Preview of Pro-Drums in Legacy DLC

The song “Toxicity” by System of a Down was released for Rock Band as DLC on August of 2008, prior to the release of Rock Band 2. But those schemers at Harmonix already knew where they were taking the franchise, and even then had been authoring Pro-Drums charting into the DLC. Below is a sample of the song being played recently at the San Diego Comic-Con by Darren from the 2010 Total Rock, Total Rewards winning team ROFL MAO, as well as from RBN band Audio Fiction!

For reference, here’s a link to video of the existing drum charts.

    Gotta love those chops!

awesome! This confirms something a friend of mine from an RBN charting group that I’ll leave unnamed said, that Harmonix has actually been charting pro drums since around the Mayhem Pack way back when.

    *since Roadrunner Pack.

I was under the impression that all old RB stuff will have pro drums because it’s pulling the information from the drummer animation.
That’s why there won’t be any pro guitar for old stuff. They weren’t exactly mapping finger positions in the animation files.

    Hines Reply:

Actually, I’ve noticed on some songs that the avatars do play the song, or pretty close to it.

    non_zero Reply:

No, they actually have a separate marker for pro drums since the drummer animation map isn’t always reliable.

They’ve been charting it sine the metallica pack back in rb1 haha

Currently hoping beyond hope that Harmonix somehow makes it so I can play keyboards on Panic Attack.

    The1andonlybigh Reply:

If they dont’ chart it, you can still play Panic Attack on keys. The MIDI Keyboard will work on guitar charts. Non pro mode that is. Vise Versa with using a guitar to play the Non Pro Mode keys chart. I know that isn’t what you meant but if it isn’t charted, thats as close as it will come.

  • Folkeye says:

I always thought they were hoping for cymbal expansions and knew they’d eventually get them. So it was the ‘for the future expansion just in case chart’.

  • Folkeye says:

Okay, just watched the video… is the singer warming up for his swim lesson or swatting flies?

  • lunatic says:

i had no idea this was going on. really awesome idea. i think charting in keyboard is too much to ask for any songs prior to 10/26/10. it would be great though. what’s Legacy?

    lunatic Reply:

    also, that’s a hot picture up top…

    BassFuzz Reply:

Since Harmonix brought in Pro mode, there are now two charts for songs. Pro is often referred as such, while the old GRYBO charts are referred to as legacy. Since old DlC songs(as we previously thought,) are (mostly) only GRYBO charts, it is considered Legacy DLC

    non_zero Reply:

Legacy in general means something that was designed for an older system.

  • Tufty McTavish says:

What about RBN DLC? Does that stuff chart for Pro drums or is it Harmonix DLC only at this time? A chap earlier in this thread mentioned RBN but only Harmonix in relation to Pro charting.

    non_zero Reply:

They told us how to add pro drums to our charts shortly after pro drums was announced, but no RBN songs before they told us will have pro drums, and that includes the first ~350 RBN songs. Sucks.

  • WesJ says:

For RBN material, Authored didn’t know pro notes could be authored until about a month ago so some of the earlier RBN charts won’t have them, and even still they are optional now.

All RGS material from about a month ago forward is being pro charted for drums.

  • goronhead says:

Just to be clear, are you saying that all DLC (from at least toxicity on) are going to have pro mode already built in?

  • WesJ says:

Also for future reference, I shouldn’t post when tired heh.

  • PaulTMD452 says:

For being so good, he doesn’t have any confidence in his movements. He looks about as comfortable playing the drums as I must.

Anyway, nice to see that this goes back so far. I was worried it would be a bit more recent that they started this.

    non_zero Reply:

He’s probably in that in-between stage where you have the ability to hit things but you have to think really hard about it, with experience your movements become more natural.

    PaulTMD452 Reply:

Except that he’s part of the Total Rock Total Rewards championship band. He SHOULD be past that stage at this point, one would think

Its already said that the entire back catalog (Non RBN) has Pro Drum charts. See 3:15

A quick and perhaps stupid question:

Will double bass be charted on pro drums?

    Whizzer Reply:

No, nothing will change from the current situation, concerning double bass. You can use double bass, but it’s not charted.

Any word on how far back this goes?
