Friday Giveaway!

Just like last time, here’s the “rules:”  I’ll ask a question, and I’ll open up the comments so people can put their answers. Each answer is an entry into the giveaway. Only one answer/entry per person, please!  I’ll choose a winner after 8:00 PM (Central time) on Sunday night. Make sure to include your email address (I guarantee I’m not a spammer or whatever), because the winner will be contacted via email Sunday night or Monday. For this question, it will be winner chosen at random.

Last thing… please no complaining! I’m doing this for the community because it’s fun for me, and if that’s ruined, then boo on you. If I’m missing anything, I’ll post an update here in bold. Again, as this is coming out of my own pocket, I reserve the right to change the “rules” at anytime. So… on to the show…

Here’s what I got for this week. I’m giving away this rocking Rock Band shirt, male size extra large.

Just barely passing Green Grass and High Tides on expert guitar while one of my friends chugged along on drums. Felt great beating it, even if I did fail twice.

  • Jeff says:

I think it was the first time we hooked up the stage kit. The entire family was over and we turned it on for the first time and everyone was like WTF?! Then, the fog filled the room and the strobes synced with my drum kicks, and everyone in the house cheered…especially us adults.

  • Played country music (“Sin Wagon”) at a competitive Rock Band night and won first place anyway. Apparently, audiences are suckers for spontaneous hoedowns.

  • Aaron says:

I never have really ever had friends who have played RB on any level of difficulty with me in person. However my one roommate was a pretty decent guitarist. We wanted to beat the endless setlist all semester, but we just couldn’t pass Visions with him on guitar or bass, so on the final day before he flew back home for the summer we decided to play it with me on drums, and him on vocals. He had only ever played 2 songs before, so he sightread 82 songs in order for us to play this. When we got to the final few songs he couldn’t sing Painkiller or Panic Attack at all. So we had to play these songs for 30 minutes each with me on drums dying after 82 other songs, before he finally nailed enough to pass them. The feeling of finally beating that endless setlist was awesome =) and trumps any online experience of RB I have had.

  • Ben says:

After trying to beat 5-10 times on drums on hard i finally got towards the end (my best ever) and my friends guitar battery’s ran out!!! i threw my sticks across the room.

  • Jason says:

Probably one of my first times playing at my friend’s house…we played In Bloom, i was on vocals, and we were in that hospital-looking place (forget what it’s called). When the bass part before the verse came up, I just kept saying “I’m singing in a hospital,” and that was pretty much what i sang the whole song, since I didn’t know the words X)

  • Travis says:

When I was playing RB1 at a friend’s house and I was on drums. Played Orange Crush on expert, and surprised everyone with how good I was doing. Until I dropped the drum sticks. Haha.

Or when I found out there was going to be a Rock Band game based on The Beatles and their music.

  • Koen says:

For me, it’d have to be participating in ScrewAttack Gaming Convention’s Rock Band 2 tournament in Dallas. It was single-elimination, and two bands would face off against one another on a song chosen at random for the highest score. The setup was awesome; there was a platform set up like a stage, the game was projected onto the wall, and they had two huge speakers set up as well.
I was my band’s vocalist, and the song selected for the semi-finals was Dani California. I’d been doing vocals in RB for quite a while, but I’d never really done anything like karaoke before in front of a large group of people, so I was extremely nervous at first. Once the adrenaline kicked in, though, it was one of the most fun things I’d done in quite a while. I ended up FCing the song and we gold-starred it before the solo even started, but unfortunately the other band beat us by a marginal amount. It was still a blast, though, and it’s something I’d definitely do again.

Runner-up: Getting RB1 at midnight, playing with three friends until 5:30 in the morning, and my roommate and I not waking up until 3:30 in the afternoon the next day, thus missing work. Whoops. Totally worth it, though.

  • Chris J. says:

    Probably the Endless Setlist 2.

My brother and I played it all the way through on Expert Guitar and Bass to get the Bladder of Steel! We came close to failing on Visions, but I’m glad we didn’t. Also our mom asked us to help with the groceries during the setlist, but we couldn’t if we wanted the achievement. So we ignored her (sorry mom).

  • Our most memorable rock band experience was creating the war beast cake for our sons 14th birthday this past april and the rock band party we had with all his friends and family we gave out awards from awards for anything for Dressed to Kill best band and best score as well as 2nd and 3rd place ribbons. with the fog machine and lasers we got from Spencers gifts it was one cool cool party and oh yeah the warbeast cake ruled!!!

    rockbandaide Reply:

Oh, that’s right! I’ve seen pictures of that when I was reading reviews on the Warbeast guitar for the PS3. That was an EPIC cake!

