Soundgarden, A7X, SoaD, Poison DLC Coming This Summer

@RockBand mentioned yesterday that we would be getting a nice little DLC announcement today, and here it is. Recently posted on RockBand.com and sent out from @RockBand, it appears that we will seeing DLC coming from the a number of heavily requested acts. A six pack of Soundgarden songs (most with Pro-Guitar upgrades) is on the way, along with a three pack of hair metal masters Poison. Also coming is one of Rock Band’s most requested bands Avenged Sevenfold, featuring one song from their latest album Nightmare, as well as a classic A7X track. Finally, we will be seeing two more songs from System of a Down, with one of those feature a Pro-Guitar upgrade.

    1) Talk Dirty To Me
    2) Nothin’ But A Good Time
    3) Every Rose Has Its Thorn

    Book ’em, Danno.

    • Rockox says:

Yep, that would definitely be the “no brainer” Poison pack. Personally I’d love it if “Fallen Angel” were included in this 3-pack.

    • RickC says:

Keep the first two, replace “Every Rose” with “Cry Tough”, and we are in business. But “Every Rose” will be in there without a doubt as it is almost certainly the Poison song that will sell best.

  • Chris says:

Glad I didn’t get my hopes up.

    • Toad3000 says:

Exactly. While there’s some mildly exciting stuff here, it’s really not a huge announcement.
I do wonder what’s going to happen with the Soundgarden tracks. Will they be 6 new tracks, or some combination of new tracks and the return of Black Hole Sun and Spoonman (in RB3 format, naturally, which means they’ll be $1.99, so please nobody get your hopes up about them being gifted to the faithful)
Also, it’s good (and hilarious) to see we’re getting a 3-pack of Poison.

      • Chris says:

Agreed. I’ll probably buy a few tracks, and I still like the periodic “heads up” we’ve been getting lately

      • Croq says:

Yeah, I’m curious about this too. I expect that BHS and Spoonman will be in the pack and will be exactly like you say. And because they were excluded from the exports into RB3, no need to put “(RB3 Version)” in the name! Well, I can hope anyway… 🙂

        • Whizzer says:

I hope the names aren’t polluted, indeed. And I really want those songs backk.

  • J-Dawg says:

Soundgarden and Poison are almost sure to be added to my RB library. I really hope Spoonman is one of them – greatest drum chart in RB2 in my ever-so-humble opinion, and I’d happily pay for it again. Also, I’d really like Unskinny Bop by Poison – the best guitar chart in the last GH game I thought.

    • gladiatory2k says:

I hope we can all embrace the beauty of the Spoonman drum chart.

      • QuestionMark says:

        Amen. What a chart.

        • PADDYO says:

Just about every Soundgarden song will have an interesting drum chart. Matt Cameron was a beast for them. Not like now, where he just keeps 4/4 time for Pearl Jam.

  • Rick says:

Would love to see Aerials be one of those SoaD songs

  • Cormac says:

More sevenfold!? YES!!! I’m guessing off nightmare So Far Away & classic Unholy Confessions

    • Brandon says:

Those are my predictions as well. Either so far away or welcome to the family.

      • Imdaboss says:

I’d rather have Welcome to the Family, and it seems a little more Rock Band-friendly. Without a doubt the other will be Unholy Confessions though.

    • Jason2087 says:

I’m personally hoping for “Little Piece of Heaven” because of the piano, and use of harmonies with the backing talkies, but the subject matter may be the only thing holding it back. The new song with absolutely be “Welcome to the Family”

  • Alex Sandy says:

Poison – Unskinny Bop, Talk Dirty to Me, Nothin’ But a Good Time or Every Rose has its Thorn

    SOAD – Psycho and Aerials

Soundgarden – Doesn’t matter, I like them all

    A7X – Challenging tracks please!

These would be perfect, but I’m not going to get my hopes up

  • javier says:

    its amazing 🙂

  • RickC says:

Bring back “Black Hole Sun” as a free track!

And more A7X is always cool. I find their guitar charts to be a lot of fun (I am suppressing the painful memories of the “Afterlife” guitar solo). I thought I did not like that band until I started playing RB. That was when I realized it is Sevendust that I do not like. Oops. Sorry about that, A7X!

Too bad I got my hopes up for a Beatles export. 🙁

  • Whizzer says:

Not familiar with Poison, but the rest sounds very promising. I’m assuming we will also see Pro upgrades for the Poison pack and at least one for Avenged Sevenfold, or a legacy upgrade.

