DLC 1/29: Aerosmith

june 29 2009

Man, it’s already the last release of January. This month just flew by! Last week saw the release of more Blitz tracks, so that means that this week will feature new content. We got a hints in the form of a poem and a video of a live version of Iron Maiden’s Number of the Beast this week, but what that all means, I guess there’s only one way to find out…

  • Aerosmith – Walk This Way
  • Aerosmith – Sweet Emotion*
  • Aerosmith – Back In the Saddle
  • Aerosmith – Dream On (Live)*
  • Aerosmith – Legendary Child
  • Aerosmith – Lover Alot

Tracks marked with * indicate a Pro-Guitar/Bass chart available for $0.99

Best release in many many months, IMO… Thank u Harmonix! Keep it up, I was pleasantly surprised!:)

  • Jason R. says:

Well that’s kind of a nice surprise. Aerosmith isn’t my favorite band in the world, but it’s nice to get some notable songs in the queue after a lot of doom and gloom.

    Out_of_Time_Man Reply:

I would have loved some “Doom and Gloom”! And a few other songs of “Grrr!” ;)

    lasse s. jorgensen Reply:

i would like 1 song more from Aerosmith: Dude Looks Like A Lady but what can you do? :)

    Ospero Reply:

Hey, we’re getting more Aerosmith after five and a half years. I wouldn’t completely rule out more Stones either. Maybe in four weeks? (Two weeks from now is Valentine’s, so my guess would be they’ll continue that tradition.)

  • jdogg1003 says:

Does this mean we can get more Metallica soon?

    Josh Reply:

Three words: Guitar Hero Metallica. Those tracks are, unfortunately, wrapped up in an Activision contract for years.

    Tim the Enchanter Reply:

Guitar Hero Aerosmith was a thing too

    MrMet2087 Reply:

4 years to be exact. A 4 year period of exclusivity as previously rumored with the No Doubt contract that was released after the lawsuit. And the release of these Aerosmith tracks backs that rumor. The game came out in July of 08. So 4 years means July of 2012 the exclusivity ends. They license Aerosmith and it’s been confirmed DLC takes 6-7 months from contact for licensing to being released, so that means July of 2012 license is going to be released Jan of 2013. Perfectly matching. So with that said, Metallica was released I’m march of 09, so exclusivity would be up March of this year, so around September/October id guess a Metallica pack with be released :)

    lilchro2010 Reply:

highly possible now with metallica being an indie label!

    the_void Reply:

This is true but the fact that they later made an import possible into GH:WOR makes me worried that they renewed the contract as well.

    RedIon1992 Reply:

That, and the fact that two of their character models and one song were included as DLC for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD…

    DavidTLynch Reply:

We got a No Doubt pack months after Band Hero.

    MrMet2087 Reply:

Yes, same goes with maroon 5 but That was for the likeness, not the music. Metallica was for the music and likeness, my point being that contracts use the same terms regardless of what they are for. We fought countless amounts on the real forums over exclusivity and how you felt Metallica cause exclusive and blah blah blah just because they have a stupid tap tap game. They are blocked, or WERE blocked from HMX, it’s pretty clear and basically confirmed by Alex rigopolus’s brother in an interview back in may of ’10 I believe saying that their are exclusives, BUT those exclusives are finite like everything else. I find it no coincidence that as soon as GH goes under we can get back the Chili peppers who were rumored to have a game, and soundgarden when they were in bed with the whole distributing CD’s with the game. So bottom line is, Aerosmith was exclusive, Metallica still is but that’s about to expire shortly, and van Halen will shortly after that. Prove me wrong, until then my assumption is a damn good one having seen patterns of songs not being exportable or licensable in the past.

    CMerseal Reply:

How about Tool…GHWT came out the same year as Aerosmith.

  • Xanadu says:

Awesome. This is the first week in some time I’ll be where I’ll buying everything. I’m a little surprised that we got Legendary Child and Lover a lot before Rag Doll or Dude (Looks like a lady). Still a great pack. :D

    OsagaTheGreat Reply:

Gotta promote the new album! At least the new album is pretty great!

But yeah, there are A LOT of Aerosmith songs I’d want, and they could EASILY fill up a couple of 12-packs!

  • MrMet2087 says:

Awesome! This release by the way is 100% proof that GH exclusive bands have a 5 year period of exclusivity as previously rumored. The game came out in July of 07. So 5 years means July of 2012 the exclusivity ends. They license Aerosmith and it’s been confirmed DLC takes 6-7 months from contact for licensing to being released, so that means July of 2012 license is going to be released Jan of 2013. Perfect. I guess that means we can expect Metallica’s exclusivity to end in March of 2014, as Metallica was released march of 2009, and a Metallica pack to come out September of 2014, remember this post everyone, I’m calling it now :)

    Tim Reply:

…it came out in 2008, so no.

