Friday Giveaway!

OK, we’re going to try this out, and hopefully it works well.

Here’s what I was thinking. Some weeks prizes may be bigger than others; some weeks may not have prizes at all.  I’ll ask a question, and I’ll open up the comments so people can put their answers. Each answer is an entry into the giveaway. Only one answer/entry per person, please! I’ll try and put up the giveaway shortly after noon (Central time) on Friday, and you’ll have most of the weekend to answer. I’ll choose a winner after 8:00 PM (again Central time) on Sunday night.  Make sure to include your email address (I guarantee I’m not a spammer or whatever), because the winner will be contacted via email Sunday night or Monday.  For some questions, it will just be a random winner (for example, favorite DLC?), but other questions will have winners based on the best answer.

Oh, and since I’ll be shipping said prizes at my own expense, I’m only going to ship to the lower 48 states (sorry Hawaii and Alaska). If it’s something I can send via email (codes for downloads or points), then I’ll open it up to everyone (worldwide, provided you’ll be able to use whatever the prize is).

Last thing… please no complaining! I’m doing this for the community because it’s fun for me, and if that’s ruined, then boo on you.  If I’m missing anything, I’ll post an update here in bold.  Again, as this is coming out of my own pocket, I reserve the right to change the “rules” at anytime.  So… on to the show…

Here’s what I got for this week. I’m giving away this lovely pair of Rock Band Sleep Pants, male size large.

Sleep Pants

To be eligible for the prize (read the “fine print” above), I’ll start with an easy question.

What DLC track currently available do you think is the most underrated?  Not your favorite, but the one track that you think most people pass over quickly and shouldn’t be.  (So I shouldn’t be seeing anyone posting Don’t Stop Believing!)

OK, good luck! Comments are open!

UPDATE: Congratulations go out to evil_bat_witch on Twitter! Thanks everyone for entering! I will definitely be having more contests in the future!

First! Just had to get that out of the way! I’m allowed to do that!

  • Lots of Grateful Dead tracks play great for the whole band, but people write them off as stoner zone-out music. My favorite’s “Sugar Magnolia” and deserves more downloads!

  • Troggy1780 says:

Breaking the Girl — not only is it and awesome song, but both the guitar and drum tracks are by far some of the most fun to play.

  • Kyle (thunder121) says:

    LOl, canadian, but w/ev.

Best song that people ALWAYS pass over is Are You Dead Yet? (in my experiences)

  • S1ckH4nds says:

    FIRST aw crap ;_;

Underrated? I think probably “Hard To Handle” would fit that bill. It often gets overlooked because it’s one of the few cover tracks available as DLC, but in all reality, it’s very enjoyable on just about every instrument. Really fun guitar and bass lines, a good drum pattern that’s not too punishingly difficult, and vocals that just about anyone should be able to pick up and sing without much trouble.

  • Diaryofaraider says:

Creeping’ Up The Backstairs – The Fratellis is an insanely catchy song with excellent charts all around, but no one seems to notice it. Ah well!

  • dxbrbnk says:

I say ‘Young’ (from the 20 free tracks DLC pack)

  • Chelsea says:

    Pleymo – New Wave

It’s so fun to play and you have NO IDEA what he’s singing, so it makes for good drunken Rock Band nights!

  • pl0rk says:

Very cool that you’re doing this. I need something new and light to sleep in so I might as well chime in, hehe.

Elvis Costello – Radio Radio. A song against radio and the mainstream, that became an anthem for radio and very mainstream, and now is sold for a video game. It just cracks me up. I’m a huge Elvis Costello fan and would love for a big pack of his songs to be released at some point, but until then I’ll just settle for Pump It Up and Radio Radio.

Runner up, Phish’s Wilson. They could have picked sooo many better songs to do, but whatever. Phish is on Rock Band!!!

  • pl0rk says:

Poop, misspelled my own email above. I was too busy thinking about how good I’d look in those fancy short pants.

  • Ibbored says:

I’m not certain how underrated it is, but I don’t hear it talked about too much and I’m a big fan of Hysteria by Muse. Tricky drums, pretty decent guitar, ridiculous bassline, and even though its low difficulty rating I have trouble with the vocals on this one too. It’s hard enough to be a challenge without being ridiculous and tiring plus its just a generally fun sounding song.

