Throwback Thursday DLC Pick: Bang Camaro – Rock Rebellion

This week’s Throwback Thursday DLC track is one from Harmonix’s most well known bands, Bang Camaro. To date, they have released five total songs on the Rock Band Network, including holding the highest selling track, “Push Push (Lady Lightning),” for quite some time.

The thing is, many people out there may have accidentally missed the fact that they had an official DLC track released in the past. Their track “Rock Rebellion” is on their self-titled album, and was released as DLC way back in April of 2008 as part of the Harmonix pack (which also included the bands Count Zero and Freezepop). The guitar and bass both have the highest difficulty rating available, however it may not be as hard as you expect when looking at the video below.

Check out the full band gameplay video below, courtesy of @HeyRiles!

The song can be purchased in the Rock Band 2 music store, or online at Xbox.com, for only 80 MSP ($.99).

Great choice. I can remember this being the song that finally made me get their album. It’s also the one I managed to rope a bunch of people into singing at PAX East which was crazy but also lots of fun.

I remember buying the OXM magazine with the disc that had these songs on it.
It was the best 10 dollars I spent on “Exclusive” DLC right up until they mass released the pack for 3 dollars two months later.
Shame was dealt out like cards at a poker game that day.

I bought this with the OXM as well. Don’t regret it one bit.

I still always sense intense exaggeration with the guitar chart. Just because the solo has a quick part, doesn’t make it 6/6, Harmonix… I believe that song is about a 4/6, but no matter. Either way, It’s not overly difficult.

    Awesome choice. Great song!

Major props to both my brothers for their great work at playing guitar and drums in a full band

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only person in the world who hates Bang Camaro. Every time they’re mentioned in an article or post, it seems like everyone has a collective orgasm.

I LOVE classic rock, and it’s admirable that they’re going for that sound, but the whole gang vocals thing just doesn’t do it for me, and ever since I noticed that they used plural pronouns in Night Lies (like “we” and “us”), they’ve never rubbed me the right way.

    Ospero Reply:

That last sentence has got to contain the weirdest reason I’ve ever seen to dislike a band. They use plural pronouns, so they’re bad? Dislike Queen much for We Are the Champions or We Will Rock You?

On-topic: I like that song. I don’t necessarily think Bang Camaro is the greatest band EVARR, and some of their songs are decidedly less fun to play than this, but that doesn’t detract from Rock Rebellion. Fun guitar chart and also not a bad bass chart, though both are horrendously overtiered. That is not a devil-head level guitar, and the bass is, if anything, even easier.

    Steven Reply:

Sorry, I should re-phrase – using plural pronouns in ALL of their songs (as I’ve realized since I last commented) is too self-referential of the fact that they’ve got so many vocalists, and it makes the shtick seem that much more “shtickier.” I can’t help but imagining this gang of guys surrounding a girl at a bar talking about how they’re ALL going to make love to her, and it weirds me out.

So the reason those two Queen songs are okay is because they’re written to be taken in the context of a team/group, and to build morale, etc. The plural pronouns are appropriate for the content. Can you imagine if it were “I Am the Champion” or “I Will Rock You”? Loses some effect there, doesn’t it?

Though the rest of the song is pretty fun, I always hate the undercharted drum roll in the beginning XD I just feel like a douche if I’m playing drums. Good pick, though.
