FREE “RBN Megamix” Track Next Week!
A number of independent authors of the Rock Band Network have created a unique Megamix for Rock Band, a ten-minute epic track consisting of samples from 12 separate tracks, each available in their entirety in the Rock Band Network Store. It’s a Rock Band experience unlike anything you’ve played before, and a small taste of the amazing and expanding library of original music in the Rock Band Network Store!
Go to the (regular) Rock Band Music Store on Tuesday, August 31st and download your FREE copy of “RBN Megamix 01″ by Various Artists. Check out gameplay of the track below.
But that’s just the beginning of your RBN adventure. Once you’ve checked out the Megamix, be sure to thank the independent authors and artists who volunteered their efforts and their product to this unique effort by buying their tracks in the Rock Band Network Store!
The full list of artists and songs included in order are as follows (click on the links to learn more about the song and purchase through Xbox.com):
- Rose of Jericho – Buried Cold
- James William Roy – Paper Valentines
- Glass Hammer – Sleep On
- Robby Suavé - Everyone I Know is an Alcoholic
- Scratching the Itch – End of This
- You Shriek – No Heroes
- Voodoo Pharmacology – Minnesota
- Chrome Coma – Bow Down
- Freen in Green – Frontier Factory
- Paul Henry Smith & The Fauxharmonic Orchestra – Night on Bald Mountain
- Counterfeit Pennies – Five More Minutes
- Single White Infidel – Inheritance
Congrats to all the authors and artists for putting this together. It’s amazing!
UPDATE: There’s an issue with a broken talkie causing vocalists to fail out on song 4 of the Megamix. The track has been pulled from the RBN Store, and will hopefully be replaced once fixed. Not sure what went wrong, as the final Peer Reviewed version has since been revisited and everything works correctly.

I have been following the creation of this project on the Creators page, and it’s great to finally see it being realized next week. Though I’m sure more info will become available as time goes on…it should be known now that this was an ENTIRELY community driven project. The charting, mixing, and testing was performed by the community, just like any other RBN song.
HMX only stepped in at the end so they could get it approved as a free release through the regular channels. So RBN fans, this one is all on you! GREAT WORK!
Is out now? or is it first next week?

“It’s a Rock Band experience unlike anything you’ve played before,”
Didn’t I already do this right after the Super Bowl?

The Who ≠ 12 different RBN artists

The Who Smash-Up was a single performance with naturally recorded transitions. The Megamix is a completely custom mix job in which 12 independent RBN song files were edited together into a single playable track.
This is awesome and a great incentive. Not too dissimilar from the demos but I’d say more enjoyable and worth it. Plus it contains my favourite RBN song ever, Paper Valentines so it’s all good
Okay, but does it come for the PS3 too?

On the website it says “download the track directly your Xbox 360!” D: So I’m assuming we are either never getting it or will have to wait at least 30 days

There are currently no plans for the track to be brought over to PS3 because at this time none of the 12 tracks in the mix are available for purchase. Thus it defeats the purpose of the track as a promotional tool.
I’ve known about this for quite a while, and am glad to finally see it come out. The DJ was an awesome addition to the mix.
Hopefully this will get more customers to check out RBN.
No mention of a PS3 release, is there?
“If you haven’t already, go … on Tuesday, August 31st …”
This don’t seem right…

Editing fail. Fixed. Thanks.
Awesome! I own a few of the songs, and there’s a couple more on there I’m thinking about getting now. Can’t wait to play it. Awesome project and I hope to see more like it in the future.
It would be awesome to see more of these as time goes on.
So no PS3 release? literally bull shit.. I’m sorry but you Xbox players already have a chance to buy these.. why download this? Just go buy the full song..
Give it to us PS3 people so we have a preview what’s up and coming!
No Stars btw?

No point in promoting songs on a system that can’t purchase them.

Not literally bull shit, actually.

No, but we can dream of a day when literally downloading free bull shit will be a reality. Sure, it might not have the same feel or smell or taste of the physical medium. But by god, what a glorious time that will be.

You could just buy network songs? You don’t have to re-buy everything.
Really, really awesome.
Great idea to get people more involved with RBN releases, and they’ve picked some awesome songs for it too. Been reading bits about this project here and there for a while, glad to finally see it come to fruition!
Kudos to the guys behind it, for sure
This is a fantastic idea.
Dammit, I already bought 5 more minutes. Oh well, I’ll still download it.

It’s not a pack of songs. It’s a single track that is a medley of the 12 songs in the list.
Dang that’s good news but too bad it’s not confirmed with PS3 yet when August 31st is also my birthday
, xbox is so ahead with rock band compare with other consoles…
Night on Bald Mountain for free?
sign me up.
Lol I think all those bands suck. The only song that looks fun to me is Night on Bald Mountain, so I hope PS3 gets that song.

Rool story cro.
Darn. I already have No Heroes.
But still, looks like a lot of fun.
I LOVE IT! but is that DJ voice actually in it :S ?
What a great concept! I find it is kind of a pain to download and play as many demos as I’d like, so this is a really innovative way to let me try a lot of music. I hope they have great success with this and this practice becomes a regular feature.
In fact, in order to have a reference point, here are some baseline sales. As of now, per Keldon’s rockbandscores.com, here are the songs’ current sales (and how many sold in the past week):
Rose of Jericho – Buried Cold — 415 (6)
James William Roy – Paper Valentines — 147 (1)
Glass Hammer – Sleep On — 284 (7)
Robby Suave – Everyone I Know… — 111 (0)
Scratching the Itch – End of This — 170 (2)
You Shriek – No Heroes — 278 (4)
Voodoo Pharmacology – Minnesota — 184 (1)
Chrome Coma – Bow Down — 352 (3)
Freen in Green – Frontier Factory — 295 (0)
Fauxharmonic Orchestra – Night on Bald Mountain — 700 (0)
Counterfeit Pennies – Five More Minutes — 149 (2)
Single White Infidel – Inheritance — 114 (1)
I’ll try to remember to compare the sales charts a week or two out to see if this promotion seems to have had an impact.
It’s pretty cool, the only thing that’s annoying the the radio host voice.

It’s in there. It was sort of necessary to let the player know what songs they were playing.

It bugged me at first, but the more I listened to it the more it reminded me of a DJ at a club. This song is basically a party mix with a DJ calling out the songs as they transition.
I remember playtesting this several months ago. It’s an interesting concept but I can’t say I particularly care for any of the songs involved. It’s too bad that this has taken so long to come out since it would be a pretty effective form of promotion of they could pump these out regularly.
The link for Everyone I Know is an Alcoholic is broken.

Or, maybe the Rock Band site was hosed, because now it’s working again.
RockBandAide Reply:

Not sure, but I’ll correct now. Thanks!
It’s a really cool idea and I do like what I heard of some of the songs so it could end up being very effective but the DJ voice kills it for me. I understand why they did it but it makes me not want to play the song as it’s really annoying.
I would’ve rather they put the ‘RBNMegamix.com’ URL as the Artist name and then if you were interested in the songs, you could visit the site to learn all the details.
No ps3… Lame.
And no, I’m not buying an Xbox with its 6 month life span just for RBN tracks

The new Xbox 360s do not suffer from the same RROD problems that the initial batch did.
The DJ ruins it for me, it just seems so out of place. The charts look like a lot of fun, at least.

It’s not meant to be your typical Rock Band DLC. It’s giving you a bite-size taste of the different tracks. The full versions of each song in the Megamix are obviously missing the emcee.