  • Shawn McHorse says:

I’m pretty certain I’ll be picking up everything mentioned. It all sounds good.

  • skyzlmt says:

Meh, really no desire to buy anything that isn’t pro charted these days. I’ll get the 1 SOAD song and it doesn’t sound like A7X is getting procharted. If these are the headliners for summer DLC then I’m glad I didn’t get my hopes up. I think Ozzy was a bigger announcement than this…

    • Andre says:

I hope someday I’ll have my pro guitar and will be able to be this indifferent about the “color-charted” songs. 🙂

      • skyzlmt says:

HAHA yeah, I sound a little snooty. Protar blows plastic out of the water. I’ve had the plastic since GH2 and haven’t touched it since. Great learning tool.

        • Andre says:

Tell me about it. They don’t sell it here in Brazil, so I’m waiting for my next vacation trip to the US (probably next year) so I can buy mine. Been drooling over the Fender Squier since it was announced.

    • Walker says:

I thought I was the only one that was loyal only to pro charted songs. It hard for me to imagine picking up an entire pack because of it.

  • Samurai Judge says:

Hmm does that mean Soundgarden isn’t exclusive to guitar hero?
in that case this good news. perhaps theres a slim chance to get metallica, van halen, aerosmith etc. cant hold my breath on it though

    • RockBandAide says:

Considering they will be in Rock Band (again) shortly, I think you know the answer.

    • TSarcasm says:

Considering that – Guitar Hero is dead – and Soundgarden is back, this is good news indeed! I remember a rumor a while back, after GH:M, where someone said that Harmonix had like a dozen Metallica songs in waiting. I’m still holding my breath!

      • WhyAreWeDead! says:

Hey, check out TheHeroFeed. Guitar hero isn’t dead…It will be on the Wii U console. You could at least read before speaking out of yer ass.

        • RockBandAide says:

Guitar Hero is not not dead, but it is “on hiatus,” and is not currently in production. Regardless of its current state, Guitar Hero is a powerful brand name, and it will probably come back at some point, but NOTHING is set in stone with the Wii U yet.

          • Croq says:

Of course, many things that go “on hiatus” are never heard from again. That being said, I agree that GH may come back at some point in some fashion though.

        • TSarcasm says:

I didn’t realize that, and I’ll definitely check it out. Regardless, my info was based on previously released statements by Activision so using the term “dead” was my mistake. While I appreciate your input, your tone and delivery is unnecessary.

          • WhyAreWeDead! says:

Sorry, I’ll be more nice in the future. Just pointing out something you may have just rolled over and tossed out as valid.

  • Jason2087 says:

Black Hole Sun and Spoonman had BETTER be in the pack or I’m not buying. I have no problem buying them again, but it does beg the question why RB3 was programmed NOT to play BHS. Maybe they were exclusive but since GH is no more they can bring them back.

    • Jason2087 says:

Also it should be noted the phrasing of Soundgarden pack. Soundgarden RETURNS, meaning they were lost for an “unknown” reason (GH) but now licenses can mysteriously be required after GH is done.

      • skyzlmt says:

Prob the same (Hopefully) with Muse and other bands with GH licenses.

        • Jason2087 says:

Hopefully, even though There really hasn’t been any indication Muse is exclusive, I think HMX is holding out on Muse because they are tired of the Muse discussion and jokes so it’s just to annoy the fans, which I’m ok with haha. But it’s obvious SG were exclusives cause of the block on RB3 over BHS, and RHCP over Dani Cali.

      • Whizzer says:

Maybe, just maybe, a patch can reinstate those two songs. Many people will still have ‘Black Hole Sun’ exported on the hard disk and it’s possible, though unlikely, that ‘Spoonman’ is in the RB2 Export pack, but purposely ignored.

Are those RB1 Europe songs in a pack for US players? If so, that makes it possible, at the very least.

        • Walker says:

A patch for Soundgarden songs would be a huge finger to Wii owners. I hope you are completely wrong.

          • KEWB says:

A patch allowing Spoonman is HIGHLY unlikely as it’s almost certain that it was simply left out of the export. If they did a patch to remove the obstruction of BHS though then it wouldn’t affect wii owners anyway since RB1 didn’t export for them.

          • Whizzer says:

Still not Harmonix’ fault. They can get it back in Rock Band 4 then.

