NeoGAF Posts Leaks “Rock Band Blitz” Title

Could this be the title of the new game being announced later today on X-Play? If a forum post over on NeoGAF has anything to say about it, than it definitely looks like it. User milkybar1983 posted a long list of the Xbox Live Arcade Titles being released in 2012, and many people have noticed a title for a game called “Rock Band Blitz.” No official word on this yet, but this would corroborate rumblings we heard about the next game being a downloadable title. The good thing is that we don’t have long to wait for official confirmation.

Well, this Twitter account (created a few weeks ago) seems highly suspect… https://twitter.com/#!/RockBandBlitz

    Chenzo Reply:

    it does say:

‘Not the official twitter feed for Rock Band Blitz’

    Chris Reply:

    And?

    eyescovered Reply:

    seems legit. ;)

    Sans Reply:

However, it is odd that RBA is following this feed and we know he knows something.

    RockBandAide Reply:

It’s a relatively new account, and it’s no harm to follow another account, so not much to read into there.

  • Chenzo says:

Hrm… I don’t know. this totally crushes my hopes of RB4.

    RockBandAide Reply:

We knew it wasn’t going to be Rock Band 4 for awhile now: http://www.rockbandaide.com/15509/rock-band-dlc-to-continue-but-no-rock-band-4-this-year/

    Chenzo Reply:

    I could dream, couldn’t I?

    Croq360 Reply:

No! Your dreams will be crushed!! :) (just kidding)

  • SebastianSB says:

I’m hoping for a Frequency/Amplitude type game if they end up not sticking with peripherals for this.

    Mcmax3000 Reply:

I would be ok with something similar to Rock Band: Unplugged on XBLA (which was basically a Rock Band take on those games), especially if it allowed me to use all of the RB songs I’ve already purchased.

  • Mcmax3000 says:

The one thing that makes me suspicious of that list is that it lists the third Penny Arcade game as coming to XBLA, when it was announced yesterday by the developers on Joystiq that it will be coming to Xbox Live Indie Games instead.

    Mcmax3000 Reply:

Also, it lists the Saints Row XBLA game which as far as I know had been cancelled months ago (though they may have resurrected it).

  • Andreas says:

Seeing as we know that Rock Band Aide knows SOMETHING, I’m not sure how to digest this news.

  • Matt B says:

But 6:30pm is soooooo far away!

Interesting- its hard to make out what it could be past on the title alone.

  • eyescovered says:

Wait — wasn’t RB Blitz the Facebook match three game or something like that? I don’t have a Facebook acct so I cannot check, but I could swear I’ve seen this Blitz thing mentioned before.

    Mcmax3000 Reply:

That Facebook game was Rock Band Icons.

    eyescovered Reply:

    Ah, that was it. Thanks.

  • eyescovered says:

Hmmm, this is also suspicious. From yesterday’s PAX article:

“PAX East starts this Friday, and with it comes almost a full week of exciting things; a veritable Rock Band blitz of information descending upon us.”

    RockBandAide Reply:

    How serendipitous!

    eyescovered Reply:

    word a day calendar? ;)

    LoopyChew Reply:

    Rock Band: Serendipitous Blitz confirmed!

    Bishop Reply:

It wouldn’t be the first time they’ve used wordplay to foreshadow an event!

  • Meelz says:

Am I a bad person for being more excited about Sonic Adventure 2 being on that list

    BravoGangUS Reply:

No…not at all :D Sonic Adventure 2 was a GREAT game

    Gam30ver Reply:

My interest is kinda peeked for the walking dead game. Even though walking around a farm all game would be kinda lame.

    RedIon1992 Reply:

well, Walking Dead is being made by Telltale Games, who also did the recent Sam and Max games, along with Back to the Future and Jurassic Park, among others, So it’s likely to be point-and-click, as that’s their specialty.

    Mcmax3000 Reply:

From what I understand (I haven’t actually played it myself), the Jurassic Park game was less point & click and more Quick Time Event driven, like Heavy Rain, but apparently nowhere near as good.

  • Gam30ver says:

So pumped! Just spill the beans already for us guys that don’t get g4!

  • BravoGangUS says:

I hope it isn’t the game they plan to announce today.

