DLC for 10/29: Sublime 3-pack

If @RockBand is to be believed, and I would like to think it can, this week’s announcement should see another new artist debut to the Rock Band platform. Here is what’s coming next week:

  • Sublime – What I Got
  • Sublime – Wrong Way
  • Sublime – Santeria *

* Denotes Pro-Guitar/Bass chart availability for $.99.

    Finally is the only word.

  • Mike says:

Technically Sublime isn’t really “new” to Rock Band. Sublime with Rome already has tracks up on RBN. Not quite the same band, but pretty much the same band.

    VolTRH Reply:

Sublime with Rome was in the Fueled by Ramen pack back in December, not RBN.

Also Sublime with Rome sounds very different from Sublime to consider them the same bands.

    Pduke Reply:

Not the same band. Bradley made Sublime. Rome just makes the pain worse

    lorcbbqsauce Reply:

sublime with rome and the original sublime (with bradley)dont even sound remotely alike. sublime with rome sucks.

HELL YES!!!! Wrong way better not be the radio edit though.

    T Reply:

When hasn’t Rock Band used the more traditional radio edits?

    Joe Cam Reply:

To be fair, my local station has a pretty brutal radio edit. For example, in the lines “A cigarette rests between her lips but I’m staring at her tits it’s the wrong way” they not only cut out “tits” as expected, but they censor the word “lips” as well.
I’d be concerned that they have the really stupid radio edit as opposed to just a normal understandable edit.

    Alexander Reply:

I hope things have changed since 1997, so we can at least “stare at her tits”. The Beatles had “Tit” charted in the harmony vocals for “Girl”.

    Joe Cam Reply:

A.) How the hell did I not know they were saying “tit” in that song over and over?
B.) It’s quite possible the contract with the Beatles stated they could not edit any of the songs.
C.) Seriously, how did I miss them saying “tit” so much? That’s awesome.

    Spies Reply:

I don’t have any statistics in front of me but I feel more often than not Harmonix uses the album version over the single edit.

    Spies Reply:

Of course if you are talking about muting questionable lyrical content that’s different :)

    Beckett Reply:

Killing in the Name? By Rage Against the Machine? The traditional radio edit cuts out the last part of the song entirely but Harmonix left it in and just censored the objectionable words.

    MattyT Reply:

Well, with the preview video is up, we have our answer: “Tits” is out, “Lips” is in.

  • Croq says:

    Santeria!!!

  • Buj says:

    311 and then Sublime?? Awesome!!

    Wayne Reply:

    AMEN Sir.

  • VolTRH says:

    FINALLY! SUBLIME SANS ROME!

Also, for fans, TAG is supposedly working to get Sublime material from their first two albums on the RBN. Keep an eye out for that.

  • FoxForever says:

AWRSOME! All the best Sublime songs imo.

    RockBandAide Reply:

Definitely their three most popular. If we were given a choice on a fourth, I definitely would have lobbied for “Date Rape.” That’s my favorite of theirs.

    Solidus_Scott Reply:

Badfish for sure needs to be one of these songs. Smoke Two Joints would be a surefire winner if they would let go through but I’d say fat chance on that. Not exactly the most subtle song there is. lol

    RockBandAide Reply:

Oooh… I forgot about Smoke Two Joints. Good call.

    D1Matman Reply:

Smoke Two Joints followed closely by Date Rape

    Spies Reply:

I would even take the original version of Smoke Two Joints by The Toys. Rock Band Network make it so!

    SorgFamily Reply:

Date Rape would have been my 4th choice as well but I think we can rule that song out given song context, lol.

Overall I’m definitely happy. I have yet to pick up the Chicago pack (maybe this weekend) but this pack is a insta-buy.

    OsagaTheGreat Reply:

Well, there’s always Sublime 02! Date Rape happens to be my most wated Sublime song. Add Badfish and Smoke to Joints to that, and you’ve got a great follow up pack!

    T Reply:

Do we have Nirvana’s “Rape Me” already? I’m trying to figure out if that title alone would make it hard to squeeze past the T rating.

    Croq Reply:

Yes, “Rape Me” came out as DLC a while back.

    Joe Reply:

Yeah we do, although bare in mind the game is rated T, however there is a disclaimer that pops up and that’s on the back of the game that states “Downloadable Content not rated by the ESRB” therefor it is up to Harmonix and they always go on the side of caution or whatever version of a radio friendly song that the label gives them. An example of this going wrong was is the song El Scorcho by Weezer leaving in God Damn, and in This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race, God is censored out. (Guitar Hero left it uncut.) So it is extremely weird how they choose to censor songs, would be a good question for a future live stream though!

