Rock Band in 2011: ALL the Stats (and 2012 Predictions)

Rock Band superfan Mark S. (QuestionMark on the forums) reached out to us to let us know about a post he pulled together for the Rock Band forums. It contains a MASSIVE amount of facts, statistics, and metrics about Rock Band in 2011; basically anything you can think of is included thanks to his efforts, as well as everyone on the forums that helped fact check and crowdsource his data and information. It primarily relates to content released in 2011, and attempts to make some predictions about 2012, so I highly recommend you check this out if you haven’t already.
DLC by the Numbers – a Ton of Statistics for 2011 (And What They Imply for 2012)
Harmonix has talked a bit about the 2011 year in Rock Band. I thought it would be interesting to explore some of the detailed statistics about the year 2011 in DLC. Crunching the numbers is fun (for me at least) and may hold some predictive value and guide our guesses for next year.
A few caveats — these are slightly rough counts that I got by scanning through DLCQuickplay and Wikipedia’s list of DLC. I didn’t paste ‘em into Excel or anything, so there’s a good chance that a few figures are slightly off, but only to a minor degree. Also, some of these are a bit ambiguous — I had to make a few decisions about what to calculate and what to exclude. I looked at all official HMX DLC for the calendar year, including 2112, though it is officially counting as the DLC for the first week of next year. I decided to count 2112 as 1 track, as opposed to 3, 4, or 7. I included the Country Track Pack 2 releases as their week of DLC, but excluded the Schick giveaway songs. Since the Rock Band 2 free DLC were previously featured in the game, I left them out.
After all that, I landed at 306 total songs released over the course of 2011. That differs from HMX’s official count of 318, which I assume includes Rock Band Free 01 and the Schick songs. So, here it is: enough useless Rock Band DLC statistics to make you vomit! Or at least make you back away slowly while eying me uneasily. Enjoy!
MUCH more info after the jump!
DLC for 1/10

With the Rush 2112 DLC coming out on December 31st for the Xbox 360, it feels like we’ve gone a little longer than normal without a DLC announcement, which not surprisingly is exactly what happened. While taking time off for the holidays, having a few DLC announcements on staggered schedules rather than the typical Friday announcements seem to scramble things up a little bit, and with the New Year now here, we should be getting back on schedule. Lets find out if we’re going to be getting DLC from some of the artists mentioned during the holiday livestream.

Thursday Throwback: “Call Me” by Blondie

Happy New Year everyone! This week’s Thursday Throwback pick actually comes from my workplace. It was on the radio the other day, and it instantly reminded me of this Rock Band classic single. So here it is, Blondie’s Call Me.
So let’s talk about Blondie. A slight misnomer, the band is called Blondie, with lead singer Deborah Harry. Along with guitarist Chris Stein, the two form the basis of the group, joined by various other members throughout the years. Most successful in the UK and Australia in their earlier years, they “conquered” America with their third album, Parallel Lines. Blondie is widely regarded as one of the main pioneers of American New Wave and punk. They are still active today with a new album, Panic of Girls, released last year.
In addition to Call Me, the band has had four other songs released for Rock Band. One Way or Another and Heart of Glass were on-disc songs, on Rock Band 2 and Rock Band 3, respectively. Hanging on the Telephone and Rapture were released as DLC, while my chosen song was part of the Classic Rock Pack back in 2008, along with Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd (previously featured as a Thursday Throwback pick) and Message in a Bottle by The Police.
Call Me was released in 1980, written for the film American Gigolo, and achieved Number 1 in both the US and UK, making it one of the most successful singles by Blondie. Although there was an eight minute LP version, the version in Rock Band is the shorter, single version.
The 1-tier guitar is pretty easy, with the majority of the song featuring two-fret chords. The 1-tier bass is similarly very easy, and a simple chart throughout. The 3-tier Pro Drums has a very similar chart to the recently released Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash, as it features quick double hits for the majority of the song, and a few Rush-style fills, to make it enjoyable, assuming you can perform the double hits. And 1-tier vocals, which actually may be hard work for you male singers out there, as like Heart of Glass, she sings quite high pitched, so it may be tricky. Might be slightly easier for the female vocalists.
And just in case you haven’t seen the chart or heard the song, here’s a full band playthrough:
I would appreciate it if you would have a look at my growing fansite, The Tribute Pages which features tributes of video games (including Rock Band 3), TV shows and movies. Thank you!
