Rock Band 3 Keys Wishlist
I’m Josh and I’ll be covering the “Keys” content on RockBandAide. As a Rock Band enthusiast, I thought that the idea of adding keyboard support was a joke. I was very skeptical at first because, as a musician myself, I couldn’t see Rock Band taking that next step to actually teach its players about playing “real” music. It’s one thing to have a fully functional guitar that plays every note within a music game; it’s a totally different story to have a keyboard. If you learn how to play music on a keyboard or piano, you can pretty much pick up any instrument and learn it in no time. Keyboards and pianos have been fused into rock music for decades and now they will be joined in music video game matrimony in Rock Band 3.
Well, in anticipation of Keys showing up in Rock Band 3, here is my wish list for Keyboard/Piano songs in Rock Band 3 and DLC. Feel free to comment on my selection or add your own contributions in the comments below.
Motley Crue – “Home Sweet Home”
Billy Joel – “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)”
Ben Folds – “Rockin’ the Suburbs”
Hall & Oates – “You Make My Dreams”
Elton John – “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting)”
Ben Folds Five – “Song for the Dumped”
Cobra Starship – “Guilty Pleasure”
Coldplay – “Clocks”
Train – “Drops of Jupiter”
Honorable Mentions:
- Adult rock artists: Keane, The Fray, Five For Fighting
- Mates of State: “Fraud in the 80′s”, “Get Better”
- Matt & Kim: “Daylight”
- The National: “Fake Empire”
- Sara Bareilles: “Vegas”, “Love Song”
- Scissor Sisters: “Take Your Mama”, “I Can’t Decide”
- Talking Heads: “Wild Wild Life”

I FUCKING LOVE KEANE
Can we just convert some of the DLC that currently has you playing the keyboard as guitar notes…like the Lady Gaga and Queen tracks? Those would be another great start.
Interesting list, and far more skewed to the modern than I would have expected.
I’m personally more psyched to sing a song by The National than play it on keys, but that is a pretty good selection.
Needs more Journey =P
I must say that Elton John track is a whole lot better than the terrible Chad Kroeger cover I heard a few years back.

Journey should have their own “Pro” DLC Pack released. Re-release Don’t Stop Believin’ w/ keyboard support and add all the new features of Rock Band 3 to their best songs.
Journey – Separate Ways. This song absolutely needs to be in RB3.

or ask the lonely would be awesome
The day Cobra Starship makes it into Rock Band is the day I pledge my undying loyalty to Harmonix. I can only hope they make it happen.

I think there’s a whole sub-genre of modern music that isn’t represented in Rock Band. I’d love to see more DLC from bands like Cobra Starship and Motion City Soundtrack which feature synthesizers!

+1 to MCS. A good handful of their songs would be insane on drums.
Drops of Jupiter, wow I haven’t heard that since I was in High School. Completely forgot it had keyboard!
Iron Butterfly’s “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”, and it wouldn’t get repetitive at all…
More Billy Joel.
The first song I thought of when I saw the tweet was “Home Sweet Home”. I’m glad it was the first you seem to have thought of as well.

I’ve become a HUGE fan of the song since Hot Tub Time Machine came out. I think it would be perfect for RB3!
Liked this list a lot (especially “You Make My Dreams Come True”), but I would get rid of “Movin’ Out” and replace it with “Angry Young Man”
It’ll be a fucking catastrophe if RB3 ships without any Ben Folds in the base game. I’d be thrilled to see something like “One Angry Dwarf” or “Rockin’ the Suburbs”.
I would love this Elliott Smith song!
“Everything Means Nothing To Me” nice piano parts
Agreed!
You couldn’t find a Hall and Oates video without Keyboard cat? (Hey maybe he should be a playble avatar in RB3.)
Some of my suggestions would be “I Just Died in Your Arms Tonight” by Cutting Crew and “Hold the Line” by Toto.
What would really be amazing though, is some European power/symphonic metal – Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Within Temptaiton, Stratovarius, etc.
One song I reckon could work very well (and go in the Neverending Epic Songs category at over 8 minutes) is LCD Soundsystem’s Us vs. Them. First heard it on Burnout Paradise, and I’d say it’s got the works in terms of instruments.

Personally, if this one were to be released, I’d be a very happy camper. Not going to say I’d never request anything again (Crowded House plzkthxbai), but I’d be quieter for a bit
Talking Heads: “Wild Wild Life”
this doesn’t have the greatest of keyboard parts…..however, i would be happy with any talking heads song…..i’m hoping for a live version of talking heads songs though, please have a listen guys! absolutely great keys/vocals/guitar parts! very sad they used the studio versions……when they missed out on “stop making sense” live versions ;(
Styx – Lady or Come Sail Away
Outcast – Hey Ya!
Ray Charles – What I Say

Yes and yes to these Styx songs. Both would be great for parties, too.
Anything from The Hold Steady, but preferably “Chips Ahoy” or “Ask Her for Adderall”

