It’s Official: “Green Day: Rock Band”

Green Day

Wow, I step away from the computer for a few hours and I miss this juicy tidbit!  Still getting up to speed on what I missed, but looks like soon (I’m assuming) we should be seeing a version of Rock Band featuring punk-pop musicians Green Day!

Take a look at the leaked trailer (captured by @Toymachinesh) below that was posted on MTV.com earlier today, but subsequently taken down. The leaked trailer was taken down, but I’ve included a link to the official trailer from the Spike VGA’s on Saturday.  You can clearly see customized characters representing Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool.

Further details will be posted as soon as I find out more. Expect to see more during the Spike Video Game Awards (starting in a few minutes).

And before you ask… I’m not yet sure if it’s exportable!

a few minutes? The channel and website tell me it’s still three hours away =(

Are you on the West Coast? Sorry! There will probably be spoilers soon…

  • Katherine says:

If this isn’t fake… well I will be so amazingly happy.

But it doesn’t make sense that they were releasing Green Day DLC in Rock Band if they would have their own game…

  • Struble says:

It does make sense, if Green Day: Rock Band allows for looking into the Rock Band DLC for Green Day songs.

  • Katherine says:

Ahh, true. I didn’t think of that.

That also might explain the lack of the title track of 21stCB in the latest Green Day track pack, they might want it on disk.

  • AtomicToast says:

    Sorry, looks fake.

I mean, it’s well done but something is just off about it…it doesn’t seem like it’s something Harmonix did.

I should have put in the post that the video above was featured on MTV.com, and was subsequently pulled… so it’s definitely not fake.

This is what I like about this site… there’s no unwarranted for a (surprisingly) good band. People seem to hate them just because of their singles, when, more often then not, they are the weakest songs on their albums.

    ::pukes on keyboard::

    Green Day is horrible.

    Jordan Reply:

    I guess I was wrong.

  • spudz says:

    Yeah, it’s official.

    What could have been…

    ::sniff::

Am I the only one who thinks the general rendering of the band and venue looks awful? I’m wondering if this is just a mock-up for a commercial or something. My gut still tells me this is going to be one giant DLC pack, like No Doubt or the Who.

I’m sad to say that I agree. I hope I’m not being harsh by judging it from one low-resolution promo video, but so far the animation doesn’t look up to the (very) high standard of Rock Band. It reminds me more of GH: Metallica. I wonder if the development was outsourced like it was for Lego Rock Band.

    kenshinesca Reply:

I think the game seems to have more of a cell shaded look which I don’t know seems to fit the band better. The animation does look crappy right now though I was looking at the drummer and the animation looks so stiff but it’s very early and the game was just announced so I’m sure it will get better.

You know what I enjoyed the career mode of GH Metallica better than the Beatles Rock Band and I think people didn’t give that game the respect it deserves. I thought the graphics on Metallica were sick, sure band members looked more buff than their real life counterparts, but not a big deal, nothing really wrong with the animation that I seen. I thought the extra content in GH Metallica was so much better than The Beatles Rock Band, Metallifacts were better than the way Beatles Rock Band handled their extra content, it was like watching episodes of pop up videos from vh1 if anyone remembers that show. I just wish the game had more Metallica songs, the other songs were decent though.

Not trying to come off like a dick but I just got done playing through GH Metallica and found it quite fun, so I had to defend it a little bit. As far as music games dedicated to bands go I say the more songs the better and even more so if the songs are exportable.

  • The Sound Defense says:

As long as this is a career-spanning game like The Beatles: Rock Band, then I’ll be happy. If I can’t play “Welcome To Paradise”, heads are going to roll.

  • Cameron says:

OMG I am soooooooo freaking excited. I have been a HUGE Green Day fan since 1994 and I can hardly contain myself. I can’t wait.

  • Sean says:

I’m hoping that we don’t need a forth character and guitar/singer can be handled on one character. Other than that, Jesus of Suburbia would make my life.

  • Cassie Drake says:

    NO. JUST NO.

I’m sorry, I love Green Day. I really do. I love them more than I love The Beatles [BLASPHEMY, I KNOW!]. I also love other bands more than I love Green Day. But does that I mean I want Rock Band game dedicated to them? NO, NO IT DOESN’T.

I don’t want Rock Band to become another milked out joke like the Guitar Hero series. I mean, I had a hard enough time dealing with The Beatles: Rock Band, but at least The Beatles were HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. Plus they’re dead [the band, not neccessarily all the members], so their career and story and tour and milestones are over. Green Day’s still going. Plus, no offense to them, but they’re not HISTORICAL. To me, historical has to be IN THE PAST. And Green Day, is just too present for them to merit an entire game.

Really? I’d rather have NO band-centric games in the Rock Band franchise. Let there be track packs! Save the franchise milking for Guitar Hero.

  • modem says:

why do they release green day DLC just minutes before we get the new game?
    it doesnt make any sense.
maybe a big green-day DLC package? unlike ac/dc?

  • MajorExtreme says:

I really have to say that I’m excited for this game, and if you don’t like Green Day, then the simple thing to do would be not to buy it.

  • BleachMan! says:

    It’s fully exportable!

  • Struble says:

So, the big hope is that they don’t neglect certain records — particularly those that came before Warner Bros. and Dookie — and we get to play some Kerplunk and 39/Smooth.

Also, what would make my experience complete is some songs from “The Network,” their synthesizer based side project. Wouldn’t mind some Foxboro Hot Tubs, either.
