Swag Week on RockBandAide!
As you are full aware, I attended E3 earlier this summer. Super amazing Rock Band 3 awesomeness aside, the fine folks at Harmonix (mostly @thebeststeph, who truly is the BEST) grabbed me a whole bunch of swag before I left to give away here on the site. While the giveaways were not the highest on my priority list, this is FAR later than I ever wanted to give out some of this stuff, and I humbly apologize.
Now, party because I’m lazy and partly because I want fan participation here (who am I kidding, it’s ALL because I’m lazy), I figured the first giveaway will be based on finding the best contest ideas for the remainder of the week. I have essentially TEN different items to giveaway, so anyone saying they NEVER win anything should see higher odds than in the past.
Here’s what I’ve got in total:
- FOUR THREE white Rock Band 3 shirts (all Smalls)
- THREE
TWOONE black Rock Band 3 shirt, that I believe sayS PRO on the back (again, all Smalls) - ONE Rock Band “Griffin” shirt (Medium)
ONE Rock Band “Flying Skull” boxers (Large)- ONE Rock Band “Flying Skull” boxers (Medium)
- Codes for redeemable credit for DLC (
FIVETHREE for the PS3, THREE TWO ONE for Xbox 360)
I apologize in advance that many of the shirt sizes are smaller, but beggars can’t be choosers. Since there’s a large volume of giveaways, I’m unfortunately restricting this to US only (since I’m shipping all this stuff at my expense). I’ll have more giveaways in the future that will be country neutral.
I’ll choose the person with the best contest idea that I will use randomly throughout the week and let them choose an item from above, and I’ll also throw in a DLC code for their system (while supplies last). I’ll choose a winner around 8:00 PM (Central) tonight, so don’t wait! Enter as often as you like, but quantity is not the name of the game in something like this. (Neither is “Give it to me!”)
OK, so with that out of the way, how should I decide to give this stuff away?

How about an FC contest? The most impressive FC’s on each instrument will win a prize.
With the new addition to the setlist for rb3 how about we send a funny pic of a member in a band from rb3. The funniest pics win.
Hmmm, what if you base it on rock trivia and whoever answers the quickest wins a prize?
i love trivia so hows about some trivia questions?
Show a brief segment of a notechart and try to have people guess the song.

I like this too, kind of like name that tune
I think about a quiz, and who answers the most questions right, wins the stuff, if there are more winners, you should pick one.
Same way that Harmonix decided to reveal their new RB3 songs =)
You should do some “Guess the DLC song” trivia contests. You can give a clue about the DLC song like…. “This Police track was the first to hit DLC way back in 2008″ or something like that.
Also you could do a random thing where you ask people what DLC song they want to come out in the future, and then randomly pick one of the posts
What do you think?
I would like to see some kind of creativity website. Perhaps using Rock Band 2′s character creator or emblem or tattoo creator.
How do you plan on spending your time until RB3?
Funniest/most interesting answer wins.