  • SynysterKobra says:

my friend and i beat the endless setlist on RB1 after coming back from Taste of Chaos. And to make things worst we were in like all the mosh pits for the last 3 bands. So you can imagine how tired we were. So after like 4 or 5 hours we finally beat practically asleep. haha i was never going to do that again

  • BleachMan! says:

While I was away at college, I picked up Rock Band 2 to play with my roommates. When I found out my now current girlfriend picked it up, we played the whole setlist together, to see whose is the better vocalist. Actually had other people from the floor passing in, just to see whose was trying to sing Chop Suey. She ended up getting more wins, even beating me at The Trees (my favorite song). However, it was funny hearing her sing Master Exploder. Definitely one of my most memorable moments not only in Rock Band but college and life all together.

  • Tkavil says:

My favourite rock band moment was few months ago back in July, I was busy practicing visions so I could finally attempt the endless setlist.

After about an hour of failing I decided to take a break.. So I got up and went to put the drumset away, but it was wrapped around something.. and that something.. was a chair.

Thinking it was nothing.. I just tugged and it of course it freed the wire.. Also tipping over the chair aimed straight for my brand new 3 week old 32″ Sony Bravia.. As a last resort I tried to grab it but it was too far, so I tried to stop it with my foot, but instead.. *BAM* kicked it harder…

That is how i smashed my 3 week old TV, thanks to my careless drumming..

  • I play Rock Band with a group of NASA engineers (I live north of Houston, they live south, so it’s a 60 mile one way haul for me) since January and it’s been my first time to play with people that really know what they’re doing (our drummer’s been drumming for over twenty years).

I’m a little more wild than I think they’re used to, so the parties have gotten a little more fun with me around and also include more booze. After drinking for several hours, we decided to do a Metallica set. I did guitar on Hard since I was kind of drunk and everyone else was on Hard with the drummer on Expert. We played Blackened, Battery, and Ride The Lightning.

It was difficult to say the least, but total fun, especially since we didn’t fail any of the songs. I think I might have needed rescuing on a solo, though.

After that, I made them all do shots with me in the kitchen.

    Drunk NASA engineers FTW!

Getting 100% guitar (medium) on Let there be rock!
    (that was huge for me)

  • dxbrbnk says:

Off topic but, I just bought this shirt for $8 at Kohl’s last week lol.

  • JPKooper says:

Downloading The Whos Baba O’Reiley a month before I brought the game… and then waiting 2 and a half minutes into the song before I had a Chance to play anything!

  • p34nUt says:

picked up RB2 about a week before release date, and i think i had 800/1000 gamerscore before street date. plus, held top spot on the “pre-release” BotB for a while with a few friends. was pretty awesome! can’t wait for beatles!!!!!!!

  • Lonnie says:

The night before Rock Band 2 released, finally beating Run To The Hills on expert drums and getting my AN-I-MAL!! It was amazing and I wouldn’t shut up about it.

  • Dan O. says:

Getting Rock Band 2 the first day it came out and playing through World Tour on guitar for 11 hours straight. Unlocked most of the songs and finished up whatever I could the next day.

  • HazyCloud says:

I organized a Rock for Charity event at my work. With the help of our Administrators and Human Resources dept, the entire company was able to come play Rock Band for 3 hours while on the clock. It was actually a bigger success than we planned as we originally only scheduled it for 2 hours. Employees could pick what song they want from all of the songs, what band members to play with, and the cost was only 2 dollars per person. We ended up making close to $500 dollars for Big Brothers Big Sisters.

We did it again this year but the turnout wasn’t near what it was the first time. We only managed about $200 for charity this year.

Those 2 “RB moments” have to be the best I’ve had.

  • Sean says:

I was in a Rock Band AMP Energy Drink contest at my college. My band and I were in the top five, moving onto the next round. The big day came, we were all dressed up and while rocking out in front of about 400 students, disaster struck.

During a slow part in You Oughta Know, I attempted to jump onto the stage, but instead I face planted. Don’t believe me, check out the video.

After taking a 3 hour trip to PA to go visit my brother, he suprised me by throwing a huge Rock Band party with all of our relatives. I can play on expert but I only played on Hard not to make anyone feel bad :)

  • Jeremy says:

I have a couple favorites. One time, I was playing in my room with a few friends, and we got one guy to sing Garbage’s “I Think I’m Paranoid”. He did a cool singing & rapping mix during it, but has since refused to reprise that performance…

My other favorite was playing with my siblings last Christmas. Me on guitar, brothers on bass and drums, and my little sister singing. We just jammed to a ton of different songs that my sister knew, occasionally trading around our instruments. It was also the only time I’ve ever sung – “Enter Sandman”. Fun times.

  • JTHomeslice says:

Beating Visions. I just started using BNS, so I decided to give it a go. I had made it up to the outro, never further. First try with BNS, I got it. I threw down my guitar and walked outside and yelled. Good times.