And if it is, it BETTER be available on PS3 as well. =.=

    Gam30ver Reply:

i just hope the police will be patrolling bridges tonight because this isn’t going to be pretty for the wii community

  • JOHNNY says:

this will be a free downloadable game that will include the song “ballroom blitz” and nothing else. it will not support any other songs. just ballroom blitz. it’s a fun song for everybody

    Plainclothes Man Reply:

You read it wrong.. You forgot about BLITZkrig bop! So, only two songs.

    samjjones Reply:

Where you get to replay the multiple alternate endings from Wayne’s World?

    Works for me!

    expertwinSH Reply:

What about the entire Yeah Yeah Yeahs album “It’s Blitz”?

    joescorpion Reply:

And media blitz by the germs :)

    joescorpion Reply:

And blitzkrieg by blitzkrieg including metallicas cover hahaha

  • Jack says:

    How long to 6:30 pm??

    expertwinSH Reply:

    about 6:30.

    Croq360 Reply:

    Nice.

    Gam30ver Reply:

only have to wait til 5:30 here (central time zone)

  • Folkeye says:

    Rockband Blitzball? God no.

Though if that title is true, it’s not holding much promise yet. Sounds super casual IMO (more fire and forget, whee), which is what we have now….and not something that sat all that well for those looking for a longer term interst game.

Will see soon I guess. Can’t give up hopes on wanting to play a RB game again yet.

  • Kyle says:

I am thinking a PS Vita or another Mobile Rockband type game

    firedoom666 Reply:

on a list of XBox Live games?

    Folkeye Reply:

That would be crushing, but not out of the relm of possibility.

  • Lord Mhoram says:

What I would like to see is something completely unrelated to music, but tied to (and leveraging the sales of) Rock Band songs -

For example a SHMUP that the enemies are generated by the charts – Each color and instrument has a kind of enemy assigned to it (or perhaps color=enemy, instrument equals type of attack or something) and the frequency of said enemy is how often that type of note would be played.

So an 0 tier song on easy would be a cakewalk, but Visions would be the screen completely full of stuff.

Maybe not even play the song – just the chart data drives the gameplay.

    LoAlexandria Reply:

Played Rock of the Dead yet? xD

    Lord Mhoram Reply:

    Yep and beat it.

And the idea is just the opposite of what I was thinking.

  • dirtybeefz says:

holy crap jojo’s bizarre adventure HD that is AMAZING!! oh yea rockband blitz im sure that will be good too

  • Brandon says:

Awesome! A combination of Rock Band and NFL Blitz!

    Folkeye Reply:

I’m no fan of football (yeah I said it) but the thought of my RB drummer charging down a field trying to take down everybody in his path would be awesome.

    Brandon Reply:

And here I thought I was the only one alive that wasn’t a football fan

    Folkeye Reply:

    Same here, LOL.

  • Robert says:

Fire Pro Wrestling and Sonic Adventure 2 on that list as well…I’m excited.

    Mcmax3000 Reply:

I’m shocked to see Fire Pro Wrestling on that list… I thought for sure that game was dead (and given how poor it was when I played it at PAX East last year, I was ok with it being dead).

    Robert Reply:

    That’s a shame. Wish I still had my PS2.

    Mcmax3000 Reply:

I’ve just got my fingers crossed that if it does still exist, they’ve taken the year since I tried it out to completely rework it.

  • Jack says:

I’m going nuts thinking about what Rock Band Blitz could possibly be, and I remembered now of an old post at ScoreHero with an RPG-esque type of game. So I ran to ScoreHero to find it. IMO, this should be AWESOME and I hope Blitz is something like this, where you could use all your DLC and Exports:

    http://rockband.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=23909

    Jack Reply:

Just to clarify, this is not MY idea….but I really like it a lot.

    Twoflower Reply:

I’d LOVE an RPG-like system too… but given the LinkedIn profile for HMX looking for someone with experience with MTX and social networking and the title… well…

“Blitz” gives me the willies. Because I’ve tried Bejeweled Blitz and it is a blatant cash grab moneymaker.

Take a normal Bejeweled game, but you play against your friends, trying to get the highest score. But wait! You can BUY powerups with real cash that make up for your shortcomings. So really, the leaderboard represents whoever has the deepest wallet…

We already have enough score-chasing and enough social-networking. We need some new approach for interacting with the music. And an RPG is a much more interesting idea.

    Folkeye Reply:

Totally agree on this. Something more expansive than what we have now, with more player choice in how/when to do things would be a good start.

    samjjones Reply:

A while ago, HMX had a job posting looking for people who could write creative and adaptive storylines…which I gathered to be a “choose your own adventure” type of thing whereby you select some path within the game, and a different storyling develops. That sounded like RPG for sure. We’ll find out in 3 hours.