It’s not a finger to Wii fans, rather a warm gesture toward Xbox360 and PS3 fans. Aside from that, it shows Nintendo’s inadequacy.

    • andy says:

could have been exclusive for a short time frame (6 months from release) or soundgarden could have saw how much activision was paying them for the cd tie and and tried to get more than what harmonix was willing to pay for the song exports.

now that gh is no more (at least for the foreseeable future), these bands have less sway to be in a music game (cant say, well Activision is giving us THIS MUCH)

  • Kim says:

Whoa! finally some must have dlc for me.

  • cbarrentos says:

  • QuestionMark says:

Awesome news about Soundgarden. The single piece of Soundgarden DLC I have is so very lonely (I never picked up Jesus Christ Pose, though I should).

And I will happily repurchase Black Hole Sun and Spoon Man, should either be part of the pack. People can whine about getting ripped off and call me a sucker, but 1) I loved those tracks and 2) Having them as RB3 “complete” tracks with harmonies (I assume no keys?) is worth it to me.

Poison is meh, but I’ll probably get just to have a well-rounded library. Fingers crossed that one of the SoaD songs is “Aerials.” I have all the A7X I really care about, but do kind of enjoy “Welcome to the Family.”

    Soudgarden, though!

  • Croq says:

Happy about Poison and Soundgarden. Track selection will be the key to my interest in the others… 🙂

  • Imdaboss says:

Was hoping maybe they’d just make it a pack-
    Welcome to the Family
    Unholy Confessions
    A Little Piece of Heaven

  • Plutarch says:

The Soundgarden thing is a little annoying if the two songs are coming back, especically in the case of Black Hole Sun, where a copy of it does already exist on my Xbox, it’s just useless in RB3. Still, it’s better than not having them at all. The upside is that if those old songs are re-released, it seems near certain that they will have pro guitar/bass parts.

Even though this was not the EPIC groundbreaking announcement that people were expecting, I think it’s a pretty smart lineup for HMX. Hair metal, A7X and SoaD are all highly requested….though that hasn’t helped with Muse much, hahaha.

  • Konador says:

A Little Piece of Heaven please please please!!

  • LunaticSoul says:

Imho it’s going to be Unholy Confessions + Welcome to the Family..But hey, ALPoF would be awesome.

New SoaD..Mmh, they are party favourite and if they can give me something else to make my friends play (I’m so,so,so,so annoyed by Toxicity/CSuey/BYOB due to RB :|)..Soundgarden comeback is awesome news. A 6-pack is even more awesome. Wish we could just get back RHCP too..

  • Fuelie79 says:

    What I Want:
    “Save Me”
    “Second Heartbeat”

    What Will Probably Happen:
    “Welcome to the Family”
    “Unholy Confessions”

  • Mike says:

Considering RHCP have a new album coming out august 30th, we may see dlc from them over the summer. I would really like a full RHCP game though. Oh and the soundgarden pack is a definite buy for me

  • Your_moms_box says:

Couldn’t be happier about Soundgarden. As far as the rest- gimme a RB3 version of “Seize the Day”! Best faux G’N’R song ever.

  • loneranger says:

For A7X I’m hoping for So Far Away (because I could actually sing it without losing my voice for a week) and Remenissions (because it’s f-ing awesome).

  • folkeye says:

The only interest I might have is in seeing what Poison songs are coming out. Otherwise a pass from me, none are my cup of tea. See what the rest of the summer brings.

  • Epiks says:

In Wiki they have Cannibal Corpse (8 songs) !!!

  • Scott says:

SOAD? Totally Happy about. Aerials and something else are going to be fuuuuuuuuun. I’ll take Sugar.
Soundgarden, I hope BHS and Spoonman come back, those are my biggest concerns. Other than that, I hope we get Rusty Cage.
    Poison, can take or leave.

I really don’t care for A7X, but I really don’t hope it’s Welcome to the Family. It’s going to be not-fun on guitars, just because it’s so different than their other songs. Same for So Far Away. I’m going to take a unlikely choice, and guess “Dancing Dead” will be their other track.

  • Vampire-Jekyll says:

I just thought I’d point out that nobody seems to miss RHCP’s Give It Away.

    • KEWB says:

It’s not that we don’t miss it. It’s that we have no new news at all on the state of RHCP.

  • Dustinator says:

Very happy that Soundgarden is returning. As others have said, I’d gladly pay for “Black Hole Sun” and “Spoonman.”