I was trying to figure out which Hold Steady song would be best for RB3…I think now that they are a RBN artist they will most certainly be featured in future (whenever that is) RB3 DLC
House of the Rising Sun – Animals
Cars – Gary Numan
Great Balls of Fire – Jerry Lee Lewis
Pink Floyd – The Great Gig in the Sky

LOL! I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want to suffer most vocalists attempting THAT one!
Fingers crossed for any Tears for Fears material. “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and “Shout” would be the obvious choices.
Yes! Finally someone wants Clocks by Coldplay in this game! It would be beyond perfect for rock band 3.
If Motion City Soundtrack ever ends up in Rock Band I will cry a single tear of pure joy, let the moog stands commence!
I would have picked Fix You over Clocks, but Clocks could be alright.
Doobie Brothers – China Grove
Journey – Lights
Hall & Oates – Kiss On My List
Steppenwolf – Born To Be Wild
The Raconteurs – Level
Depeche Mode – Dream On
Joe Cocker – Feelin’ Alright
The Killers – Somebody Told Me
King Harvest – Dancing In The Moonlight
Lee Michaels – Do You Know What I Mean
Todd Rundgren – I Saw The Light

Jamiroqui – Little L
N*E*R*D* – Things Are Getting Better
Ozzy Osbourne – Mr. Crowley
Pat Benatar – Love Is A Battlefield
Rick James – Give It To Me Baby
The Doors – Break On Through
A bunch of no brainers and some gems, but there are a ton more.

Somebody Told Me would make sense for RB3 – it’s probably the biggest Killers request, they were on RB1, and have had DLC as well.
Good call on Ben Folds I’d love to have a go at Landed or Brick as well as the others already mentioned and many more. Start the petition here and now.
It’s funny how many doors are opened by the inclusion of keys in Rock Band. Here’s some of the ones I want to see included – some of these will be repeats, but just add my voice to those calling for these songs:
Toto – Africa
Toto – Hold the Line
Styx – Come Sail Away
Styx – Mr. Roboto
Hall & Oates – You Make My Dreams
Journey – Separate Ways
Muse – Map of the Problematique
Bon Jovi – Runaway
Van Halen – Jump
The Police – King of Pain
The Police – Wrapped Around Your Finger
Wings – Live & Let Die
Anything by Motion City Soundtrack or October Fall, but I’m not sure how many people would know them
I know there are tons more, but I’m drawing a blank right now.

wait smooth definetly has keys.
Dream Theater, particularly “Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper”.
My only real fear with any Dream Theater tracks is that the keyboard solos might be a bit too insane, but then again, Roundabout is confirmed and has a wicked keyboard part…
We need some Pink floyd and Deep Purple. They would be perfect. Maybe even Smoke on the Water….
Oh and no Coldplay. Never.
uummm where is imagine? thats the perfect piano song, I’m sure there’s plenty of people who’d just wanna pick up RB3 to learn of to play bohemian rhapsody, it’ll be the same if they add imagine, it’s one of those selling point songs.
I Don’t Like Mondays by The Boomtown Rats
NOVEMBER RAIN- Guns & Roses
They need to put Pink Floyd in.
Chocolate Rain
Jethro Tull – Locomotive Breath
Rock Band 5 will have pan flutes!
The complete Rainbow “Rising” album… need I say more??
Dream Theater.
No, all of it.
Frost* – Milliontown
Aerosmith – Dream On

Radiohead – Pyramid Song
Supertramp – It’s Raining Again
Axis of Awesome – 4 Four Chord Song

If anybody said it, I missed it, and I can’t believe nobody said it yet – NOVEMBER RAIN!

wow i’m behind the times… hope they do update at least some of the more popular songs
You get awesome points for mentioning Matt and Kim- Daylight. I think it would be an awesome addition to the game. And I’m not even the biggest fan of them. only know that song by them.
I also agree on Hall and Oates and Elton John. Billy Joel works well too, but either piano man or only the good die young would be bigger hits at parties, I think.
I can’t believe nobody has mentioned the ULTIMATE full band with keys song… Warren Zevon – Werewolves of London. Epic keys, Epic guitar AND you get to howl… what can be better?
The only song that comes to mind would be Vienea-Billy Joel.
Rockin’ the suburbs would make the most sense (on disk). I don’t think Ben Folds uses a guitar for many tracks, so DLC would be the best option.
As far as Ben Folds RB3/DLC I would love to see.
Bastard
Selfless, cold Compossed
Mess
You Don’t know me (duet with regina spektor)
Battle of who cared less
Satan is my Master (ok…this might not go over well, but is completely awesome and cracks me up every time I hear it)
Supertramp – Bloody Well Right
I sure would love me some Muse now, with keys being added.
Just think of how amazing it would feel to be able to start playing New Born on keys and vocals, then switching to guitar and vocals after the intro.
Or just playing keys on Butterflies and Hurricanes.
Or Sunburn.
Or Space Dementia.
I want Origin of Symmetry full album DLC the week of RB3′s launch. Just Sayin’.
