Here We Go Again… Tom Petty: Rock Band?
Looks like we may have another artist that wants to throw his hat into the Rock Band ring. Tom Petty was interviewed by famous rock journalist Ben Fong-Torres for this coming Sunday’s Parade magazine (you know, the one in your local newspaper).
When asked if he would ever do Rock Band, he had this to say:
If we want this music to be accepted by coming generations, it might almost be a necessity. But I wouldn’t want to do a commercial. A lot of younger groups want to be on commercials, but I don’t.
Not sure if Harmonix will continue their latest trend of single artist titles after Green Day, but we’ve pointed out here multiple times that other artists (Queen, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, U2, The Who, Jimi Hendrix) have already expressed interest. Like the other artists above, he certainly has the catalog to get it done, and I for one would DEFINITELY buy this (one of the few artists I’ve seen multiple times live)!
If anything else, Tom Petty’s statement is further proof that the “genre isn’t dying,” as some critics have been trying to posit the last few months.

I’m of the opinion that I have enough of his stuff in the game already — but if there’s the demand for it more power to him I suppose?

If HMX is going to do another game based on a band then let it be a band that had a long and succesful career and really have a wide public like Iron Maiden. Why haven’t they goten a game yet?

When Guitar Hero 1 came out I told my friends that Runnin’ Down a Dream would be PERFECT for this. Years later we finally got it in Rock Band and I was happy, even though I always fail the end solo on expert. My point is, I’ve always wanted Tom Petty in this game. What I don’t want, is more band-specific games. I enjoy some Beatles tunes, and I enjoy some Green Day tunes, but no way am I ever buying these solo-games because I don’t like either of them enough to want that many songs. With Beatles you can’t export them, and I don’t want to sit down and play nothing but Beatles songs because I like variety. With Green Day you CAN export but then any time I do a random setlist it’s gonna be one of the Green Day songs I don’t like very much because I only like a few. Point is, DLC is the way to go. Let me buy just the songs I want so I’m assured a kickass experience every time I go to play.
Hell I wish Rock Band 3 was just an updated game engine they released on a disc for free and just let me imported the stuff I wanted from my current setup. You can bet Visions wouldn’t make the cut.