Looking forward to the Poison tracks. SoaD and A7X are meh for me. We got enough already in RB

  • Milesrose says:

Soundgarden? EEEEE <3 As a singer I think I'll melt into a puddle of pure happiness everytime I sing. Or play drums. or bass. or guitar (it's inevitable with Soundgarden, really.)

    My predictions:

    Avenged Sevenfold:
    "Welcome To The Family"
    "A Little Piece Of Heaven"

    "Fell On Black Days"
    "Burden In My Hand"
    "Rusty Cage"
    "Head Down"

    System Of A Down:

  • zero.echelon says:

A7X tracks shold be I Wont see You Tonight (Part 1) & Welcome to the family 😛
I’d be happy if SoaD ones are Question! and Fuck the system, but the last one is pretty impossible xD
Happy about Soundgarden, Spoonman (RB3 Version) & Black Hole Sun (RB3 version) would be amazing

  • MarinCG says:

Ok, these are great bands and we can expect great songs BUT… are this announcement the “We’ll be teasing some BIG things and announcements at E3 2K11”?
I know Harmonix just announced DC2 but it’ll be a great let down for us, RB fans if only the Summer Pack is the BIG ANNOUNCEMENT.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not a troll at all, but I’m a regular buyer (and it means at least 3 times a month) and I was expecting some REALLY BIG like The Beatles Export or U2 / The Who packs.

    • samjjones says:

I think its reasonable to manage our expectations a little. “Ozzy”, “Gaga”…those are “big” packs nowadays. While I hold out the slimmest margin of hope for a Beatles pro/RB3 update (no new songs…just the ones they’ve already released) someday, I think the licensing/fees are simply too much, and everybody knows how hard/expensive it was to separate the Beatles tracks in the first place, so I think new stuff is completely off the table for the indefinite future. Of course, HMX has a history of pleasantly surprising me, though.

    • 291j says:

I’m disappointed for me, but everybody has different taste.

For everybody else though who was waiting on these bands they did announce, I’m pleased for their sake.
      I’m sure the week(s) I get something I want others won’t.

But I must admit I wondered if the joking around in Episode 42 of Official HMX Podcast (http://www.rockband.com/blog/episode042) at the 9 minute 47 second mark when they were talking about May/E3 DLC was actually going to have a grain of truth to it.

chris rigopulos: ..maybe the point you are trying to make if there is a certain band or song you really want to see in rock band, never say never.
john drake: that’s some interesting MUSEings hey chris?

chris rigopulos: Yeah, I’m trying to subtley hint at some things even though there is NO substance behind it.
chris rigopulos : I’m hinting at something really big!
eric pope: we just love baiting people with no real pay off.

It was quite obvious they were just kidding around but I really think that would be the ultimate prank to play on the RockBand following if they just mentioned -the band we dare not speak of- coming out as DLC as an aside at the end of their presentation for everything else. 🙂

To be honest though I thought the announcement was going to be a big but old 60s/70s band that had not made into Rock Band yet.

    • Conriocht13 says:

I will point out that, to some people, one or some of these announced bands ARE a big announcement; moreso to them than anything about The Beatles or U2. Everyone has different tastes.

That said, I do somewhat agree; when HMX teased a “big announcement” I was hoping for something more than just “these are some artists that are getting DLC over the next few months!” I was hoping for news on a new full band game, or word on a massive pack by a band making their RB/rhythm-based game debut. But if this IS their big announcement, it’s not a bad one, all are very good/popular/highly-requested artists.

  • AndeR53 says:

Hoping for Welcome to the Family and A Little Piece Of Heaven (A7x), Forest and ATWA (SoaD).
Also Black Hole Sun and Spoonman exports would be cool.

  • Pood LeFache says:

It wouldn’t surprise me to see Black Hole Sun and/or Spoonman in the Soundgarden pack, especially since Harmonix said they likely weren’t doing Pro Upgrades for disc exports.

Hoping that Black Hole Sun is in there… it’s a pretty iconic RB song. There was expressed disappointment among my weekly crew that it didn’t make it to RB3.

    • Conriocht13 says:

Actually, I believe HMX said that they were UNABLE to add pro-strings to on-disc songs because of technical limitations. I hope this is a hurdle they’re working on getting around, as I’d love to get pro-strings for songs like Everlong, Mountain Song, and Two Princes; all of which would be great to learn on real guitar/bass, but not really “worthy” of an RB3 version (though if that’s what it takes to get them, I’m more than willing to do that).