    RockBandAide Reply:

That’s not true, actually. Re-read #10 on our FAQ page (http://www.rockbandaide.com/faq/): “Why is DLC censored?”

The ESRB isn’t the most consistent group… From the 2008 (or 2009?) Harmonix GDC presentation: http://www.rockbandaide.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/ESRB.jpg

    Croq Reply:

Of course, the Guitar Hero franchise made some questionable censorships. Like for Band Hero, cutting out the word Whiskey from American Pie, so you’d hear “and them good old boys were drinking _______ and rye”. Made no sense to me at all to censor that word. And it occurs a lot.

    P-Town Brave © Reply:

    Yes…

I haven’t seen it mentioned but a prime example would be the re-cuts of the Snoop songs….

Just look at how much they screwed up “Whats My Name”…don’t get me wrong, I was buying it anyways, but it still was a bit of a failure

    RockBandAide Reply:

How did they screw it up?

    Locke Reply:

DATE RAPE! It’s one of my favorite tracks. Mostly because I’m a huge ska fan.

Also, Date Rape totally had a radio edit. I would hope the radio censors were more stringent than ESRB.

IMO, 2012 DLC started out great with 2012, Hall & Oates, Men At Work, Huey Lewis, and Bush, and then ran into a long period of uninteresting stuff (for me, anyway) until they started leading up to Blitz. Then the Maiden epics pack came out of nowhere, and DLC has continued to be diverse, but quality has picked up quite a bit. Then they throw this massively awesome legacy DLC sale in our faces. It seems like its building to a crescendo as 2012 winds down. To what? I don’t know. Metallica? I mean, are all bets off now?

Sublime is a tier-A act that has long been missing, and the fact that HMX music ops peeps are still busting ass trying to get big names like this onto the platform after 5 years…big props to them. This is a big-time get, and anybody who is still playing the game or Blitz will buy something out of this pack.

As somebody who wrote some pretty pointed criticism as to how Rock Band was treating it’s “older” fanbase, I feel like I have to shut up for a good long while.

    Joe Cam Reply:

They really have been busting out a lot of bands recently that were previously Guitar Hero exclusive bands. Maybe Metallica is on the way, perhaps those TOOL mentions in HMXhenry’s post a little bit ago will come to fruition. Who knows, maybe we will finally get more Muse too!
Nah. But I can still hope for TOOL and Metallica…

Definitely crazy excited for this Sublime pack!

    Ospero Reply:

Not to burst your bubble, but Sublime are by no definition of the word a “tier-A act”, unless you mean within their genre. A band I’d never even heard of before RB/GH does not play in the same league fame-wise (not saying anything about the actual quality) as Metallica, Queen or Bon Jovi.

    Mark Reply:

Sublime are definitely a tier one act unless you were born after 1990 I’d say. They were huge in the mid to late 90′s. All over MTV when they played videos regularly on TRL and the like. All over the radio too. They were big time up till the singer killed himself and then Santeria was still a huge hit.

    Ospero Reply:

I was born in 1979, and I can say I did manage to watch more MTV in my teens than was good for me, and I never heard of these guys. Sorry. Not a tier one act, at least not in Europe.

    Ospero Reply:

Also, I just checked the Wikipedia page for them – they had precisely one song that charted in the regular Billboard Hot 100 (“Santería”), and even that didn’t crack the top 10. So no, that’s not A-list fodder at all.

    RockBandAide Reply:

If you checked Wikipedia, you must have missed where it listed the popular singles from their five-times-platinum self-titled final album that “received heavy airplay.”

They may not have been popular outside of the US (that wouldn’t surprise me), but they had an ENORMOUS cultural impact, and there’s no way you could have escaped listening to that album if you had a radio on in 1996 and 1997.

I wouldn’t call them A-list, either, but they were HUGE back in the day.

    Ospero Reply:

To RBA: Not denying that they may have had a massive impact, especially on the target audience for a game like this, but the OP explicitly referred to them as an A-list band, naming Metallica in the same breath. (I’ll admit the link might not have been intentional, but it came off as such.) As huge as Sublime might have been in their heyday, they never were as big or influential as Metallica, doubly so outside the US. If I called Herbert Grönemeyer an A-list artist, I might be correct in relation to the German-speaking world, but I’d massively get called out on it by anyone outside it.

Perhaps I’m just trying to keep up the banner of (continental) European RB players; there are obviously so few of us that we haven’t warranted any significant DLC in nearly two years. Call it frustration.

    Ben The Wii player Reply:

Tier A, only if its a big tier.

Not a bad band, but in anyones top ten of all time? Unlikely.

