PS3 RBN DLC for 10/11 (2x Bass Pedal Surprise!)

Rock Band teased a special RBN announcement for the PS3 this week, and they recently announced that “2X Bass Pedal” versions of songs will be featured next week on PS3 RBN DLC.

For those that might not be aware, on songs with heavy bass pedal usage, Harmonix has typically “thinned out” the pedal, so that you are not playing every bass note, even on Expert. Because the community has been clamoring for it, Harmonix will be migrating “2X Bass Pedal” versions of songs over to the PS3 just for next week. For more details and a FAQ, see the link to the official announcement at the bottom of this post.

Unless otherwise noted, all songs are $1.99.

* Denotes $.99 track.

ROCK BAND NETWORK 10/11 PS3 PLAYLIST

[Official announcement]

Best of RBN – August

Last week, we posted a list of all the songs that were released via the Rock Band Network in the month of August for the Xbox 360, had the community vote on their favorites, and ask for people to send along comments to us on why they choose the songs they selected. With over 700 votes from nearly 400 different people, we figured out the Top 10, as selected by you, with comments from some of those who voted.

10 – Thomas Walker – Flight of the Bumblebee (Rimsky-Korsakov – Piano Version) (with 17 votes)

I have enjoyed Rock Band beaching out into many different areas, such as country, metal, hip hop, pop, and now classical music. The game isn’t just one genre anymore and “Flight of the Bumblebee” was a prime example of this. Excellent song charted well- it stood out as the most unique. – Brady

8 (Tie) – Emery – Scissors (with 18 votes)

8 (Tie) - Amberian Dawn – War in Heaven (with 18 votes)

A quite peculiar track from Amberian Dawn, which unlike most of their other songs aren’t too challenging. It’s a very dynamic and great tune, and certainly feels awesome to play without being too hard… Unless, of course, you play keys, in which case the solo is going to screw you big time. - Atupo-Maruru

7 – Heywood Banks – Toast (Live) (with 25 votes)

It’s been a favorite song of mine for years, first hearing it on the Bob & Tom Show. With the toaster percussion and the laughing charted for harmonies, it’s unique and lot of fun to play. – Robby Suavé

6 – Pierce the Veil – Caraphernelia (with 33 votes)

5 – Devin Townsend – Hyperdrive (with 36 votes)

Definitely the mellowest and least “wacky” of all the tracks on Ziltoid, Devin Townsend’s “Hyperdrive” features some beautiful clean harmonies, fairly simple parts on all instruments, and a nice mellow atmosphere to jam along to. If you’re expecting crazy solos like in “Ziltoidia Attaxx!” or the insane drums of “By Your Command” look elsewhere, but if you’re looking for a beautiful song to relax with, pick it up. – Kaboobi

4 – Cynic – The Space for This (with 44 votes)

“The Space For This” is an absolute blast on all instruments. The drums are constantly changing, switching from one unique pattern to another, and it even has a drum solo. The strumming on guitar and bass is surprisingly fun, and the guitar solo is one of my favorites to play as well as listen to. For a metal song, there isn’t much screamed vocals, and the harmonies are great, though they may be overlooked at first listen. It’s just a great metal song to play, without any overly difficult sections. – DragoonXD

3 – Paul and Storm – Nugget Man (with 59 votes)

Like all Paul and Storm songs, the lyrics are pretty hilarious throughout (telling the story of the eponymous man who invented chicken nuggets) and are a real blast to sing – especially with three of you on harmonies. Where it really shines though, is that last minute of the song, blindsiding you with a fast, jazzy, gospel-inspired outro that is hella fun on every single instrument, from the walking bassline and awesome drum solo to the ending guitar wankery and those powerhouse vocals. That one minute is so amazingly fun to play, no matter what your instrument of choice is, and it’s unlike any song I’ve ever seen in Rock Band – and offering that level of unique, unmatched charting and songs is exactly what the Rock Band Network does best. – Edd

2 – Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives – Soy Bomb (with 110 votes)

I voted for Soy Bomb not just for the nostalgic treat of it’s inclusion in Guitar Hero 2, but because I had waited patiently for this band to release its material through the RBN. Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives was one of the few bands I truly discovered courtesy of Guitar Hero and Rock Band and have enjoyed them ever since I played “Hey” in the original Guitar Hero. (A song that will be releasing this week!). Soy Bomb has an easy but fun guitar chart. Surf Rock is something that is greatly unrepresented in Rock Band and I would personally like to see more of. I would even reckon that the bass is the funnest instrument to play on this song and that’s not something you can say about most Rock Band songs. – Dogmatic

1 – Freezepop – Doppelgänger (with 120 votes)

Freezepop always provides fun quirky lyrics that provides fun for the whole band. It’s not the most common thing to find a song that both a singer and a drumming can enjoy that isn’t Heavy Rock or Metal. – Kolma

Here is a playthrough of August’s “Best of RBN” winner Doppelgänger (from thenewnoelisoncruz):

Thanks to the artists for the songs, the authors for their work in getting these into Rock Band, the voters on this poll, and those who provided comments!