  • EinsteinSL says:

Mine would be electric crown by testament. Great bass, great guitar, great (read: tough on your right hand) drums, and i love to sing testament songs :D

  • mantis23 says:

Spongebob Squarepants – Can’t keep my eyes off of you.

People don’t give it serious consideration because, well, it’s Spongebob. But, if you can look past the fact that it’s from a cartoon, it’s a blast to play on guitar and hands down the most fun guitar solo in the game.

  • Mr. Bungle says:

Jesus Christ Pose by Soundgarden. One of the best songs on the marketplace right now. Wishing there were more old school Soundgarden songs available! Need more Badmotorfinger and Superunknown songs ASAP!!! :)

  • Saiko Sakura says:

“Creeping Up the Backstairs” by The Fratellis
I’m with Diaryofaraider on this one. The Fratellis pack is amazing on every instrument but no one dares touch it with a ten foot pole. The songs are upbeat, and catchy but still challenging. I’ve recommended this pack to many people and have had zero complaints. <3

  • xplummerx says:

“Two Weeks” by All That Remains

Part of one of the sweetest packs to be offered…we don’t get too much metalcore on here, probably due to the screamed vocals. Although a heavier song, this one is a fun one to sing…tricky vocal delivery on the chorus. The guitar part is all over the place and is constantly moving…tons of fun.

Can’t wait to get a new track from Underoath next week!

  • Jonspach says:

“We Care A Lot” by Faith No More.

I love playing it on every instrument. It’s got a nice sort of funk-out rhythm but it doesn’t get boring because of the way they change it up – catchy chorus + Transformers & Garbage Pail Kids references = win.

  • HazyCloud says:

I’d have to go with “Why do you love me” by Garbage.

  • Tony Ryan says:

    Better (Guns n roses)
    It’s an awesome track.
I’m from the Uk by the way ;)

  • Evil Bat Witch says:

I also vote for all the Fratellis songs. Scottish punk FTW. well, Any punk, really.

  • SynysterKobra says:

    Social Distortion pack…
No one seems to buy it because of Story of My Life

  • Kolma says:

My favourite underdog Song would have to be
Leslie Roy – “Im Gone, I’m Going”

overall a great fun song on Drums, Singing really all the instruments
also means stuff to me as got RB2(along with 20 bonus songs which includes this one) right after moving away from all of my family in NY, to live with my GF in Florida. so it relates very well :D

  • Momo says:

Mine would probably be I’m gone, I’m going by Lesley Roy. Her vocals are great and all parts of song are catchy. The game itself needs more songs from artists such as her

  • I’d say the Duran Duran pair (Rio and Girls on Film) are really underrated.

The jazz beats are an absolute blast on bass, the discobeats are fun to play on drums, the guitar is rarely boring, and they truly shine on vocals. Besides, Rio has a freaking saxophone solo!

Also, I second the Fratellis comments above, solid stuff!

  • Steven J says:

I always thought Moonage Daydream… it’s really easy but I play it literally everytime I sit down for a session.

  • Kevin H says:

I think that the Nikko tracks have been underrated by many a player. I think the drums are my favorite part of both of them, but they’re all around good! Definitely worth the total of 180msPoints.

  • For underrated, I’d have to definitely say Hammerhead on Guitar. It always seems to fall to the way side since it’s *new* Offspring, but it’s hella fun. Really gets you rockin, haha.

  • Vincent R says:

Oh man, definitely TV on the Radio’s “Wolf Like Me”. It only came out a couple of weeks ago, but opposed to the other tracks from the pack, I haven’t seen anyone else with it! It’s a trip!

  • SebastianSB says:

    “Hey” by the Pixies

The mournful guitar and the sad lyrics really explore music as an art form. It’s not the most fun thing to play in the game but if you let yourself get sucked in it’s a really unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else in the game. I dual-weild this on guitar + vocals all the time.

  • Nathan Gross says:

My choice would be whatever has been out the longest, but has sold the least. The point being, all of the DLC in Rock Band is amazing, whether you like it or not, so whichever one has sold the least is the best answer. After a little bit of research, that answer is “Through Being Cool” by Devo (interestingly enough, I love Devo). Here’s the DLC sales chart: http://www.dlcstats.com/

  • ElekrtaFi says:

Sin Wagon! I refused to buy it because it was “country” but am glad I did. Holy fastness, Batman.