      • Croq says:

I could totally see that being the case. I know that the RB1 export was done as “save game” files, at least on the 360, so perhaps not the same as an “game add-on”. The others were big multi-GB files, so who really knows what may have been in there?

        • Conriocht13 says:

I think it may have to do with distribution; Pro-string upgrades don’t show up in the XBL or PSN stores, only through the RB store. And it doesn’t allow you to buy an upgrade for a song you haven’t purchased. Maybe there’s a problem with having the store recognize what non-DLC content you have on your HDD or something? I have no idea what the problem is exactly, but it would be awesome if HMX found a way around it. 🙂

          • Toad3000 says:

Have to add a slight modifier to what you said here – at least on PS3, you can buy a Pro Upgrade to a song that’s on your HDD, but that the currently signed-in PSN account did not purchase.

  • Doughoef says:

Sort of disappointing for me. I’m in for Soundgarden but definitely not picking up Avenged or System. I’m not a fan of Poison or hair metal so it will depend on song choice and how I feel at the time.

  • Tim the Enchanter says:

I would like Fiction since it would be fun to play on keys, although it might be a bit morbid to sing. I would want Eternal Rest as the old song (but anything from Waking the Fallen works for me since I think thats their best album).

As for those SOAD songs, I’d like anything from the first album and either Chic N’Stu or Bounce since they are silly.

    • Imdaboss says:

Fiction would be great, especially with harmonies, but then again there isn’t much guitar or bass, unless they charted bass to left hand on keys.

    • MarioDaPlatypus says:

      I LOVE CHIC N’STU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Whizzer says:

If any Avenged Sevenfold song would be morbid, it’s not ‘Fiction’ but ‘A Little Piece of Heaven’.

      • Tim the Enchanter says:

In my opinion, they are both morbid but in different ways. ‘A Little Piece of Heaven’ is a fun song with a morbid story. ‘Ficiton’ is a lot more darker with more real world implications. As said by A7x “The eeriest thing about it is there is a song on the album called “Fiction” (a nickname The Rev gave himself) which started out with the title “Death”. And it was the last song The Rev wrote for the album, and when he handed it in, he said, ‘That’s it, that’s the last song for this record’. And then, 3 days later, he died.”

A lot of people speculate that the song was a suicide note.

        • Whizzer says:

I know all about that song and in that sense, I still would not call it morbid. There’s nothing sick and twisted about it.

I can’t disagree that it did have the makings for a good suicide note, but I do have trouble actually believing that. Wouldn’t he at least want to record the album before going out?

Eerie? Sure. Morbid? Not at all, not by the definitions I know of the word.

Of course, to each one’s own.

  • Susan says:

Not a fan of Soundgarden or SOAD
But poison and avenged will be good.
Soundgarden vocals are NOT fun to me unlike the person (who posted above) said. (But yes the other instruments are)
And SOAD i can’t stand at all.

  • I have a feeling (that I hope is right…wow, I hope it’s right) that we will be seeing Welcome To The Family on Rock Band…man, I hope that’s right. I’m more interested in the Poison and SOAD Packs to be honest.
And I just want my Spoonman back. Shush.

  • Jinx says:

    My bets:

    SoaD – Hypnotize, Lonely Day*

A7X – Unholy Confessions, So Far Away

Poison – Talk Dirty To Me, Every Rose Has It’s Thorns, Unskinny Bop

    No idea on Soundgarden, though.

  • Toad3000 says:

Hmm, I’ll try to guess what’s coming too.
    Black Hole Sun (RB3 Version)
    Spoonman (RB3 Version)
    Fell On Black Days
    Burden In My Hand
    Rusty Cage

    Nothin’ But a Good Time
    Talk Dirty to Me
    Every Rose has its Thorn

A7X (Grasping at straws here, I don’t know anything of theirs beyond what’s already in-game):
Unholy Confessions, Welcome to the Family

  • BJ says:

I hope the one of the System songs is Sugar, or anything from their first (and best) album.

I hope Soundgarden pack includes Spoonman, Black Hole Sun, Rusty Cage, The Day I Tried to Live, Superunknown, and whatever else.
    I don’t like A7X or Poison.

  • Reaper says:

guarantee the SoaD song will be Aerials and Lonely Day, Sugar or Suite-Pee would be INSANSE though 🙂