    MrMet2087 Reply:

Oh, so then September of THIS year we’ll see a Metallica pack YAY! :D

    MrMet2087 Reply:

Oh you meat Aerosmith, why did ithink that was 07? I guess it’s a 4 year exclusive pension then, in that case still Metallica will be here September of this year :)

    Tim Reply:

It seems like a game that came out in 07 for some reason, haha. Probably because it didn’t have full band.

    Excessive_Farce Reply:

“This release by the way is 100% proof that GH exclusive bands have a 5 year period of exclusivity as previously rumored.”

No, it most definitely is not. It is 100% proof that Rock Band 3 is getting an Aerosmith six-pack, and nothing more. Facts that happen to coincide with your beliefs do not qualify as “proof.”

  • dlauthor says:

OH NOES DOOM AND GLOOM DLC HAS GONE DOWNHILL SO MUCH IN RECENT wait, what? OK, never mind.

Will have to check out the two recent songs before deciding if I’m going to purchase, but damn, I’m all over the rest. I worry that Back in the Saddle is going to leave my microphone flecked with chunks of lung.

  • kidsampson says:

The stream of Blitz releases had left me doubtful. What an unexpected revival for Harmonix. Count me as having renewed interest in what else may be in the pipeline.

  • Game B says:

Wait. These DLC were NOT in RockBand Blitz ! WTFHMX ?

Just kidding. It’s nice to have some new songs.

  • boomsniper77 says:

    YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 ******* YEARS! YES! YES! YES!

  • StyrofoamTuph says:

I’ll pass, but it’s nice to see a big pack that doesn’t have a single blitz song, and it’s also nice to see Aerosmith, who I never thought I’d see in Rock Band.

  • boomsniper77 says:

I JUST WANT TO HUG SOMEONE! ANYONE! THIS DAY HAS COME! RB ALL THE WAY!

  • Erik1974 says:

Holy Crap! This just made 3 months of Blitz songs every other week worth it! Sweet Emotion is my favorite Aerosmith song and it has a Pro Upgrade! Awesome awesome! Thank you HMX!

  • Toad3000 says:

Well, that should give the naysayers a little tap in the balls. Awesome.
I don’t have much interest in the two new songs (haven’t been a fan of much Aerosmith has done in the 90′s or 2000′s), but I’m definitely in for the four oldies. Any idea what the source is for the live version of Dream On? (Please say the MTV/Last Action Hero version…)

    OsagaTheGreat Reply:

I’m not sure (according to HMX it’s “From the Vault”), but it sounds an awful lot like the version from A Little South of Sanity, and that makes me happy because it’s my favourite live album ever!

  • EposNamenlos says:

Oh god oh god oh god yes yes yes :D

  • Matthew Stewart says:

Pretty decent DLC, though I’m not really a fan but I’ll probably pick up ‘Walk This Way’ as it’s a classic.

  • LCS says:

Well at least this opens the door for us getting the Eagles.

    Mathew Reply:

Oh my God how much I would love this.

Completely unexpected DLC this week for sure.

    LCS Reply:

Eagles could easily fit a 12 pack. I’m stoked we finally got a new big artist but not stoked about the song choice here.

    MattUF Reply:

Eagles in a 12-pack would be INCREDIBLE. And check this out: the Eagles just wrapped a 40-year retrospective documentary that is debuting at Sundance as we speak, and it will air on Showtime in February. They’re also launching an Eagles History tour this summer.

So, possible Eagles anniversary, tour-and-film-promotion RB DLC in the pipeline??? Let us hope!!

    WHAT

  • Groudon199 says:

First time getting 100% of the new songs since the Iron Maiden pack last May (which also happened to be a 6-pack).

  • AeroMaiden says:

    DEFINITELY UNEXPECTED.
Haven’t been this excited for DLC/purchased an entire pack since Maiden in May. Good job, HMX!

  • yankeesniper57 says:

Aerosmith!! I am so pumped for this pack! Just when the boards had Harmonix down and out…the world was coming to an end for us Rock Banders…The clouds part, the angels sing, and we are graced with SWEET EMOTION. Should we DREAM ON? Harmonix is BACK IN THE SADDLE! So Run don’t WALK THIS WAY and show Harmonix support for this coup. The LEGENDARY CHILD of Aerosmith has arrived on Rock Band. So show Harmonix and Aerosmith you LOVER ALOT.