Another one I just thought of: what songs we think should be in RB3, either on-disc or as DLC.
Rock Band 3 setlist BINGO!!!
How about trivia about harmonix the studio and all of thier works?
Think of a random artist in Rock Band. Then the first person to guess the artists based off clues every hour or so wins.
People should record (audio, but preferably video) themselves doing a version of a RB3 song (since the setlist was semi-confirmed over SDCC) then send it in. Kind of like, “auditioning” for swag. Or a Rock Band. Your choice. =P
Ask a question on twitter and have people respond using hashtags (yours and RB3). Set a cutoff time and use random.org to chose which response. The questions can relate to RB3 – Favorite song announced, fave instrument, fave feature, etc.
How about creating battle of the bands challenges or interesting/challenging achievement setlists for RB3 with awesome or funny names?
How about, a video of the weirdest way to play a Rock Band instrument? Something like drumming with their feet or strumming with a shoulder. They’d have to be doing semi-well on the song, of course.
Well since twitter, trivia and FCs have already been mentioned I would think how bout.Whoever can make the best picture using rockband elements such as notes highways,rb2 art n instruments if all else fails there is always a guitar or band duel tournament tht could be made
Wouldn’t it be cool to have a contest based around Rock Band library trivia? Test your knowledge of the songs already released (RBN included) with trivia either through twitter on a question by question basis or through a post on the website with a “first person to answer all 10 gets the prize.” Then you could have it in like 4 parts: RBN, DLC, Foo Fighters, and RB3 setlist. What do you think?
I would call it: Are you a real RockBand fan?. This is a trivia where you guess the artist/title from a bit of a song and when was released as a DLC.
My only idea that has yet to be suggested would be for you to post 3 or 4 letters via twitter and the first person to list an artist and a song (by that artist) for each letter wins that prize
Since a lot of the prizes are clothing, have a contest where people design Rock Band shirts, shorts or other clothing. Post the pics on here and whichever ones you like win.

Also, this could be online using a template or using real shirts and clothing.
How about best band names?
My idea is to have people create their own remainder of the Rock Band 3 setlist (besides the ones that were OFFICIALLY announced). They have to fill in which songs they think will be on the final list. When the final setlist is revealed, the person with the most correct songs that match up to the final official list wins. Sudden death would occur if there’s the same amount of correct songs on two different people’s list. In that case, you would judge based on how many artists they guessed correctly, not dependent on the song choices. I have a feeling that a contest like this would evoke lots of creativity and speculation, and more educated guesses rather than wishlists to be created.

You know what would make this idea more awesome? If it were in BINGO form.

