Gamespot Shows Off Rock Band 3′s Character Creator
Gamespot posted a new video today that finally shows off the Rock Band 3 character creator. As you can see from the pic above, there are many more options than in previous titles. In many of the options above, you have what looks like up to 18 different choices for each selection. Once you’ve made your selection, analog sliders let you make further adjustments to your selection. There are similar selections that let you change height, weight, muscle type, and skin tone.
I’ve gone ahead and embedded the video below (replaced with YouTube video now), but also feel free to view the HD version of the video over on Gamespot.
[Thanks to Andre for the heads up!]

question is, how fat can I make them…been wanting to get Fat Bastard in game as a drummer.

not that fat by the looks of it. They moved the slider all the way over, but it’s just ‘not muscled’ rather than fat.
The thing that excites me is I have certain characters who I always recreate in any Rock Band I can and with each iteration they get more and more awesome.
Sara Tera FTW!

I really like doing this, too. I feel like a big dork for it but in Rock Band, I made all these characters for the different instruments because you couldn’t use one for all the instruments. Then, in Rock Band 2, I ended up just making them all again since I had become attached to them through playing Rock Band.
I’m actually pretty excited to make them all again in Rock Band 3, this time get into the nitty gritty of the creation process and really make them distinct.

Addendum:
I also like that the staple default characters are back! There’s like no focus placed on them in any of the games but people still know and love them (like the Duke!) which I think is awesome.
The Duke of Gravity is in the game!
Hell yeah!

Behind the times there, sir =P
Simply perfect. Awesome. I would wish to see the clothes customization, but the face editor is perfect.
I like the back to the future reference.
*Dances areound gleefully* Oh I love how they are inserting your customs into more of the game <3 I can watch mah band get in to zany and wild band-jinks
RB3 is going to KICKASS
Pure Orgasmic.
Prudy. AFTER spending hours re-creating my fav. band, I shall spend hours adjusting the secondary characters I play a lot to re-create and finally tweak them more how I see them.
Ipod freindly link anyone?

And here I was hoping for a video of Rock Band Barbie.
am i the only one that thinks that the first picture of the chara. creation looks kinda like John Drake? xD
I’m amazed, a character creator that doesn’t make people look like large forehead/ squinty eye freaks.

*facepalm*
Yet all this goes to waste, as we can’t assign what instrument these stand-ins will play. It will suck all the harder to watch the more detailed stand-ins all playing the wrong instruments.

The quite simple solution to that is to customise all the instruments for each so that it doesn’t matter, however I see where you’re coming from.

Re-creating real bands will suck harder still. Using Led Zeppelin, with the one player being Jimmy Page, as an example, it will be painful to watch John Bonham step up and play bass, while Robert Plant steps behind the drum kit and John Paul Jones sings.
I’m getting around that by re-creating the Guitar Hero characters. I wasn’t happy with their portrayal in GH6, especially Izzy and Clive’s demotion to extra characters, and Casey and Judy’s hideous warrior forms. And, it won’t be nearly as painful to see Izzy at the mic one set and behind the drum kit the next, since the Guitar Hero characters are no longer instrument specific in Guitar Hero to begin with.
Looking forward to this, I’m an avid character customiser, I’ve wasted many hours over the years tweaking my characters ’til I’ve no more options in the tweaking lab, in many many games, and tpically I’m dissatisfied due to inanely large foreheads and squinty eyes. But someone already pointed that out, so meh.
