Wii Giveaway – Metal Track Pack

With the slew of Foo Fighters giveaways taking place on Twitter from @RockBand and a number of the Harmonix crew for the Xbox 360, I thought I might try to spread the wealth a little bit and offer a giveaway for the Wii players.
Similar to the Track Pack Volume 1 giveaway, we’re going to use the same rules as before. HUGE thanks to @HMXThrasher for hooking us up with a few Rock Band track packs for the Nintendo Wii while I was out at PAX East!
If you’re interested in picking up a copy of prize shown above, follow the rules to enter below and you’ll be entered to win a copy of the Rock Band “Metal Track Pack″ for the Nintendo Wii.
- To enter, simply post your favorite Rock Band metal song in the comments, but read on…
- ONE entry per household. Each comment is one entry, so please don’t respond to other people’s comments, because when I do a data dump from the comments, it looks like you’ve tried to enter twice, and your entries become invalid. Also, if for some reason you’re not sure your comment “went through,” instead of entering it again to make sure, wait a few minutes and refresh the comments to check.
- I will shop worldwide for this contest, so feel free to enter from where ever you are, provided you play on the Wii.
- I will select one winner randomly from the entries tomorrow (5/12) after 12:00 pm CENTRAL time.

Good luck!

- I Mother Earth – “Levitate”

ESRB Confirms Rock Band Metal Track Pack

Rumored earlier this year, it appears that thanks to the Entertainment Software Rating Board, sometime in the near future we will have a new track pack for Rock Band featuring all metal songs! Here’s what the ESRB statement says:
This is a music and rhythm simulation game in which players can perform songs along with on-screen avatars. Players simulate playing guitar, bass, or drums and are scored based on the accuracy of notes hit. Some song lyrics contain expletives (e.g., “b*tch” and “hell”) as well as allusions to violence (e.g., “Forced into submission…A strip of tape that kills the screams…Surgical steel twist the flesh”). Some songs also mention alcohol products or indirectly reference drugs (e.g., “Beers and barracuda, reds and monocaine” and “Doped up soul-Senses numb”).
Based on some the lyrical clues above and the lyrics search engine lyricrat.com, you can figure out at least two of the songs on the Track Pack: Haunted – “DOA” (…A strip of tape that kills the screams…) and Blue Oyster Cult – “Transmaniacon MC” (…Beers and barracuda…). Also, if you look at Harmonix’s RBN “Offensive Content Guidelines” page, you can clearly see a reference to Nazareth’s “Hair of the Dog.” These also appear to be corroborated by the rumored achievements listed here. With all this info, these are just some of the songs expected to be on disc:
- Motorhead “Killed by Death”*
- Hawkwind “Master of the Universe”*
- Blue Oyster Cult “Transmaniacon MC”*
- Nazareth “Hair of the Dog”*
- Yngwie Malmsteen “Red Devil”
- Judas Priest “Screaming for Vengeance”
- Lacuna Coil “Closer”
- In This Moment “Forever”
- Queens of the Stone Age “3′s and 7′s”
- Evile “Thrasher”
- The Haunted “D.O.A.”
- At the Gates “Blinded by Fear”
- Lamb of God “Laid to Rest”
* – Denotes songs not currently released as DLC
According to the ESRB statement, the track pack will be released for the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, PS3, and PS2. No release date has yet been announced.
New Songs on RB: Metal Track Pack?

According to some sleuthing on the Rock Band message boards, it looks like someone has been able to find some references to new songs not currently listed as DLC via the Xbox 360 achievements on the Rock Band Metal Pack disc. A French site appears to be listing all the achievements for the still unreleased game. Chalk it up as a rumor for now until it is confirmed, but I can’t wait to get my hands on this one! The (potential) new tracks are listed below, but check out the links above to see the rumored rest of the songs from the game, as well as the possible achievements:
- Motorhead – Killed by Death
- Hawkwind – Master of the Universe
- Blue Oyster Cult – Transmaniacon MC
- Nazareth – Hair of the Dog
