DLC for 10/23: Chicago 3-pack

Over the last few weeks, Harmonix community manager @HMXHenry has been dropping some very veiled hints teasing the forthcoming DLC announcements. Without confirming anything, HMXHenry wrote another post with many references to specific bands and prominent song titles. Was this post full of red herrings, or was he dropping subtle hints again? Let’s find out…

  • Chicago – Make Me Smile *
  • Chicago – Feelin’ Stronger Every Day
  • Chicago – If You Leave Me Now

* Denotes Pro-Guitar/Bass chart availability for $.99.

    Wicked Awesome!

  • dlauthor says:

OH GOD I’M BACK IN THE ROLLER RINK

    Denyz Reply:

All we need is Dreamweaver & Rubberband Man and its ALL SKATE.

  • chris eubank says:

very happy. had been listening to the boyz ii men version of if you leave me now this week extensively; great coincidence.

    KStrickTech Reply:

I really liked the “Love” album. A lot of great covers on it. Good call, bud.

  • Meg says:

This is a great week for Rock Band…Love the older classics!! I can’t wait to get the band together for these tracks!

  • KStrickTech says:

AWESOME! Too bad I’m one of the people who can’t get the new XBox update to work, so until they fix it, I won’t be able to download or play this pack.

  • Denyz says:

Sold! Never thought I’d see, “If You Leave Me Now”.

  • Mircosoft93 says:

    no ‘You’re the inspiration’… derp

    Davyinatoga Reply:

I don’t need flashbacks of Elite Beat Agents causing me to tear up every time I play RB, so I’m ok with this exclusion.

    Pood LeFache Reply:

    My thoughts exactly

  • LCS says:

This one’s a maybe for me. My friend will probably make me get this.

BTW for those that remember that article a few months back about how much all the DLC, etc. would cost, I’ve been keeping weekly updates on it. We were around $7200 or something when it came out. With this week, we’re over $7500.

    P-Town Brave © Reply:

    YIKES!

I don’t even want to do the math and total up what I have spent between all the discs, DLC, and equipment I’ve purchased for RB…

At this point, I could probably pay off the rest of my car loan

  • Andre says:

    Woooooowww

    Hello again, Rock Band!

  • Rob says:

Chicago! Excellent! More RB3 bands are a good thing. Now where’s the Cure 3-pack?

    desperadokilljoy Reply:

The cure 12 pack* or the entire dosinteregaion album

  • SorgFamily says:

Chicago is definitely one of those bands that I didn’t realize I know a lot of their stuff, just didn’t know it was them. Looking like I’m getting all three.

  • CardinalDoug says:

I like the selections this week. Solid 70s Soft Rock.
We need a yacht rock pack
Keep The Fire Burning – Kenny Loggins
What A Fool Believes – Doobie Brothers
    Hey Nineteen – Steely Dan
Summer Breeze – Seals and Croft
I Keep Forgetting – Michael McDonald
Mexico – James Taylor and Crosby, Stills, and Nash (I actually think Nash sat this one out)

Some more Journey, Bread, or Styx (not re-records) would be nice too

    P-Town Brave © Reply:

    Great choices there Doug….

    More Journey would be great….

I’d also like to see Reeling in the Years by Steely Dan…think it would play well…

And maybe some Buckinghams and Steve Winwood.

    Bront Reply:

Loggins needs like a 6 or 12 pack really.

    P-Town Brave © Reply:

What I would give for “Meet Me Halfway” from Over The Top

    Eric Reply:

You forgot Hall & Oates in that batch.

Even though we already have some, it can’t be Yacht Rock without them! And possibly even Christopher Cross. Harpoon optional. :)

    P-Town Brave © Reply:

YES! MORE H&O would be awesome!

    Denyz Reply:

You’ve sold me on every one of those. Harmonix would make a fortune from me if you were picking the DLC.

  • VolTRH says:

I never really expected that we’d get more Chicago. I remember sitting in the car while my dad had this mixed CD playing. I remember hearing “If You Leave Me Now” right between “I Get Around” and “Cocaine”.

    …and I hated it.

So yeah, the 70s is probably the most consistently ambivalent decade for me, so I’m not really all that excited. I’ll most likely be passing on this one.

Good for the classic rock crowd, who has lately been unbearable around the RB forums. Maybe they’ll finally be happy.

    LCS Reply:

That crowd, they’re NEVER happy. The sense of entitlement there is ridiculous.

