TEN More Songs Revealed for Rock Band 3
I’ll waste little time in getting to these. EuroGamer.net is reporting 11 new songs (although only lists 10) that will be appearing on Rock Band 3. MTV Games and Harmonix will be in Germany this week for the Gamescom event, promoting a setlist that is arguably more “Euro-friendly.” Anyway, the new songs are…
- Bob Marley & The Wailers – Get Up, Stand Up
- INXS – Need You Tonight
- Poni Hoax – Antibodies
- Rammstein – Du Hast
- Roxette – The Look
- Tokio Hotel – Humanoid
- HIM – Killing Loneliness
- Maná – Oye Mi Amor
- Slipknot – Before I Forget
- War – Low Rider
Also, anyone still doubting that Gamefaqs leak?
[Big thanks to Jon for the heads up!]

No songs here that I love, most of them I have not heard before but I have confidence in Harminix and they have not disappointed me yet with their song choices (or at least not massively).
Hmmm, some of these songs seem very familiar. Low Rider is a cool surprise, though.
In other news, rumored setlist utterly confirmed. Can’t wait for some Good Vibrations, Caught in a Mosh, Werewolves of London, etc. etc.
Maybe those are just to the EU version of the game. I know most of the artists here, and some seems very european mkt oriented. But I’d really have some fun with my lady with the Roxette song.
Yup. Seems that Gamefaqs list ended up being true.
Finally enough new songs for a second CD to practice my vox in the car! The setlist is definitely taking on an international flavor, which is pretty interesting. Doing the YouTube rounds, I liked the sound of most of the new stuff. Only the Tokio Hotel one was the one I found a little iffy.
GameFaqs leak seems true at this point, if it didn’t already. There was a second leak that followed it, but now that one looks like BS.
Low Rider! That’s almost as funny as Rock Lobster, and just as awesome.
Also, GameFAQs leak = all but confirmed at this point.
Get Up Stand Up
lol, just listened to “The Look” – didn’t realize what it was. My wife will be pleased with the 80′s tunes so far.
That drum track for Slipknot will be insane. And in before the “Oh noez another Spanish song”
If the Gamefaqs leak is indeed true, am I alone in being ridiculously excited for the Tegan and Sara song?

No, no you are not.
Though I would like to see some of their songs off Sainthood too: Hell, The Cure, and Northside all come to mind.

I’ve been putting “The Con” into the official song request thing for years now! What do you want to see in the inevitable DLC three-pack? I’m thinking “Walking With the Ghost”, “Hell”, and maybe “I Know I Know I Know”.
Ah, Before I Forget… I hated playing it on GH3. Hopefully the chart is better for RB. Though I would have much preferred a different song… maybe Vermilion or The Nameless.
If you are going more euro friendly, more Blur would be nice. Not exactly excited about the metal, but I’m sure some people are…
I love the inclusion of Low Rider. I almost feel trolled, yet… also so excited.
Sad face, really didn’t want Du Hast in RB3, got sick of that song in GH5.

Du Hast was in GH5? Why don’t I remember that?
Oh well. I’m still excited for Roxette, INXS, and War.

Yep, and all the keyboard stuff was charted to Guitar in typical Guitar Hero fashion. I guess that’s one good thing about it coming to RB3, you won’t have to do stupid touch notes
I’ve been watching a lot of George Lopez lately and was like why isn’t Low Rider in the game yet? irony
Lovin that War is in RB! Low Rider will be awsome to sing! and Bob Marley! Also can’t leave out Roxette!
Low Rider is a song I would have never thought of but now I feel like it will be fun. The only songs I could really do without are the spanish one, tokio hotel, and Du hast. I really prefer english songs. also tokiop hotel is a horrible band.
Definitely, HMX’s song choices are killing my hype. I’m starting to believe a random RBN selection could do it much better. Maná WTF… [facepalm]
Forget about the setlist and pray for DLC to save this game.
I’m pretty psyched for the different sounds of:
Bob Marley & The Wailers – Get Up, Stand Up
INXS – Need You Tonight
Both favorites of mine and different sounds for Rock Band. I’d definitely be up for more Marley in the future, plus the new(ish) INXS “Pretty Vegas” would be a great addition.
Not really feeling the RB3 setlist. I predict this will be the last in the series…

Easy, most popular games play to the mainstream (radio rock). Harmonix choices constantly buck the mainstream, and when they do bring in bands that a lot of players are looking for they dont bring the best songs in thier catalog. (Example: Staind) It’s fine to have alot of music from a lot a different genres and promote new music but if they dont feed the mainstream gamers, guys who like a lot of this alt rock and punk wont have a game to play. Look back at the top selling dlc and you’ll see im right. Pearl Jam, Boston, Ozzy, Journey and even Lady GaGA sold a ton of DLC. That’s the stuff that enables them to bring us Avenged Sevenfold and dragon force thats fun to play but really does’nt sell as much.

