with songs already in the game.
Thats just my opinion though.
PS, for other band to be considered, i put the doors. I dont think we’ll see Rolling Stones in this game anytime soon, since they, like jimmy page, discourage people playing music games.
In my humble opinion, U2 is one of the most BORING, BLAND and UNINTERESTING bands out there.
A Pink Floyd Rock Band would suck, it would be really boring.
Here’s what I want: a Dire Straits Rock Band. Now there’s a band with a LOT of hits, and that manages to create accessible and beautiful music. Also, if you want to add even more flavor to the game, add a couple of Mark Knopfler songs to the mix. “What It Is”, “Quality Shoe”, “Old Pigweed”, “A Night in Summer Long Ago”, “Darling Pretty”, “Golden Heart”, “Cannibals”, “Done With Bonaparte”, SO MANY GREAT SONGS.
Also, I’d KILL to play “Local Hero (Wild Theme)” on Rock Band. KILL.

U2 is boring and bland, but Dire Straits is up your alley.
Oooookayyyy…….

Yes. U2 is boring and bland. It’s vanilla rock, mildly pleasant.
Mark Knopfler is a legend. Show me anything that U2 has ever written that has the soul of “Local Hero (Wild Theme)”. There isn’t. Each of Knopfler’s songs have distinct personalities. U2 makes generic rock.

Yes, Walk of Life just reeks of soulfulness and passion. Yep.
We need the Rolling Stones Rock Band , it would be absolutely great to play and harmoinix can get a fantastic use of all otheir historic venues, and all the classics they have.
“Yes, Walk of Life just reeks of soulfulness and passion. Yep.”
Couldn’t compare a single U2 song with “Local Hero (Wild Theme)”, eh? I don’t blame you. You’ve picked an impossible fight.
And still, “Walk of Life”, which is a very unpretentious, yet fun song by Dire Straits, is better than tons of U2 hits, such as the soulless “Vertigo” or the unbearable “Beautiful Day”. Hell, the very intro of “Walk of Life” has more personality than the entire U2 discography.
Really, I think it’s funny that you’re even trying to compare the two. By all means, keep doing it. Why don’t you go and listen to “Vertigo” first, and ask yourself: “now isn’t this a song that ANY rock band could have composed?”. The same can’t be said about “Walk of Life”, and it’s one of the simplest Dire Straits songs.

I don’t think an artist’s worth is measured solely on album sales and popularity, but rather longevity. The fact the U2 has been making albums for three full decades and won 22 Grammies in the process speaks to their talent. People can hate on them as much as they want (my fiancee hates them), but you can’t deny that they’re one of the most iconic rock bands that is still putting out new material (although their latest album was “meh”).
Andre, I think the fact that you know songs by U2 speaks to their ubiquity in rock, while “I Want My MTV” (which I’m pretty sure isn’t the title, sorry) is the only song I know of by Dire Straits. I’m not trying to slam them or the quality of the music, but you can’t argue that they just aren’t on the same level as the bands listed in the poll.
With that being said, I definitely think there should be some Dire Straits DLC!

U2 hatred is insanely irrational. There are plenty of bands I do not personally like but don’t get all crazy about trying to lower their merit in what people enjoy. Coldplay, perfect example. I hate them completely, but to argue they suck or whatever would be ignoring the facts or at the very least, intellectually disingenous. They are very popular and through, imo maudlin and boring, obviously skilled musicians. To argue otherwise woudl be as wrong and personally directed as the U2 haters are.

And objection on the last album! Yeah, Boots is pretty weak, but the title track, Crazy, and most especially Magnificent are well worth the price of admission. I am also one of the most passionate defenders of the Pop album you will ever find. Very unfairly maligned album.

Perhaps you should get to know them a little better. Buy their live concert “Dire Straits On The Night”. I’m sure you’ll understand, from that concert alone, how they’d be a much better candidate for a Rock Band game than U2. Believe me, you’ll fall in love with the band. And they don’t even play “Sultans of Swing” in that concert.

I’d also advise you to get to know Mark Knopler’s solo career as well. He’s a darn good musician.
I know U2 because I like listening to music, that’s all. I also know Alice Cooper’s entire catalogue, an artist most rockers (unfortunately) haven’t bothered to get to know as well. So I’m not a good example. But I do know many people that know Dire Straits’ work much better than they know U2′s.
And metallichris71 dodges the challenge once again. I’ll just call it quits. I don’t have time to waste with your type.
I’d be very happy with a Floyd game (up through The Wall (screw that David Gimour-led crap). Visually, it has the potential to be amazing. Led Zeppelin would be fun to play, and it’s nice to see that they’re on the radar. I don’t know that there are 45 more Queen songs that I would absolutely want aside from A Night at the Opera full-album DLC (which I’m anticipating in some form) and maybe a dozen or so other as-yet unreleased tracks, but I’d probably buy it.
There are several U2 tracks I would love to have in the game, and as a full-game choice, they’re a damned site more worthy than Green Day, but… eh. I dunno.
The Eagles bite. No thanks.
And I went with the Rolling Stones as my write-in choice, only because my first choice of The Replacements doesn’t have a chance in hell (and wouldn’t be as much fun unless their were no edits and a Mature ESRB rating).
MUSE!!!!!