    Folkeye Reply:

Yeah, that ‘Narrative Designer’ position does have potential to fit into a game nicely.

When I first saw that position listed, my hopes were it being RB related. Somebody who can tell stories through character performance, multiple things for different game ‘levels’ multiple story lines, somebody familiar with archetype/folklore stories… that come together as a comprehensive whole in the end. Oh the hype that job can make me imagine in a RB type game. But we’ll see. Might be nothing.

    Brandon Reply:

That idea sounds amazing! Unfortunately I don’t think that is what is going to happen :(

  • RickC32 says:

Identical to RB3, except Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth from Overkill will be a playable character.

  • Gam30ver says:

Geese! Can this day go any slower?

    Sans Reply:

    Don’t tempt it.

  • Sans says:

Im still holding on to the dream that this will enable upgrades for the most if not all of the back cataloge.

    Jack Reply:

    Wow, that would be awesome!!

  • Rockox says:

I’d rather it be Rock Band Blotz, where you play all Ratt songs. :P

  • Glosoli says:

Rockband has been nothing but a huge disappointment since the announcement of the RB2 set list and then Greenday and pretty much every Friday since then. I’m not holding my breath that this game will be remotely interesting to me.

    RockBandAide Reply:

If you’ve been THAT disappointed, why are you still interested at all?

    Glosoli Reply:

That faint glimmer of hope that someday they announce Rockband: Radiohead

    afcchamp88 Reply:

But then it’s just going to be a disappointment that they don’t have your favorite obscure b-side, until they announce Rockband: Your Second Favorite Band.

    RandydG Reply:

How about Rock Band: TV Show Themes?..lol I can already hear the Cheers keyboard part..

  • Thedave says:

I’m preparing my soul to be crushed! I’m really hoping it won’t be but I’d rather have very low expectations and be surprised and thrilled than get my hopes up and be sadly disappointed.

  • Andreas says:

All I ask for is a new tour mode. That’s IT.

  • LCS says:

I was kinda hoping for RB: Rocks the 80s. This should be interesting.

  • Sam says:

I have one hope, it will be on Wii. If it is and the game is awful, I’d still be happy, not that HMX would release a bad game.

    Numskull Reply:

My advice? Think of another hope.

    LoAlexandria Reply:

or even better, think of getting a good console :)

    Numskull Reply:

Can you not tell somebody to have realistic expectations without resorting to flamebait?

    LoAlexandria Reply:

Well its either – get nintendo and have fun w/ friends and family, or get PS/XB for everything online. I just cant hear Wii’lers complaining about not getting shit …

    RockBandAide Reply:

So the solution to that is antagonize them? I was once told that if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything at all. It’s good advice.

    Folkeye Reply:

‘A New Hope’? Been done already. Try again. :D

    Numskull Reply:

Hey, George Lucas didn’t stop with it just because it was already done…

    Folkeye Reply:

    ….yeah, very very true.

    Shame on him.

    Croq360 Reply:

I really doubt this will come out on the Wii.

  • Brock says:

    >Clicked this cause I was excited for RB: Blitz
    >Left the post more excited about Sonic Adventure 2

  • Gam30ver says:

Just about time. Hopefully not a let down.

  • Andreas says:

So they had the screen blurred, but you could tell that tracks her changing exactly like they do in Frequency. Unless it was a pro keys chart.

    Andreas Reply:

    *were changing

    Julian G. Reply:

Hmm… if it is like Frequency, I hope that the tracks are exportable, that is if they’re unique to the game.

  • Folkeye says:

So if they revamp something very very very closer to a previous title…that’s not a ‘reinvention/vision/creative redirection’. So hopefully more will be shown.

  • D1Matman says:

Anything to report yet X-play viewers?

  • woahguy says:

Thats BS its not showing in Canada. My G4 channel is playing EP daily. I guess we dont get xplay at the same time as US. Thats so dumb. The next xplay is at 1am east on my G4 channel. The funny thing is i thought I never got this channel. I wonder how long ive had it and not known lol. What the heck is the announcement?!

  • Andreas says:

It’s basically Amplitude. Works with all DLC. Has new songs. But you can’t use instruments. REALLY bummed.

  • ninjasweetheart says:

    So Rock Band Unplugged 2.

    Disappointed :(
