Below is the review and playthrough of the final Rock Band song.

Don McLean – American Pie

Guitar is like most of the other mostly acoustic parts we’ve gotten in this game. Moderately paced chords with the occasional HOPO thrown in for the electric parts. That said, they’re great songs to chill back and relax with, while still maintaining challenge. I really enjoyed playing this part.

Bass was surprisingly more intricate than I thought it’d be. Its pattern is surprisingly fun, going across the fretboard constantly with the occasional HOPO thrown in. There’s only one part of it that could screw up an FC though. Around the midway point, out of nowhere comes this section of fast alternation between the blue and orange frets. Outside of that, this bass part is a fun, yet simple one.

Drums aren’t all that difficult. It’s mostly a standard rock beat, but it’s got quite a few intricacies and fills thrown in. That said, any semi-competent drummer should be able to get through this one with out many issues. Still though, it’s not terrible to play, and if you’re looking for a beat that’s fun but not hard, then this is the song for you!

Keys, specifically pro keys, are ridiculously difficult. Unlike Weird Science a couple weeks ago, this song legitimately deserves it’s devil tier. The part is really fun to play though. Comprised almost entirely of 3/4 note chords, with single notes thrown in, it’s a fast paced part that will keep you on your toes throughout! If you’re looking for a challenge, look no further!

Vocals are difficult, mainly because there are very few places where you can stop and take a breath. The overall difficulty of the song, like always, depends on how well you know the song. I will say this, though, the vocals go really low at parts, and they also go fairly high. If you’ve got a good range, you should do fine on this song. The harmonies aren’t to present, only coming in to triple up the chorus.

In Blitz, this song plays fairly well. When the song picks up, it’s super active on all the instruments, and even when it’s slower, it’s not so slow that it becomes dull. Overall, it’s pretty fun to play, and if you’re a Blitz player, you should add this to your collection. The best super instrument is super guitar.

Instead of my usual ending recommendations, I’m just going to say this. Thank you Harmonix for the 281 weeks of good times and memories. This may be the last piece of weekly DLC, but this definitely isn’t the end of all the great times Rock Band has given us. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us and remember that no mater what, you guys will always be the most awesome game studio ever!
