Int’l Pre-Order Promo Reveals More In-Game Instruments
I know it seems like the US is getting all the good pre-order promos (with the exception of the PS3 Keyboard bundle, of course), but it looks like Spanish retailer Xtralife.es is giving away a code to unlock another in-game guitar with purchase, the Squier “Sprit” (although I think they mean Esprit). This follows in the footsteps of the Amazon and Best Buy promotions that are giving away codes to unlock other exclusive in-game instruments. This lends me to further believe that non-song DLC will probably not be an uncommon occurrence with Rock Band 3.

I thought the Esprit was available in RB2. Now they’ve stripped it from the game?
Or, maybe you get that finish from the Spanish retailer?
omg I was first of my friends to leik dis
I still want to pre-order in Canada (from somewhere other than EB Games).
Do not understand how on there RB3 is: 59.99 (Wii), 64.99 (Xbox360) and 69.99 (PS3) or at least listed as.
Also there is no keyboard listed for PS3 and the Mustang is listed at $169.99.
I just really hope BestBuy or Futureshop or someone has these things on the 26th.

I pre-ordered at EB games and it was $59.99
Interesting… Here’s hoping that signature guitars and drumsets from artists are next!
Argh, I’m cool with paying for songs, but I draw the line at cosmetic crap like new guitars. I really hope they don’t go that route… Exclusive pre-order DLC is bad enough, but to start charging for cosmetic items just really sucks.

I agree. There may be a market for this, but I won’t be taking part.

I’m with you. I won’t be purchasing a guitar for my in-game character, but that’s not what is significant here. I don’t think the intention is to nickel-and-dime the community with virtual gear like this (that’s what the 2,000+ songs are for). Think bigger. This highlights the ability to accept downloadable instruments, and potentially characters, venues, and more. Harmonix is obviously committed to the DLC model; future band-centric games could be produced and distributed this way, in the form of “premium DLC” packs instead of being strictly primarily disc based.

I can’t get excited about new virtual guitars, but I’m a sucker for buying DLC outfits. (e.g. The Sims 2, Soulcalibur IV, Guild Wars, Street Fighter IV, Xbox avatars, et cetera.)

Ehh. As long as this sort of model doesn’t diminish the amount of options included in the retail editions, it doesn’t bother me. It can be a means for HMX to expand upon the customization options at a later date, without doing a full disc release (and at incremental prices that people can either take or leave!)
That being said, I don’t usually pay extra for new outfits and such in games, but…we’ll see what becomes available in RB3
Charging real $$$ for in game instruments, what next Gran Turismo 5 charging $$$ for new digital tires on my Ferrari?

It’s been happening for a long time.. it’s just like any virtual item you buy. (online games.. WOW for example.. ew)

Yeah, this is really nothing new… http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/03/download-oblivions-horse-armor-for-a-price/
I know this is off topic, but some songs (Crazy Train for one) use frets higher than 17, which I believe is how many the Mustang will have. Does anyone know if this has been addressed?

The game will detect that you are using a Mustang controller, and compress the chart somewhat to use 17 frets, as opposed to the 22 on the Squier. From what I understand, the amount of notes will be the same, but by necessity, there will be some variation on the actual placement of the notes.

Well that sucks…not sure if I will buy the Mustang now. Thanks for the info, though.
sooo many double negativesss
Speaking of non-song DLC anybody remember when the Hendrix estate gave Harmonix rights to use his likeness? That’d be neat I guess considering it’s like SUPER cheap and comes with some neat Hendrix stuff for your avatars and stuff.
And Hendrix’ guitar of choice was a Fender if I recall correctly.
Guys, this isn’t DLC. I pre-ordered my bundle at Best Buy yesterday, and I got a DVD case. Inside the DVD case was a slip of paper that said “To get your guitar, enter your cheat code on the main menu”, along with the code. It was colors, meaning to enter the code by the guitar’s buttons, not a DLC microsoft code.
I have no doubt that this guitar is in the game that everyone buys, and you’ll be able to access it without pre-ordering it.