  • OnefromNV says:

Mine would have to be when I came back to Rock Band 1 songs after playing expert drums for a year, and FCing Vasoline (It took me a WEEK to pass it when I started!).

Future memorable moment: When I go down to Harrah’s Reno, find a band and win the $500 bottle service at their VIP lounge by playing drums XD

  • Hislilgemini says:

I havent been playing Rock Band too long. My most memorable moment was trying to play the drums on hard and my first song was Metallica :Battery -HA..i laughed the whole time until i finally failed out.

  • Blaze says:

Actually i threw a mini-party for me and 3 of my friends, but then they invited more friends. At the end of the night there were like over 20 people at my house and everyone wanted to play Rock Band. Everyone was into the music that everyone picked. It was actually one of the best moments i have ever had playing Rock Band!

  • I was lied to by the GameStop here and was told there would be a midnight launch at their location and waited outside the mall at midnight to get my RB2 set. They didn’t open until 10am.

  • nwahs086 says:

Staying up all night with 3 friends to beat the Endless Setlist (Expert). I traded off with someone to play bass, and we had a drummer and a guitarist.

We were chugging along doing fine until we hit Green Grass and High Tides. Neither I nor the other bassist could handle that part because it is the hardest bass part in the game. We tried every possible combination because the guitarist and drummer were proficient at all the instruments, but the two of us couldn’t keep up.

We would always get to the same part of the song about 7 minutes in and fail so we played it for hours (about 4 of just GGaHT). Eventually we were able to conquer it with the original guitarist on bass, the original drummer on guitar, and the other bassist and I hitting the drum bass pedal (separately) and the drum pads, respectively. That was the most creative setup I’ve ever played RB with. It felt amazing to finally beat it after hours of failing. The rest of the setlist was tough but nothing compared to GGaHT.

  • Ben says:

While it may not be as great as some others, i still say my favorite moment was playing “Highway Star” for the first time on Drums… that was such a blast and got into the song so much that i was kinda dancing as the song was going, i got so much into it, that i lost the beat and nearly failed out, thankfully i recovered in time to finish the song.

  • Absoltastic says:

I got rock band 1 for wii as an early birthday present last year, and I played it all day, and I didn’t care about the difficulty I played on and if I got FC’s or not. It was FUN

  • Ed says:

Attempting the Endless Setlist only to get kicked back to the main menu at song 71. The cries of “NOOOO!” could be heard from 2 blocks away as I forcefully knocked over the drumset and rushed to my phone to tell my friends.

  • leftyhero2 says:

My most memorable is FC’ing Electric Crown on RB2, because It has 3000 notes! I was so happy! My nemesis song has to be This is Exile. I was trying really hard not to miss all the blasts, but kept failing. But when I did beat it, i got a whopping 4 stars! I DID go to the midnight release of RB2. I was so excited for more Nirvana and Soundgarden. At the local Gamezone (really awesome club for Halo,RB,GH, and CoD) I hooked up with the manager to throw a wild RB2 opening party the next night. I payed him $50 dollars and I brought all the equipment so it was really exciting. :)

  • Killblue says:

Beating the Endless Setlist with my girlfriend. That was a great time.

  • Back4Revenge says:

The many parties that it has fueled, up until the red pad completely snapped off my drums :(

After trying to beat Blinded By Fear 5-10 times on drums on hard i finally got towards the end (my best ever) and my friends guitar battery’s ran out!!! i threw my sticks across the room.

repost, sorry forgot to include the song name >:(

Mine would have to be bringing my Xbox360 and Rock Band set up to a friends house for a big birthday party of about 60 people. We set it up to run through the ceiling speaker system that runs through the house. At about 9pm we turned it on (LOUD) and started with Kickstart My Heart. I was on drums and remember looking over (mind you I was a few cocktails in) and seeing peoples faces who had never seen the game before. It was so epic as everyone gathered around watching and cheering us on. By the end of the night everyone had a turn and we probably sold about 5 bundles that night..hahaha! Thank god for myrockbandsongs.com for allowing me to print a karaoke style song list because at that point I had over 500 songs.

    Ahh, great memories, great party!

  • Jason says:

For me, it had to be beating the ESL2 on guitar and drums. For guitar, I failed Visions like 19 times straight and was just about to quit when I finally passed it. For drums, it was just great to finally beat Visions and Shoulder to the Plow for the first time each. The drums and console were also faulty and crash occasionally.

  • Ibbored says:

Oh, back between RB1 and 2 we had a big Rock Band party that went extremely late that turned into a makeshift sleepover sort of thing. Most of the people werent excellent or anything, but lots of ridiculous singing and pretending to be British rock stars at 3 in the morning is much funnier than you’d think it would be.

  • Tegolin says:

Me and my friend beating the ESL1.
When we got to “Won’t Get Fooled Again” we were dancing around.

