Harmonix Working on Non-Rock Band Game?

Wait for it...

Found over at Destructoid, it looks like Harmonix has licensed the rights to four tracks (see below) that, despite some creative charting in Rock Band, I just can’t believe could be used in the current franchise.  So what could they be licensing them for?  Too early to say, but early consensus tends to think they are either going after a “DJ Hero” type game, rebooting an older franchise (Frequency, Amplitude), or starting something entirely new altogether.  Harmonix is definitely innovative, so personally I doubt they are going down the “DJ Hero” game route.  I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Either way, check out the solid selection of songs after the jump.

I’m excited to find out whatever they may be doing.  Here are the tracks being licensed:

  • M.O.P. – “Ante Up”
  • Cascada – “Evacuate the Dancefloor”
  • Trey Songz – “Say Aah”
  • Timbaland feat. D.O.E. – ”The Way I Are”

And I just because this is one of my favorite YouTube vids, check out some other interesting usage of “Ante Up:”

please let it be a frequency/amplitude reboot. It would make a good XBLA/PSN title at least.

Seconded, a new freQuency/Amplitude would be awesome.
Just a shame that other than “Ante Up,” i really god damn hate those songs. Interested to see what they end up doing with these songs though, definitely agree that it’s doubtful to be Rock Band-related

I don’t know… I don’t see any reason at all why these wouldn’t be in RB. There’s already songs of a similar style in RBN and we’re owed some Snoop Dogg. They might just be expanding the variety of genres available. They’re also already working on 3 or 4 other RB titles so they’d really be creating a lot of work for themselves if they’re starting up something new. But we’ll see =)
