Green Day: Rock Band Release Date and Retail Price?
We’ve seen the Gamestop rumors of a June 1st release date and a full $59.99 retail price, but it seems that Amazon is joining in with a pre-order page now live on its site here.
They are expecting the game to be released one week later, on June 8th, and are also listing it at full retail price for $59.99 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and $49.99 for the Wii.
Well, that’s two sources now pointing to a full retail price and a June-ish release date. I know a lot of people were hoping for something closer to track pack pricing. Sound off in the comments…

There better be 80 exportable tracks on that disc, or I’m waiting for price drop, ala AC/DC.
Does Green Day even have 80 tracks worth playing?
I ask this as a Green Day fan, too.
I’m a fan, too, but holy geez, 80 tracks would asking for an AWFUL lot here.
Honestly, this is pretty much within expectations. It’s already been announced that everything exports, so assuming there’s some reasonable number of songs on the disc (40-45 tracks, something in that ballpark), it’s an offering right around the DLC price point with everything else (harmonies! motion capping! achievements! other sundries!) thrown in “for free”. Sort of non-ideal if you’re in the “but I only enjoy six Green Day songs and hate the rest with a burning passion!” camp, I suppose, but such is life.
(I also think “single band ‘track pack plus’ offerings, with re-skinned characters and exportable tracks, offered at a less-than-full-retail price point!” would be awesome and commercially viable… but is probably a REALLY hard sell for any artist you’d want to talk into it, and I am not holding my breath on that one….)
$60, really? Really? I love Green Day, honestly love that band. There’s no way in hell I’m paying $60 for it. We all know the game is going to have somewhere in the ball park of 40-45 songs. I’m guessing the pricing strategy was around the same price of Lego:RB ($50) which then charged us another $10 for the export. So, GD:RB will include the export code and not charge users for the export.
Either way, that price point is going to be a killer. I’ll get it day one (once it’s at $40).
Prediction, the game will flop week one, according to NPDs, and will slowly pick up sales as the price drops. Honestly, if they want to knock this game out of the park, they should be at the $30-40 price point. C’mon HMX, it’s an extension to an existing game…who are you kidding?
Well, you’re all a bunch of cheap bastards! I love that band and I will happily plunk down the cash on day one no matter how many songs are on it. Those songs will be so much fun it will be well worth it. And I can afford it too!
Considering it’ll be the same as Beatles, but with different music + export, I have no idea why the hell you’re complaining about the price tag.
You’d have to have been complaining about TB:RB’s price tag as well. I don’t care if the Beatles is in a completely different league than Green Day. It’s THE SAME GAME.
It’s not an extension of the game. Track packs are. That is why it is called Green Day: Rock Band not Green Day track pack. Why would an entire game be anything less than $60?