  • Link2312 says:

Hmmm so many awesome memories lol Me and my mates get together almost every weekend to play rock band lol… I’m gonna say the first time I took my drums to a mates place and we got some mad epic drum battles going and we got a big bunch of people watching us instead of the screen because apparently (i havnt watched a drum battle yet lol) it looks so awesome to see 2 people doing the same thing at the exact same time on drums!

  • PunkAaron37 says:

My biggest memory with Rock Band is when me and my friend were doing ESL2 and the power at his house shut off on painkiller and i was mad. I also remember the date. February 8th, 2009…

  • Chris O'Sullivan says:

Honestly, the best times I’ve had with Rock Band are always the times me and my brother get together and play. We don’t have much in common and we’ve been drifting farther and farther from each other for years, but Rock Band still brings us together every once in a while to have fun again!

  • CrunchbiteNuva says:

Definitely my biggest memory was that I was about to start ESL2 when my 360 e-74′d and 2 weeks later, passing it :)

  • A while back, I was on Xbox Live, rocking out with my RB band, “Dunder Mifflins Finest”. It was jam session #2 for Rock Band 2, and little did we know that it was destined to be legend- wait for it -dary.

    So, the story goes…

During song 3 of 4 for the “win a bus achievement”, which was Fall Out Boy’s Dead On Arrival, my kick drum pedal snapped off at the heel. Yep, not in half, but right where it connects to the base of the pedal, it sheared right off.

This did not stop the set…if fact, it is what happened after that made the said set, legendary. Well, our threesome (get those thoughts out of your head, it’s not one of those stories). Our threesome continued through the song, with me attempting to finagle the kick pedal to hit the proper notes. I red flashed, and nearly flat lined since it’s a bass drum heavy song, and I was lucky if I was able to connect 20% of the hits. I in fact failed out 2 times, no one else had any overdrive to save me. Just as our crowd meter was to plunge and the crowd boo us off stage….the song finished.

The group says “we have one more song in the set, what do we do?” Play on, is what we do. And play one, we did. At this point, the hinge of my pedal was disconnected and the spring about to snap off. The pedal was flapping in the breeze. The song was Main Offender. Fortunately, I know the song well on drums, and planned to do what I could. Our bass and guitarists planned to save overdrives, in order to save me if when I failed out.

So, I was hitting just about every note, sans bass drum, and an occasional bass drum note would connect. Then the pedal completely lost alignment and there we go. I was on expert drums with no kick drum pedal. Nada, zilch, nothing. I failed out, once…and our bands string section continued to discuss. ”Wait, wait for it. Don’t use overdrive yet. wait. OK NOW, go into overdrive”. They did that by managing the time and crowd meter. It was brilliant.

It was back on me to hit every one of my four pad notes, and I think I 99%’ed those. As a team, we prevailed and won our bus. It was the greatest jam session of all time, and dare I say, legendary. DMF, Unite!

  • Marshall says:

I’ve had many memorable moments playing Rock Band since I got it for Christmas, but the one that sticks out in my mind the most happened, as many other people’s have, while playing the Endless Setlist. I was on vocals, my best friend on guitar, my other friend on bass and his dad on drums, all playing on expert, all of use interchanging throughout the night, and throwing other people in occasionally, as we were all in the same house. We were having a blast, but then it happened. My friend’s dad has 70k gamerscore, and he was also trying to get the Bladder of Steel achievement. His son was laying down playing Bass, and right as Shoulder to the Plow started, his hand accidentally hit the select button, effectively ending our bid for BoS. Needless to say, his dad has an anger problem, and his reaction/scream was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen.

  • Fap The Saint says:

Actually I had a pretty memorable moment yesterday…I played Rock Band ACDC @ a saturn supermarket and I FC’d the intro of Thunderstruck infront of 30~ people. I found it rather interesting that they actually acknowledged me with applause after I had played on a plastic guitar.

  • PETER A. says:

My most memorable experience involving Rock Band is from a few months ago. At my college, some film/theater friends and I discovered a deep, passionate appreciation for said video game within each other. We would head to my dorm room almost every Friday and play 15 to 20 song sets just because we wanted to feel amazing.

B, my friend on the drums, had the most amazing fills, even if he only played on hard. XD He played like he was in front of a stadium of people, and he barely broke a sweat.

J, my buddy on vocals, used to be in a hardcore band and would do death growls to activate Overdrive. He would also sing the guitar parts for “Go With The Flow”. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life. Try a death growl during “Any Way You Want It”, you’ll see what I mean.

I’m heading back to school soon, and the first thing that happens when I get there: epic Rock Band party!

  • Liam says:

probably when i 5 stared green grass and high tides on expert guitar for the first time im was so happy and messeged my fl on xbl about it :D