I’m not trying to diss any of the bands on the tracklist but mainstream is what sells games. Come on who’s gonna sing the Chicago song? I had the album and like the song but it wont get much play. Huey Lewis and the news? One thing to be saif about the piano, you know there’s gonna be Billy Joel. If there isnt they should just pack it up.
Guitar Hero is crap but they get the big songs thats why they sell.

Wow. Umm, okay.
I’m sure with Viacom as an investor, and with profits that steadily have been rising every year according to recent Viacom investor calls, Harmonix is in real deep trouble.
Harmonix hasn’t paid off their investors in full yet. According to Alex and MTV Games they have a long term investment plan and Rock Band isn’t going anywhere for the next 3-5 years. They’re too big. There’s too much at stake and too many wrapped into it.
You underestimate things.

Really? Too Big? Nobody is to big. And Harmonix is not making the profits they anticipated they have not seen rising profits. RB2 cam out to lackluster reviews due to little advancement in graphics or gameplay. Beatles RB sales fell short thus no more dlc. And if selling 1.7 million copies is bad for Beatles RB they can be happy with 133,000 copies of Greenday RB. Just read the news. They had to pay back the bonuses they go because they didnt achieve the goals. How many RB 2 kits did stores get stuck with?

I’m not just spinning this because I run the site, but seriously, Rock Band isn’t going anywhere. Have sales been less than expected? Absolutely. Beatles expectations were VERY high and actual results fell short of that, and Green Day sales were pretty low. But Beatles STILL outsold it’s competitor, which bodes better for Rock Band. And no one knows how much Green Day cost to produce. For all we know, the game still could have been profitable.
Your Joystiq post (from over a YEAR ago) paints a bad picture, and it was pretty bad back then, but on Viacom’s recent 10-Q quarterly financial filing, they commented that “Media Networks contributed $155 million of the increase, principally reflecting the increased revenues and lower Rock Band losses…” (source: http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1339947/000119312510178455/d10q.htm) Plus, Harmonix has outsourced the pricey peripherals to MadCatz, which have historically had razor-thin profit margins. It’s undeniable that things are DEFINITELY trending upward for the franchise.

Hey we all love RB but facts are facts Beatles RB did not outsell its compitition. GH5 outsold Beatles RB adn is still out selling them. (Sadly) Unfortunately I only have year old sources to point you too. Even your quote makes my argument. “Lower Rock band losses” but still losses. BTW your link is broken…
My question is can’t MTV use it’s weight to pull in more music?

My point of view is that I’d like to see actual disc releases come to an end. Release downloadable updates that enhance the game engine and gameplay now and then, but have the rest of it completely DLC-driven. When it comes to disc games I’m always having to figure out if it’s worth buying to get the few songs I want and get stuck with all the songs I don’t. That’s why I ended up not getting Lego, Beatles or Green Day. RB3 luckily has enough songs I want on it, plus I’ve gotta get it for the keyboard, but ultimately I’d like to just have a totally custom game where I can hit random play and never get Du Hast or Slipknot.

Unless this game can revitalize (sp?) the rhythm gaming market (which some expect it to do), you might actually be right. Not because it’s a bad game, not because Guitar Hero retakes its throne, but because gamers by and large will lose interest in the genre. It’s really too soon to tell, though, and you’re argument’s a bit of a slippery slope.

I agree with much of your assessment. This setlist has no direction. It looks like there are going to be even more songs to skip than RB2, because they’ll either be boring or hard on the ears. Is HMX stubborn or what? Didn’t they learn from the ‘So Whatcha Want(s)’ and ‘Rebel Girl(s)’ of the RB2 setlist? I can’t imagine this is the best they could do with their licensing money. How is it that RB1 got it right but each further installment of the series seems to get more clueless?
Yes, RB can go away. It’s a business. If a business doesn’t turn a profit, it closes. Viacom isn’t a charity organization.

And, I should add, I prefer the RB2 tracklist to the RB1 set. By a mile.
I’m not super excited about the RB3 setlist either, but let’s not be ridiculous and say it’ll doom the entire franchise. Some people will like the RB3 setlist the best. Some people, like myself, prefer the RB2 songs. And some people, like yourself, will think the disc set peaked with RB1.
There’s nothing wrong with trying to satisfy a slightly different/broader audience with each disc release. Besides, the RB1/RB2 songs will carry over, as well as existing DLC. And new DLC continues each week. Not to mention starting with RB3, you’ll be able to hide the songs you don’t like.
Let’s not wonder if the sky is going to fall just because we’re not going crazy over the on-disc setlist, guys.
Indeed, and there are still many tracks yet to announce, there are a lot of classics in this pack i know, the setlist will get better and better for me!.
Euro Friendly… Didnt they get enough with Lego Rock Band?
I’m going to have a good laugh playing Low Rider. Love that, Get Up, Stand Up, and Need You Tonight.
Please, Harmonix. Please do not go the GHWT route and put in any more songs with foriegn lyrics. Santana would be my exception, but other than that, I speak English.

