Jimi Hendrix: Rock Band

So by now we all know that Green Day: Rock Band is official. A live Pearl Jam project was teased last year, but no official details have been announced. There have also been rumors about separate projects for The Who, U2, and Pink Floyd.

Now, we have a rumor coming out of the LA Times that, according to step-sister Janie, Jimi Hendrix may be getting his own Rock Band project due out by the end of the year. No other details were mentioned in there piece, but with at least one song in Rock Band (“Fire”), it makes it easier to believe there may be more tracks coming, due to licensing issues.

Janie signed an agreement which migrates the rights to his catalog from Universal Music to Sony, who vowed to make his music “available through every type of media.”

UPDATE: According to a spokesperson from Harmonix (via Joystiq):

While we have not made any official announcements regarding Jimi Hendrix and Rock Band, we are excited to say that we are in discussions to bring more of his music to our platform. Stay tuned.

There’ve been so many red herring leads on new games/projects like this since Rock Band’s inception that it’s really hard to get excited about another one. If it does happen, I think it goes without saying it might be the best set of guitar songs ever.

I want to say that this is probably going to be nothing more than a disc/DLC-based track pack, but at the same time I don’t really know what to expect, knowing what I know about the Hendrix estate and the way they control how Jimi’s image and music is used.

    SebastianSB Reply:

an exportable game like Green Day should be fine. Lego Rock Band showed that the Hendrix Estate obviously doesn’t care how his music is used. They just want to make sure that if he makes an appearance in a game that he oly plays HIS songs.

these band game rumors are exhausting =/

Rumors about The Wall and now THIS?! This could be a very good year for me.

yay an idea that is even more significantly better than green day rock band :P

With so much going on with the Hendrix catalogue – a new compilation of unreleased material is coming out in a few weeks, along with CD/DVD reissues of the three Jimi Hendrix Experience records and the First Rays of the New Rising Sun outtakes compilation – I would not be surprised by the revelation of a Hendrix-oriented Rock Band. But I speak for many when I say how exciting such a game would be!

don’t mind me just pissed off about the Hendrix DLC stuck on my World Tour disc.

Hendrix? Rock Band? Makes my carpal tunnel wanna hide in fear! I agree that a less Beatles-esque version would be best. No need to become all Guitar Hero about it.

Harmonix definitely have something up their sleeves with Rock Band 3. I mean, Pearl Jam, U2, Green Day, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, and Queen!?!?! Something is going on here…

I’m pretty cynical of all these band-orientated games, don’t particularly want them. But I wouldn’t definitely buy this on day one. Mitch Mitchell is one the most impressive drummers I’ve ever heard, and understandably Hendrix’s guitar would be fantastic to play in RB, but the drums will be just as fun, if not more so. Not to mention pretty darn unique even compared to the 1,000+ songs available now.

Not too crazy about Band Oriented games..

Kind of getting sick of all the rumors floating around about new games with Rock band when they haven’t even released RBN yet. Gimme RBN and then we will talk about other projects imo.
