Rock Band Blitz Song Review: Part 1 (Barenaked Ladies, Foo Fighters, Queen, RHCP, Soundgarden)

Without further ado, here’s the first batch of reviews and playthroughs for the Rock Band Blitz pack. Included below are playthrough videos of the DLC from the always awesome thenewnoelisoncruz. Behind the Code: Songs Cut From Rock Band 3
The Cutting Room Floor is, as they say on their front page, a site dedicated to unearthing and researching unused and cut content from video games. From debug menus, to unused music, graphics, enemies, or levels, many games have content never meant to be seen by anybody but the developers — or even meant for everybody, but cut due to time/budget constraints.
Just recently they posted about Rock Band 3, where they unveiled some test songs, removed accomplishments, possible support for the Wii Speak and songs that were cut from the Rock Band 3 setlist. While the songs found are probably no longer indicative of future DLC, it’s still pretty interesting to see what else was planned for the Rock Band 3 setlist.
The songs were:
Burning Down The House *
Black Magic Woman *
Can’t Get Enough *
Cities In Dust *
Crying
Dammit – Real Guitar *
Don’t Stop Believin’ – Keys
Do You Feel Like We Do *
Feelin Alright
For What It’s Worth *
Hold On Loosely *
Let There Be Rock +
Love Is a Battlefield *
My Own Summer *
Proud Mary *
Rock And Roll All Nite (Big Rock Ending) *
Shining Stars – Keys
Somebody To Love *
So Whatcha Want? +
Spinning Wheel *
The Final Countdown – Keys
The Thrill is Gone *
The Weight
Through The Fire and Flames *
(Songs with an * mean they were later released as DLC and songs with a + mean they were released as RB2 DLC before the game came out)
Now, as was mentioned before, this list shouldn’t serve as an indication about what’s coming up in the DLC pipeline although it is interesting to see that they had planned to have RB3 versions of songs on disk. What do you think about the songs here, do you prefer the setlist with these songs on it or do you think that it was fine on it’s own? Sound off in the comments!
Thursday Throwback: “I Want It All” by Queen

In celebration of the latest pack of Queen DLC released this week, I decided to feature another one of their songs (the first was Tie your Mother Down). The track was originally released in the first Queen Pack, and then re-released as a RB3 version a year later. The song I’ve picked is I Want It All.
With 18 number 1 albums, and just as many chart topping singles, they are one of the most successful bands ever with estimated album sales topping 300 million! In Rock Band, they now have 27 unique songs (35 different songs if you count the RB3 versions separately), and if you remember, there were even rumors at one time that a dedicated Queen: Rock Band game was in the works.
So what’s the song like to play? Well the 5-tier guitar starts off with a solo, which may throw some of you off. During the song you switch a lot between rhythm and lead guitar, to mix things up a bit. 4-tier drums is quite easy for the majority of the song, but has a few drum rolls included, as well. While not playing a lead role like in other Queen songs, the 6-tier keys has relatively simple charts for much of the song. 3-tier bass is unsurprisingly the weakest chart, but as with Queen, its never repetitive or boring. Finally, 4-tier vocals isn’t the hardest Queen song to sing, but like most of their songs, it is fun to play.
Now you may be thinking to yourself “Those tiers are way off, this song is easy!” Well wait until about 2:10 in, and you the difficulty for most of the instruments ramps up significantly, particularly with guitar and drums, and keys is absolutely crazy. A lot of people will fall over with this 30-second part of the song, which is one of the reasons why I like it.
Here’s the full band playthrough:
