Thursday Throwback – Poison by Alice Cooper

After looking through the still on-going massive DLC sale that Harmonix has currently having, I had a look if there is any songs that I still hadn’t picked up that seemed great to play, judging by playthrough videos. One song I quickly came across is Poison by Alice Cooper. And guess what? It’s this week’s pick!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Alice Cooper, he is most famous for his horror-movie style concerts (hence why I’m featuring him around Halloween), which his career has spanned over four decades of music (starting in 1963). He is credited for bringing the horror style to heavy metal. With over 50 million sales worldwide, this success meant the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
After School’s Out (which I have already featured here) Poison is Alice’s most famous and successful single, peaking at #2 on the UK charts and features on the 1989 album Trash. A six pack of Alice Cooper hits was released in May 2009.
You will be glad to know that this track is a master recording, not a Live version like some of the other tracks. The 4-tier guitar starts off with a shifting pattern, which turns into chords during the chorus sections, with a mix of single notes, along with a small but very hard solo at the 2:30 mark, and then an extended solo at the 3:30 until the end of the song. 2-tier bass is quite lively in its chart, and reminds me a bit of Rush, although not as difficult. 1-tier drums is great fun, and has a mixture of yellow cymbal, bass pads and pedal. Although nothing difficult, it’s great to play. 1-tier vocals features your Alice Cooper vocals that you all know and love, and because he’s younger, sounds a bit better than the live tracks.
Is there any new features you would to be added to future articles? What do you think of the pick and song? Sound off below!
Do you like video games, movies and TV shows? Then I would appreciate it if you would have a look at my growing fansite, The Tribute Pages which features loads of tributes of video games, TV shows and movies. Thank you!

This is one of my mom’s favorite songs of all time. When we go to one of Alice’s shows and he plays this, she just lights up – pretty funny.
Apparently strippers have enjoyed dancing to this song throughout the years as well, for what it’s worth. Young or old, the ladies love Poison.
This is a great tune. I wish we’d get more of Alice’s stuff from the 80s and 90s, particularly anything off of Trash, Raise Your Fist and Yell, Constrictor and Hey Stoopid.
Behind Stephen Colbert’s short song, this is actually my most played track in RB3. A female friend loved it so whatever we throw in a setlist when playing online, this always gets added. It quickly grew on me too, but I guess it’s true what BC said, ladies love Poison.
