RB3 Keyboard Bundle No Longer a Thing for US PS3 Players
I didn’t know Dawson was a Rock Band fan…
I hadn’t heard about this issue until the announcement from @HMXHenry over on the forums, but looks like US PS3 Rock Band fans will no longer be offered a Rock Band 3 Keyboard Bundle? Say wha?! Apparently, pre-ordering options began disappearing from online retailers earlier this week, and due to a very odd agreement terms with MadCatz and MTV Games, the Rock Band 3 Keyboard Bundle no longer is an option for US PS3 players.
Here’s what @HMXHenry had to say to officially address what is going on:
You may have seen that retailers have taken down the Rock Band 3 keyboard/software bundle pre-orders for PlayStation 3. Unfortunately, this SKU will not be available in the U.S. due to the agreement terms for the region. However, Mad Catz and MTV Games are working with those retailers that accepted pre-orders to enable them, if they choose, to honor those pre-orders placed prior to this change as soft bundles (separate discs and keyboards), at pre-order pricing. These retailers will have more details shortly.
He did, however note the following…
- Moving forward, the keyboard and Rock Band 3 software will continue to be available as stand-alone products for PlayStation 3 in the US.
- This does not affect European customers as the Rock Band 3 keyboard/software PS3 bundles will still be available in Europe.
- The Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii keyboard/software bundles are still available for pre-order.
Well that bites Sound off in the comments!

Album Purchases to Contain Rock Band DLC? (Muse, Specifically?)
Well, if MTV Games Senior VP Paul DeGooyer had his way, some album purchases in the future would be bundled with Rock Band DLC. Similar to how Pearl Jam’s “Backspacer” special edition album sold exclusively at Target last year, music artists could option to have a normal album, as well as a premium bundle that would contain the album’s tracks capable of being played in Rock Band.
“We would love to see a world where in your premium bundle for the next Muse album, you’re able to also receive that album on your console of choice, and be able to play it,” he said, speaking at MIDEM’s Images & Brands summit this morning.
Oh, and not sure if you caught that or not, but he name dropped Muse. That ought to be make some people in the community especially happy. (In other words, don’t be surprised if there’s some Muse coming to Rock Band soon!)

Rock Band 2 Special Edition Bundle $99

I love this. If the Old Navy bundle deals turn out to be just rumors, then there’s always this deal. Most of you reading this blog probably already have Rock Band, but may not have the Rock Band 2 instruments. If you’re looking to replace some older instruments, put this on your Christmas list! Starting now and through the rest of this year, select retailers (see below) will be selling the Rock Band 2 Special Edition bundle for the Xbox 360 and PS3 for only $99. This includes the Rock Band 2 guitar (wireless), drums (wireless), microphone, and game. And if you are looking for a good gift for a good friend… pick this up for them! That way you don’t have to bring your instruments over to their place any more!

You’ve got Beatles in my Pepsi! When I logged into my Pepsi Rock Band account today to bank a few points, I noticed a new weekly prize, apparently coming September 1st. It appears that full limited edition bundles of The Beatles: Rock Band will be given away as prizes starting on September 1st. I’ve already got mine pre-ordered, but if you’ve opted to get the game only, here’s your chance to start drink some Pepsi and try and get yourself a full bundle! Good luck!
UPDATE:
As HarmonixSean pointed out, the prizes page lists more details… specifically that Pepsi is giving away 200 bundles a week (albeit only for 2 weeks before the promotion ends). That’s a LOT of bundles… start saving up your codes now!!!