  • SebastianSB says:

    @ Nathan Gross

That site is completely inaccurate. It hasn’t been updated since two weeks after that song came out.

  • KeenanC says:

A lot of the country packs. “Mud on the Tires” by Brad Paisley and “Sin Wagon” by Dixie Chicks for sure.

  • Kevin W says:

Hands down, “That’s When I Reach for My Revolver” by Mission of Burma. Last time I checked, the Mission of Burma pack was collectively the least downloaded group of DLC, but the lyrics are great, and the drums/guitar are deceptively tricky. MOB is totally under-appreciated by the RB community.

  • ppaz says:

Wii is so far behind on DLC, I can’t comment. But here’s my entry, lol…

    ;)

(real entry: People probably pass over Linger, but it’s a good song with lyrics that are not what you might expect, and a fun voice to sing for vocalists)

  • CrashTanuki says:

    Skullcrusher Mountain.

Most people probably don’t recognize Jonathan Coulton’s name without being prefaced as the Portal song guy, so I’d be surprised if this song is anywhere near the top songs downloaded. The lyrics are entertaining and the song is fun to play, so it’s always a nice choice amidst all of the other choices that are out there.

  • Martin says:

Bethoven’s C*** — not overrated, it’s just plain never talked about from what I can see. Serj Tankian is a genius. I wish Elect the Dead in it’s entirety was coming to RB2.

  • Caz says:

I would say Forever by In This Moment. I downloaded it just because I liked the pace, but its a hit with all my friends. Guitar is really fun, its fun all the way around!

  • dcriptide says:

I ain’t superstitious. Not really a “metal” song. 2 thumbs up and snaps :)

  • allanhowls says:

Don’t laugh…”Headphones On” by Miranda Cosgrove. We got it for the kids, but it’s a challenge on expert bass & guitar without being ridiculously easy or hard. And as far as pop goes, I’ve heard a lot worse.

  • Bryan says:

    @SebastionSB

I whole heartily agree that “Hey” and actually the entire Pixies Doolittle album is underrated by the RB community. Not many people have it. But I play all the parts through the album quite frequently.

Also if your into it.. here is a great cover of the song by Eskimo Joe

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlaMzuYJFdQ

  • Nick1337lawl says:

I think the Dashboard Confessional track, “Hands Down” is underrated. The drum chart is really fun. I think that whole pack was underrated. The Rock Band live pack or whatever. All the songs are pretty fun for full band.

So my answer is: Hands Down by Dashboard Confessional.
    :)

  • Mark says:

“Young Man Blues” by The Who. Not one of their big hits, but a fun song full of energy.

  • Ryan says:

“La La Love You” by Pixies has a great drum part and fun vocals, plus whistling.

  • Kyle says:

Off the top of my head, I’m gonna have to go with “Perfect Drug” by Nine Inch Nails. Great drumming, incredible sound, and overall is probably my favorite N.I.N. songs.

  • Anex says:

    In This Moment- Forever

As a vocalist the difficulty is easy to see (I think it is harder than it is rated) but I played this for the first time the other day on guitar and drums and man was it soo much fun! Guitar especially, I was not expecting it to be that interesting. Definitely one worth buying.

  • The first one that comes to mind is “Debaser” by the Pixies. Love to play this song on guitar as loud as I can when I’m happy, angry or both. I find that yelling out DEBASER! is very liberating. Never heard this song before Rock Band came along.

  • Vishhal says:

Ever Fallen In Love – Buzzcocks (Cover)

I live in Canada but whatever…I believe this song is overlooked because this song was released for RB1 DLC but barely anyone purchases it or plays it. And not to sound immature but people overlook it because the song might be “Gay” because of the Bands Name Buzz”COCKS”. But it is really fun to play on Guitar, Vocals & Hard and fun on Drums.

  • Evan says:

    “The Great Satan”
    By: Ministry

this song i believe is overlooked because of the title. The song is extremely fun on all instruments and gives you quite the challenge. Whenever i watch a video of it everyone hates it because they believe its Satanic music judged by the title. Its a awesome song.

  • xfer says:

    B-52′s – Roam.

I don’t live in USA, so, no prize for me, but everyone remembers B-52′s in “Love Shack” and “Rock Lobster” and overlook “Roam”.
