Lego Rock Band TV Spot
Haven’t seen this on TV yet, but from what I’ve heard, it just started airing. Check it out!
Play Rock Band, Win DLC at Old Navy
Old Navy is the place to be next week for all your Rock Band needs! The FREE Lego Rock Band deal was confirmed this morning on their promotional website: Gobblepalooza.com (oh, I get it…). I’ve included the official details below on helping you score a free copy, too.
But in addition to the Lego Rock Band deal, it also appears that select stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day. And these stores will have Rock Band setup for you and your family to come down and play! That could be pretty fun… if you have a cool family, that is. Not enough incentive to get you down there? OK. Old Navy will also be handing out scratch-off game pieces with one grand prize (per store) of a $200 Old Navy gift card, but two out of every seven pieces will have codes for FREE DLC!
I also found this as an interesting note in the official rules for the free DLC promotion: “Chance of winning does not increase with skill at Rock Band.“ Dammit!
Official FREE Lego Rock Band details:
Prior to store opening on Friday, November 27th in the US (Saturday, November 28 in Canada excluding Quebec), customers will form a line outside the store, and a store associate(s) will pass out one wristband per person aged 16 or older, starting with the front of the line while supplies last. There are an extremely limited amount of available wristbands per store which will be distributed on a first come first served basis and Old Navy can not quarantee that all customes in line will receive a wristband. Wristbands correspond to console platforms (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii), so customers must choose their preferred console from the available wristbands. Old Navy cannot guarantee that your preferred console platform will be available. Subject to availability, wristbands are good for one Lego Rock Band video game in the platform listed on the wristband (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii) with a qualifying purchase of $20 or more, and must be surrendered after purchase. Limit on Lego Rock Band game per person, family or household. Qualifying purchases exclude Gift Cards and applicable taxes. Store hours may vary by location. Check your local store for details. No rainchecks.
Build Your Own Lego: Rock Band Bus
Of course you like Lego: Rock Band… It’s awesome! Now for all you die-hard Lego enthusiasts, the Lego Club was cool enough to pull together instructions on how to make your very own Lego: Rock Band bus. It includes the full Lego-style visual instructions, as well as a list of pieces that you need… and it’s a lot! It’s a shame they’re not selling a kit that includes all the pieces, because I know that even if I still had all my Legos, I’d be missing that one final piece!
If you have the pieces, and the time, send me pictures of your completed bus! I’ll highlight them on the site here. The link to the PDF instructions are below. Good luck!
Rock Band Song Ratings Explained
Since there seems to be much confusion about what songs are able to be played in Lego: Rock Band, I’ve decided to pull together a post explaining how the ratings for each song within Rock Band have been determined.
We all are aware that Harmonix came out with Rock Band in 2007, and with it the ability to download additional songs each week. The original game had an ESRB rating of T for Teen for the game. Lyrics with offensive language were censored, as the T for Teen rating roughly meant PG-13, so language not suitable for this age group was removed. Rock Band 2 came out a year later and also featured the T for Teen rating. Downloadable content (DLC) continued along the same lines as it had always been.
Once Lego: Rock Band was announced, it was clear that the game was intended for a slightly different audience, mainly younger children and families, based on both the Lego theme of the game and the easier gameplay options. This game now featured an E for Everyone (10+) ESRB rating, appropriate based on the target audience. With the exception of the Beatles: Rock Band, Harmonix’s business plan for the Rock Band franchise has always been to include interoperability of all Rock Band games, specifically the ability to export songs from one disc to be played in another. However there was a new problem with marketing to a different audience. Harmonix noted that even though DLC songs had censored some of the language for the songs, the subject matter of the songs may not be appropriate for younger children. They decided that instead of completely restricting all previous DLC to be played in Lego: Rock Band, they would go through each song released for the franchise and determine its individual rating based on the content and nature of the song.
So this is where we are at now. We have two different ratings.
![]()
The first rating, “Family Friendly,” means that the song’s “content may be suitable for players of all ages. These tracks may contain the infrequent use of mild language.”
![]()
The second rating, “Supervision Recommended,” means these “tracks may contain suggestive lyrics and the infrequent use of strong language.”
You can find Harmonix’s page dedicated to the new songs’ ratings here, a full list of all songs appearing in Rock Band (including each song’s rating) here, and the ESRB’s ratings guide here.
Free Lego: Rock Band with $20 at Old Navy on Black Friday?!

I’m still skeptical about this one, but I have a feeling this may be true, because some places really have some killer deals on Black Friday. Of course, I could also see it being a truncated version of the game, like an extended demo. And apparently according to Joystiq, Old Navy will also be selling Rock Band 2 bundles, with a possible extra guitar, for $99! If you are still rocking the older Rock Band 1 instruments, this is a perfect time to upgrade.
If this is all true, for $99, you could get Rock Band 2, TWO Rock Band 2 guitars (wireless), one Rock Band 2 drumset (wireless), one mic, and Lego: Rock Band. Just wanted to make that clear! As soon as I hear more details about this, I’ll let you know!
UPDATE: Forgot to include this: You can reach your $20 requirement also by picking up some Rock Band t-shirts for yourself or your lil’ ones at Old Navy here. Pics below of just a few of the options they have (and they have a good variety).