    LCS Reply:

It’s ok. Once next Thursday hits, the RB forums will be all doom and gloom again regardless of last week’s release.

    Ben The Wii Player Reply:

    And LCS for the win

  • P-Town Brave © says:

Pretty psyched for this as its another group GH had exclusive rights with that has now dropped off the board…

Also another artist that so much more can be done w/ in the future…

Just very good news this morning.

  • Sidd says:

thank you hmx! I thought you guys gave up a long time ago judging by the DLC we had been getting lately.

  • Beckett says:

Not really a fan of Aerosmith, not gonna lie, the only song from this list that I really like is Back In The Saddle.

  • Kevin says:

    Say what!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????????????

  • SorgFamily says:

Getting the whole pack! I wad starting to think we’d never get more Aerosmith.

  • RBGHfam says:

Don’t put the coffin in the ground yet!!!

AWESOME, did not see this coming.

  • Rockox says:

I would’ve preferred some tracks off Pump, but the bulk of this pack are “no brainer” songs, so I get it.

    Toad3000 Reply:

It’s weird, I tend to think of Sweet Emotion as being from the Pump era, as the bulk of my 80s/90s rock knowledge comes from MTV. I always forget the music video for Sweet Emotion is from the re-release.

  • D1Matman says:

Holy crap! Totally blindsided by this amazing DLC after weeks of doom and gloom about the impending end of the RB world as we know it, yes sir, back in action Rock Band! And as per discussions thus far, hope is high for some Metallica love too this year.

  • diego says:

OMG this is so cool, especially at times like these

  • dc32 says:

Im gonna assume Walk This Way is the non Run DMC version?

    Ospero Reply:

Going by the video in the announcement on the Rock Band site, yes. Otherwise, they would have had to include a credit for Run-DMC somewhere.

  • RickC32 says:

Since I can’t find anything to moan and groan about this week, I’ll have to get my pessimism on by saying, “Bet they discontinue RB DLC before Metallica’s exclusivity with GH ends.”

    samjjones Reply:

While I think the DLC schedule is going to change (to something less frequent than “weekly”), the framework is in place that HMX can revive it whenever they want. If they want to push out a pack like this every two or three months, instead of one song from a lesser artist each week…I’d rather have this.

  • KEWB says:

I’m not a huge fan of Aerosmith personally, but I can’t complain about a 6-pack from an enormously popular artist that fits the Rock Band formula perfectly these days. I’ll definitely be picking this up.

  • Sensei says:

If nothing else the amount of responses here should help tell Harmonix that there is still a lot interest in songs from the 70′s and 80′s. I will buy this whole pack also, but even if Aerosmith isn’t your thing, certainly the vigorous and vocal response should indicate there are many players who appreciate this musical era. I will be buying this pack AND playing it on the day it is released. Been a lot time since I could make that statement.

Well done Harmonix. I hope this is a sign of the future.

  • Sidd says:

getting everything this week, take my money HMX and go get Metallica and Van Halen now!

  • xX666Xx says:

    INSTANT FUCKING BUY!!

    D1Matman Reply:

    I endorse this pointed statement.

  • madman on the loose says:

Been a while since there was something from this genre and era. Will be purchasing on Tuesday.

  • Ty says:

Since there’s now dlc out that I want to buy, has anyone tried moving their rock band dlc from the wii to the wii u? I want to make sure it works before I do it

    MattyT Reply:

Harmonix has stated in their podcast that moving Rock Band DLC to the WiiU is problematic, so far. It’s an ongoing issue that is being worked on, and they currently suggest just using your Wii as “A Rock Band Console” for the time being, until the kinks are all worked out.

  • Dustinator says:

Buying the whole pack. The new songs sound okay and I was planning on buying the 4 classics anyways. So that’s like $2 for the two new songs. Not bad, I’ll bite

  • Shteev says:

This will be the first DLC pack released where you can’t turn the lead vocals down.

  • RedIon1992 says:

So THAT’S why they had the goal on Blitz this week of playing “Train Kept A Rollin’”…

  • Pele says:

All I’ll be getting is “Sweet Emotion”, but what a great song that is.

  • PolkaNuns says:

    Epic.
    Cancel the tombstone order.

  • Crashb648 says:

I’m very pleased to finally have Aermosmith into Rock Band. Althrough are some tracks not included (Same Old Song and Dance was a great track from Guitar Hero III) I’m sure if this sells well we will see another pack down the line. HMX are not stupid, they know how much fans have been clamouring from Aerosmith for ages!
