Rock Band March Madness: Round 1 Recap

rock-band-logo-480x100

Now that the first round of Rock Band March Madness has ended, today seems like a good day to take a break from the voting and give a recap and some stats on the round!

Before we get to those, however, let’s look at today’s results:

Day 5 featured A LOT of absolute blowouts. In fact, today probably could have been called within 5 minutes. Most of the losers recieved less than 100 votes That said, we DID see a pretty major upset as Bon Jovi lost to The Mother Hips! The only other moderately close match was Nine Inch Nails vs. The Strokes.

The Mother Hips’ Time We Had def. Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead or Alive (385-360)
Nine Inch Nails’ The Hand That Feeds def. The Strokes’ Reptillia (411-236)
The Who’s Won’t Get Fooled Again def. David Bowie’s Suffragette City (554-86)
The Clash’s Should I Stay or Should I Go def. Crooked X’s Nightmare (561-80)
Blue Öyster Cult’s (Don’t Fear) The Reaper def. Tribe’s Outside (586-57)
Weezer’s Say It Ain’t So def. Death of the Cool’s Can’t Let Go (581-55)

And now, let’s look at the stats!

  • Biggest win (number of votes): Weezer – Say It Ain’t So (91.35% of the votes)
  • Biggest win (%): Blue Öyster Cult – (Don’t Fear) The Reaper (529 more votes)
  • Most votes for a winner: Deep Purple – Highway Star, 633 votes
  • Most votes for a loser: Sweet – The Ballroom Blitz, 387 votes
  • Least votes for a winner: Stone Temple Pilots – Vasoline, 221 votes
  • Least votes for a loser: VAIGANT – Seven, 54 votes
  • Most voted on match: Black Hole Sun vs. Gimme Shelter, 798 votes
  • Least voted on match: Vasoline vs. Mississippi Queen 345 votes

Now, we said that there wouldn’t be any voting, but we sort of lied about that. We want to know what you think the biggest upset so far is!

Rock Band March Madness: Day 5

RBMM5

Welcome to a new (hopefully) annual feature on RockBandAide that we call Rock Band March Madness (because, hey, everyone else seems to be doing it and we wanted in on the fun)!

The premise is simple: All 58 songs from the setlist of the original Rock Band were thrown in to a tournament bracket generator and randomly seeded. They were placed in match-ups pitting one song against another, where you will have 24 hours to vote on the best song. The winner of each match-up goes to the next round where they’ll be pitted against another winner (or in the case of six songs, a song that got a bye to the second round because of the way the seeding worked), and this will continue until one song is crowned the winner of the inaugural Rock Band March Madness!

Before getting to today’s matches, let’s look at the winners of yesterday:

There weren’t too many close matches today, except for one, which saw our first case of a bonus song beating a main setlist song! We also saw the biggest landslide yet when Metallica took on VAIGANT.

The Smashing Pumpkins’ Cherub Rock def. Aerosmith’s Train Kept a-Rollin’ (328-152)
Metallica’s Enter Sandman def. VAIGANT’s Seven (427-54)
Iron Maiden’s Run to the Hills def. The Acro-Brats’ Day Late, Dollar Short (347-191)
Radiohead’s Creep def. KISS’ Detroit Rock City (318-177)
Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives’ I Get By def. Fall Out Boy’s Dead on Arrival (302-289)

Cherub Rock will face Bang Camaro’s Pleasure (Pleasure), which won yesterday, while Enter Sandman and Run to the Hills will square off, and Creep will take on I Get By!

And now, without further ado, let’s take a look at today’s match-ups!

We kick off today with two of my personal favourites as Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead or Alive takes on The Mother Hips’ Time We Had!

Next, it’s a modern rock-off when The Strokes’ Reptillia takes on Nine Inch Nails’ The Hand That Feeds!

From modern rock, we go to classic rock when The Who’s Won’t Get Fooled Again goes up against David Bowie’s Suffragette City!

Next, a band with an MTV special takes on a band who were often featured in the early days of MTV when Crooked X’s Nightmare faces The Clash’s Should I Stay or Should I Go!

Next, a classic rock band takes on the oldest bonus song as Blue Öyster Cult’s (Don’t Fear) The Reaper goes head to head with Tribe’s Outside!

Finally, we have two songs that always seem to show up for me as Death of the Cool’s Can’t Let Go takes on Weezer’s Say It Ain’t So!

That’s all for Round 1! We’re going to take a one day break, and on Wednesday, we’ll be back with the start of the next round!