Well I think there would be a very slim chance in picking 5 songs correctly that some how line up together like in bingo. Idk, that sounds a bit harder for multiple people to win. I don’t think 10 people would end up getting bingo.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot there would be more than one winner. Since there’s ten prizes, The winners would be picked based on how many song choices they got right. For example if the highest amount of songs guessed correctly was 20, then they get to pick their prize first. If the second most amount of correct guesses was 18, than that person gets to pick their prize second, etc.
Using the names of the songs for one DLC week, write the most interesting sentence(s) with mostly just the names. A few other words (in, the, at, etc.) can be used to connect the song names.
I would go with something like, here’s a random song, if you can beat this score I just set, this difficulty, this instrument, in the next hour, you win. And whoever posts the picture of the highest score filling all the requirements with some sort of proof (like a piece of paper saying RBA, for example) takes it.
One of the contests should be to find the song with the most rediculose piano solo.
I know you’re trying to do community stuff but I got an idea. What if you partnered with one of the RBN authoring groups and had a Battle of the Bands? Get a bunch of bands to enter and each week we can vote on two bands, knock ‘em out tournament style, and the best band can get three songs authored onto RBN for free?
Just a random thought that has nothing to do with anything. Unless someone else can tie in communal prizes with it.
This is a classic one. Take a random RB related picture(such as one of these: http://www.rockband.com/files/rb/2010/06/100611rb3_screen_wlogo1.jpg
http://www.thebeatlesrockband.com/images/press/large/rubbersoul_dlc/NoHUD-Michelle.jpg
And have people come up with the funniest/best caption or word bubble or something for the picture. Obviously, it doesn’t have to be one of these two pictures. Those are just examples.
Or another idea, have people make their own RB3 trailers using any footage we already have and see who can make the best one.
You could also do a scavenger hunt type game in which you give a list of clues for a list of bands you select from across the entire Rock Band platform (ex. history of the band, lyrics, facts, etc). Whoever posts the correct list of bands you gave clues to in the comments section of the contest post first wins.
Justify your song!
Pick a single song that is not on RB and write a
paragraph(6 to 12 lines) about why this song should be added.
Best answer gets 2 shirts and DLC.
2nd best gets a shirt and DLC.
Honorable mentions get a shirt.
Or just song title Haikus.
5,7,5 format
Or another picture related contest. Use photoshop to see who can come up with the funniest RB3 picture (using in-game RB screenshots, not real-life ones).
The most Wacky thing you can do while playing Rock Band without failing the song.
I gave this suggestion to Cena for one of his shirts he was gonna give away, and he thought this wasn’t a bad idea.
Since RB3 is introducing a whole new instrument to play, I thought that it would be a good idea to show off some keyboard or piano skills. The people who have the most impressive skills, whether they use an existing song or have their own, should win the goods.
How about a music video (using rock band songs/instruments) contest?
Most creative, diverse, unique etc.. wins?
How about a contest where to win they must pitch their best Rock Band Setlist (can’t be songs that are already on the game) and then people vote to pick the best setlist. The limit of songs on the setlist is 80-85.
I think it should be whoever can make the best representation of an artist using the character creator in RB2.
Have a contest to see who or which band can dress the best for a decade of music in rock band that you specify. 60′s, 70′s, 80′s, 90′s or 00′s
Maybe a contest about guessing wich’ll be the new DLC for next week or a song in the RB3 setlist…
Or just a RockBand trivia xD
A photo contest of people dressed up for their Rock Band jam session.
Look, there is only one viable solution to giving out swag.
Battle Royal.
You could pick a song from this week’s DLC and challenge people to a score playoff, with a different prize for each instrument. Give the highest score for each instrument a prize, and maybe the second places a prize too if you’re feeling generous.
I also second the design-a-shirt contest. That may just be because I’ve designed a lot of shirts though >.>
There should be a YouTube karaoke contest with any RockBand song (RB1, RB2, RB3, LEGO, Beatles, GD, DLC, RBN) and chose two winners within different categories, like funniest, best sung, originality, presentation and most views.
Another contest idea could incorporate Twitter or Facebook.
For example, for Twitter, the top people who tweet and have followers to retweet a tweet mentioning a song and RockBand 3 and having them become one of the trending subjects. Have the first 83 (or 30 people, depending when the contest is and how many songs are officially revealed by then) chose a song (first pick gets the song) and then begin. First people to get their song and RockBand 3 to become popular to the masses wins the prize.
The same idea can be used for Facebook, but make it a “Like” page or a group page to get the most likes or friends or group members.
Whoever makes the coolest Rock Band performance video.
E-mail addresses and a hat? No need to be more complicated than that!
a rock band game about who knows the most about songs and dlc and bands on rock band
Photo contest! The best photo of one of the pre-existing RB2 characters (Moosejaw, Mothership Q, Heather Moonbeam) gets a prize. One for boys, and one for girls
If you want to be specific, the best Dora Sullivan lookalike gets a prize, and the best Duke of Gravity lookalike gets a prize

Since…y’know…cosplay goes right hand-in-hand with Comic-Con, right?
You could ask people to suggest their 5 preferred songs for inclusion on the RB3 setlist…OR even better… Ask people to submit the 5 WORST possible song choices for inclusion on the RB3 setlist; the most over-the-top, self-indulgent, piece of crap playlist a twisted mind could come up with. =)
Although this idea is probably beaten to death, how about a “guess this song from this section” contest? You have a video of a certain section of a song (if you wanted to do songs in RB3, that’d be a great idea), with no audio, and people have to guess the song based off of this information. I’d imagine that since there’s a sheerly massive amount of songs from RB2 DLC that people probably have, as long as you don’t pick the too obscure ones, you should be good, if you decide to use RB2 DLC.
Maybe you can have people send videos of themselves playing songs from the RB3 setlist on real instruments. Best performance wins.

Seems very unfair for those who really don’t have $ to afford a real instrument

Don’t worry. It will be something that everyone has an relatively equal chance. You won’t need video-capture equipment to win a t-shirt or pair of boxers. Cool ideas, but some are overkill.
