Is the Pearl Jam Live Project Coming as DLC?

For those who may not have originally heard, or need a refresher, Rock Band officially announced back in 2009 that they were teaming up with Rhapsody to let Pearl Jam fans choose the best versions of their songs to be featured in a forthcoming Rock Band project. However, the announcement came during the height of the rhythm gaming trend, and the genre has cooled off significantly since then.
Since that time, the question has been asked to Harmonix several times about whether this was still going to happen or not. While I had just recently told someone on Formspring that chances were good that it was no longer happening, it appears that I may have spoken too soon.
Over at RockBand.com, several people have discovered a number of links to RockBand.com for placeholders for live versions of Pearl Jam songs via the “url guessing game,” where people take advantage of RockBand.com’s naming conventions to guess imminent DLC releases, typically with remarkably reliable results. So far, the following live Pearl Jam songs have been found.
- Animal (Live)
- Better Man (Live)
- Black (Live)
- Brain of J. (Live)
- Breakerfall (Live)
- Comatose (Live)
- Crazy Mary (Live)
- Daughter (Live)
- Do the Evolution (Live)
- Even Flow (Live)
- The Fixer (Live)
- Got Some (Live)
- Green Disease (Live)
- Hail, Hail (Live)
- I Am Mine (Live)
- In My Tree (Live)
- Life Wasted (Live)
- Love Boat Captain (Live)
- Low Light (Live)
- Marker in the Sand (Live)
- Porch (Live)
- Red Mosquito (Live)

UPDATE: The URL’s linked to above all 404 out now that the cat is out of the bag. To those who didn’t check out the links in time, this is one example of what the pages looked like (Thanks Andrew!):

NOTE: The playlist contains the studio versions of the songs, as there is no telling which live version may be included as rumored DLC.
Rock Band 3: 33 Songs Harmonix Forgot… For Now

Rock Band 3 has been released for just over 3 days now and it’s difficult to be a Rock Band fan and not be totally hyped. It was a long road. Almost like Rock Band 1 all over again. From the day we saw that tease in Green Day: Rock Band it’s been a feverish journey filled with speculation, info mining, rumor busting (or sparking), and YouTube video drooling. In classic Rock Band community form there’s been an extremely vocal response to every tiny tidbit of info we’ve received and while skimming through the comments and stories here on RockBandAide, I was struck by something that was said in the recent Billy Joel story…
Looks like one of the first artists lusted after shortly after the reality of a keyboard in Rock Band 3 was announced may soon be coming to Rock Band as DLC.
That kind of got me thinking “What about all those songs that Harmonix forgot?” Sure there’s DLC to look forward to but I can recall a lot of songs that I thought after reading the USA Today article officially showing off Rock Band 3 were just sure things. Certainly we all expected a Dream Theater song, or a Beastie Boys song, I myself thought for sure Beck’s “Where It’s At“ was going to pop up, but to no avail.
So with no further ado, to put the cherry on top of your hype sundae, here’s 33 songs Harmonix forgot…
Pearl Jam DLC has Harmonies in Rock Band 3
It appears that a number of Rock Band 3 bundles were accidentally shipped early, and as such, a number of new details are coming to light. We saw details come out last night about the Rock Band 3 character creator, and now it looks like there may be a few surprises in store for us with regards to DLC. It appears that when viewing the Pearl Jam DLC in Rock Band 3 (pic above), it shows Pro Mode for both drums and vocals (in this case, two-part harmonies). A number of people told me that the entire “Ten” album, as well as the song “Brothers” released as DLC, has two-part harmonies. (UPDATE: @Striderblack let me know that people have witnessed that the “Backspacer” album also had harmonies.)
As many of you know, a Pearl Jam: Rock Band project was announced quite a while ago, but there haven’t been many details about it since. However, @HeyRiles did let me know not too long ago, the original Pearl Jam: Rock Band listing on an overseas retailer was revised to show a 2011 release date. Granted, some of the pieces don’t fit together, either. The Pearl Jam project teased was supposed to be a project based on live material, yet the DLC here was the studio version. But of the pieces we do have, could these suggest that a Pearl Jam: Rock Band project is still a thing?

Revisiting the Original ‘Pearl Jam Live’ Rumor
If you haven’t heard, but in the last 24 hours, there have been two rumors pop up on foreign retail sites about a new Rock Band title focusing around Pearl Jam coming out in September. While this had been announced as a thing quite a long time ago, I thought a refresher might be in order, along with a bank of songs that may be featured in the game.
While Harmonix never made an official announcement about the title, they did promote the project about a year ago. In fact, Pearl Jam’s official site solicited fans to vote for live tracks that they would like to be featured in the game.
The bank of 43 songs from which Pearl Jam allowed fans to choose from are included after the break, along with a nice long playlist of all the tracks for you to listen to today. Read the rest of this entry »
Release Date for Rock Band: Pearl Jam Live (Rumor)
OK, I think I may be eating my words here….
Destructoid received word from MTV Games yesterday about the rumored Pearl Jam: Rock Band game. This is what they said:
“We haven’t announced any products beyond Green Day: Rock Band and Rock Band 3. We have a great relationship with Pearl Jam and hope to have more of their awesome music in the game in the future.”
Well, now comes this little bit of information. RockBand.com superstar @HeyRiles just sent me this (via RedDragon1991)… Apparently the rumor yesterday about a Pearl Jam: Rock Band game coming out this year is looking more and more accurate.
Swiss retail website wog.ch (I’m not familiar with it, either) posted a description titled “Rock Band: Pearl Jam Live,” with a release date of September 16th, 2010. It’s one thing to have a rumor from one source, but to have it corroborated by another source in such a short time frame makes me believe that this is probably happening now! Assuming the release date is a fairly accurate, I’m assuming there may be some discussion of it at E3.
UPDATE: The website also lists in the description 1-6 players, meaning it probably has harmonies similar to the newer titles, as well as lists it as “(Game Only).” Could we possibly be seeing some sort of bundle with this game, unlike Green Day and LEGO?
[Big thanks to @HeyRiles!]
Is Pearl Jam: Rock Band Closer Than We Think?
I know there have been rumors of a Pearl Jam project for some time, but I don’t think this is for real, as cool as it would be. The box art is decent, but it smacks of a quick photoshop job. It combines common graphical elements from Pearl Jam and Rock Band (their website background), and unlike previous band-centric games, does not feature the band’s actual likeness on the cover.
Shoddy box art aside, I would find it hard to believe that a Swedish gaming store would have the box art for a game that has yet to be officially announced by Harmonix.
If you want to check out the site where it came from, have a gander at WebHallen.com, or the image captured below.