Not with Zepp, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Queen, Creedence, the Who, Lynard Skynard, ect. out there.

    Who are your guys favorites?

    BigDog13 Reply:

Just my opinion, I would love metallica dlc. I’m a diehard fan, fuels me for the day. I would like to hope the exclusivty deals with GH are running out of time so we can rock out. Hell, i would take some Tallica if it had to be not part of their game’s setlist…still plenty of good songs. But i think the real sign if Tallica dlc is coming…if we see some Aerosmith DLC first (they’re a good band, just not my favorite). As far as i know thet were the first band to become exclusive to GH. Not to say all exclusivity deals are equal…but i think if we see Aerosmith dlc…expect Metallica songs very soon.

I don’t care for Sublime. I’m happy for those who are excited, hopefully next week brings something that suits my tastes.

  • HM says:

The RBN announcemet made it seem like we’d never get any Sublime as official DLC. Anyways, I kind of wanted the summertime song with the dog barking more than these 3.

  • angrydragon114 says:

should have made every song pro guitar

  • mattyboosh says:

    Ummm…no idea who they are.

But happy for those who do. Enjoy.

  • KEWB says:

I’m not a huge fan, but they’re not bad. I knew as soon as I saw the announcement though that a lot of people were going to be excited as they’ve been in very high demand over the years. I’ll probably pick up the pack after I get a new Xbox (mine keeps overheating).

  • Matt says:

HOoray! I hope that second Sublime pack is forthcoming and has April 29, 1992. Besides that, I couldn’t be happier with this here pack.

  • Wayne says:

    YAYYYYYYYYYYYY ::::))))))))

  • Xanadu says:

The player you used doesn’t work in Canada, or Quebec at least. :(

I’m sure this will make a lot of people happy. I remember all the bitching the week sublime with rome had a track as DLC instead of sublime. Personally I’m very happy that HMX has been rather easy on my wallet since Blitz came out (the only track I’ve downloaded is I Ran.

  • AlabasterKat says:

Santeria…. Awesome! This is 3 weeks in a row I’m picking something up. Great job, Harmonix… thanks.

  • Beckett says:

Would have rather had Badfish than Wrong Way but hard to complain about this in general. Santeria and What I Got should be a blast on vocals.

  • MrMet2087 says:

Replace Wrong Way with Doin’ Time and its a perfect pack for me. doin’ time might have been boring but I don’t care. Still solid though.

  • Ben The Wii player says:

I will buy this. Kinda hoping for something Halloween-ish (Rocky Horror?) But good music to buy is better than nothing to buy.

Two weeks in a row, can we make it 3? Maybe November can be Clasic rock month? A man can dream, right?

  • Sidd says:

finally! Instant buy for me, plus RBN will have songs off first two albums which is awesome.

  • Chris says:

Novembers DLC should start with November Rain…. just a thought.

    W000000000t!!!!!
Sublime has been on my request list from the beginning! :D

Only let-down is that they charted Santeria for Pro, I would have predicted (& preferred) they do What I Got.
It charted higher & is ranked as a Top Guitar song of All-Time by RS. Plus, it waaaaay more interesting a part than Santeria.

  • Ubuyo says:

And once again, no Halloween-themed tracks for Rock Band. Always next year, I guess. #Thriller2013

    Ubuyo Reply:

For the record, I also think Sublime is a good thing, and I’ll be getting What I Got.

  • The Dave says:

Will be picking up all three tracks but was also surprised and perhaps a tad disappointed there was no Halloween themed pack. Was hoping for some of the Nightmare Before Christmas covers from Nightmare Revisited!

    Wawa Reply:

Tiger Army’s cover would be so amazing in Rock Band.

  • chuck says:

No Craig-Bond 3 pack… Dlc continues to dissappoint. Those marketing and licencing fellas are asleep.

    loopychew Reply:

James Bond’s video game licensing is managed by Activision. I have a feeling we won’t see any Bond themes soon, particularly anything involving Craig’s Bond.

  • mrgoddy says:

Great pack. Let’s just hope Paddle Out is next. Seriously, listen to those drums!

  • ninjasweethrrrt says:

Considering Wednesday is Halloween, I figured we get something like Danzig, or even some Misfits.

But that would have been an interesting pick. OH WELL. Another week of RB dullness.

    Ospero Reply:

Now that I’ve played the songs, I’d rather have them than 70s/80s punk, which is nice and energetic and all, but tends to be either boring to play and/or a pure strumming exercise. “Dull” cuts both ways.

Also, Misfits were founded in Lodi, New Jersey. Thanks, Wikipedia, now I’ve got that CCR song stuck in my head again.