Hi It’a-a-me,
we apologize for expecting that people who are not from the USA of GB might want to sing songs in their native language, like the 1500 previos songs you sang. However, after having read your comment we realized that we should ignore these people entirely, give up the international market and stick to songs with US-lyrics only.
You might be happy to know that we go even one step further by even excluding every other band that is not from the USA, just in case anyone could become upset by the inclusion of non-US-material.
I hope you’ll enjoy RB3 much more now.
God bless the USA.
Kind regards

There’s still the fact that American and British bands some of the most popular world-wide, and that many bands from non-English-speaking countries still sing songs in English. Tokio Hotel, for instance.
And including songs with non-English lyrics is still better than putting instrumentals on disk.
Low Rider is a pretty rad pick. I’ve been wanting that and/or Why Can’t We Be Friends for the longest time.
The rest I’ve never heard, well except for that Slipknot song, so I’ll give ‘em a listen. I avoided Du Hast in GH5 like the plague so I’m lucky in that I didn’t let them beat me over the head with it.
Amerika would’ve been better. Just sayin’.

Winning with 3 live tracks? they lost it at that.. live tracks suck and they will definitely overchart them like everything.. nothing by GH gets better.. so quit saying it does.
James! Reply:
August 16th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
Yes, it’s still winning. Because in addition to those three tracks are No More Mr. Nice Guy, Children of the Grave, Burnin’ for You, Money for Nothing, Free Ride, Move It on Over, Black Widow of La Porte, Jet City Woman, Lunatic Fringe, 2112, and Deep Purple’s Burn. Note the ratio – for every live song in the game, I just named four incredible songs. And that’s only a small selection of the setlist.
Furthermore, one of those live songs is “Call Me the Breeze,” a song which is as badass live as the studio recording.

Why do we argue about set lists? It’s completely personal preference. If they released a Guitar Hero: Toilet or Urinal: Rock Band, people would still argue that the flush of one is better than the other or that the charting is better on one than on the other. Rock Band has some good songs and Guitar Hero has some good songs. Can’t we just play what we like and let other people play what they like? People have clearly made up their minds (and here’s where someone says that they’re still not buying it until an obscure band like Finley Quaye is on it or something). Yes, there are duplicates on BOTH sides of the fences. Since both games have different features/instruments/etc., it DOESN’T MATTER if the song is a duplicate, because it’s being played with a different feature set, and thus offers a completely different experience than its competitor. When it comes down to RB3, GH6, or PowerGig, if you like it, buy it. If not, and the other guy does, let him enjoy it. You can continue to argue about the quality of the setlists, but its pointless because no one is ever going to convince you that their personal preference is better than yours.

not really digging how the setlist is turning out to be, but hey there’s still a few more tracks to be announced.
Right, something like half of the tracks still have yet to be announced. I’m sure there are still some big surprises up HMX’s sleeves…
There’s nothing that gets me really excited about the setlist for now… Anyway, I can’t always have what I want!
I hope the dlc songs stay good or get better because I know that I am only going to play a few of the disc songs once. But since I have a ton of dlc and exported Green Day, Lego, and RB:1s songs I shouldn’t worry about getting angry with songs I don’t like. Also isn’t RB:2 getting it’s songs set up for export?
I don’t completely dislike the setlist but we need more modern popular rock. Maybe some Foo fighters or some weezer. We haven’t got any Red hot chili peppers in awhile ethier. Oh and maybe some nirvana songs from in utero. Mgmt even would be good.
I’m digging the Tokio Hotel Humanoid song. It’s quite cool.
The setlist just keeps getting better and better. There’s only one thing that could make it perfect and that would be Stan Bush’s The Touch.
Need You Tonight will be fun to woo the ladies with.
More HIM. Sweet. I suspected there was a RB3 song in there since the 3 pack came out of nowhere. Hopefully we can get more DLC with a bit more variety.
Du Hast. Groovy. No more people asking for it at parties. Now all we need is Superstition and all the GH5 tracks I want we have.
Maná. Finally.
The Look, War and Bob Marley & The Wailers? Thanks HMX.
The rest I need to check out, the titles sound familiar.

I LOVE Rock Band. LOVE IT. That being said, I agree with the people that say that RB3′s set list is turning out to be a little… Weak. I mean, yeah, they have a lot of flavors in it and that’s good, but its almost as if they are forgetting what made Guitar Hero 1 and 2 so fun: Rock. I don’t mean Pop-Rock or today’s garbage Rock. I mean Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, bands that Guitar Hero 6 already has on board.
I look at the GH6 list and I get a hard-on. Deep Purple’s Burn!? That’s DP’s greatest song, it has great drums, guitars, vocals and keyboards and for some reason it’s nowhere to be seen in RB3. I know that Viacom is a business and they might be forcing MTVG and HMX to build a “mainstream” list just to push sales higher. But aside from Bohemian Rhapsody, Rainbow in the Dark and Crazy Train, I don’t see anything that would be FUN to play on guitar. It’s all a random collection of songs and it feels like HMX is hoping to please everyone with it, something that is clearly NEVER gonna happen.