  • P-Town Brave © says:

Glad to see some more Chicago….great band…

Maybe eventually we will get Hard to Say I’m Sorry, Look Away, and Baby What a Big Surprise….Frankly, the Chicago hit list is pretty sizeable…

These are certain buys for me….

BTW….who has deciphered Henry’s post w/ the “hidden” words in it….I notice Nirvana or Scream, Metric (Black Sheep), Tool (Schism, The Grudge), MeatLoaf (hog butcher), and Green Day (Who wrote Holden Caufield)

Was hoping Scream meant Adelita’s Way…but who else figured out future artists/tracks by the obviously blatant messaging there

    Tim the Enchanter Reply:

I really really want Black Sheep. I was hoping for some Scott Pilgrim tracks back when that came out.

    291j291j Reply:

100% with you on that! Would love
    more from Metric!!

    P-Town Brave © Reply:

I gotta say, I found the hidden message for that track but I’ve never heard of them….

    Tim the Enchanter Reply:

Metric is actually in the RB3 set list so if you own that game, I would assume you’ve heard of them without knowing you’ve heard of them.

If you’ve seen the Scott Pilgrim film, Black Sheep is the song that is played by the Clash at Demonhead right before the bass battle.

    Rockox Reply:

SO wish we had more Metric in the game. “Black Sheep” would be a great start.

    Toad3000 Reply:

Man, that’s a bad example though. I love Black Sheep and enjoy most of Fantasies…but Combat Baby is terrible.

    Craig M. Reply:

There were 3 references to Genesis as well :)

I’d love to see black sheep in game soon too

    P-Town Brave © Reply:

    I missed the Genesis references…

I would love to see Invisible Touch, Land of Confusion, TonightX3, and Throwing It All Away….

    Craig M. Reply:

Genesis – “In the beginning” (the first line in the Book of Genesis in the Bible), foxtrot and revelations at the end.

I just pulled this from the thread. I would love to see land of confusion too though. Even if it’s the disturbed cover.

  • Craig M. says:

I can’t unhear butters singing “if you leave me now”

I’ll be buying it for sure!

    Plainclothes Man Reply:

Don’t forget, John Stamos brother sang it too!

    Craig M. Reply:

Didn’t he sing loving you? And kill the football team’s mascot by doing so?

    Plainclothes Man Reply:

Your totally right, my bad :/ We need that song too!

    Craig M. Reply:

    Yes, yes we do!

  • RBGHfam says:

Definitely one of those OH YEAH that song moments. Will be getting both of these not sure about the other

    Feelin’ Stronger Every Day
If You Leave Me Now (Got to love the sap coming out of this one)

now we just need Eric Carmen’s All by myself.

  • James! says:

Only song missing is “Saturday in the Park”

    Jack Reply:

I second that! “Saturday in the Park” is awesome!

    MrMet2087 Reply:

Yes very strange to not include that one

  • Glosoli says:

Feeling Stronger is a “strong” track. I will definitely pick it up the next time I play.

  • CardinalDoug says:

I’d also like to hear some Jamiroquai or maybe some neo-soul like Erykah Badu, The Roots, and Brand New Heavies

  • Jack says:

    AWESOME!!!!

“If you live me now” is fantastic….and “Make Me Smile” will make people sweat! :-D

  • The Dave says:

    Boston>Chicago ;p

    James Reply:

    No.

    :p

    VolTRH Reply:

    +1

    Plainclothes Man Reply:

I don’t think Boston played backwards had the devils lyrics in them like Chicago!

    Wawa Reply:

    Boston>Kansas>Chicago

    KEWB Reply:

This….but they’re all pretty damn good.

  • JCox says:

Yes! Wasn’t expecting any more Chicago, certainly not Make Me Smile. Haven’t been this excited about DLC in a very long time! Thanks HMX!

  • Croq says:

Very cool, excited to get these!!! Can I buy them now? ;)

    P-Town Brave © Reply:

    Seriously right?

I’m having a RB party for the 1st time in quite awhile and would’ve loved to add these 3 to the setlist

  • MilesRose says:

Make Me Smile and Feelin’ Stronger Every Day makes me absolutely jittery in happiness! :D A tad bit sad to see no Saturday in the Park or Questions 67 and 68, or Beginnings, but yaaay!

  • Simon says:

If you’re a singer and keyboard player, you should be in heaven. And I am.

    P-Town Brave © Reply:

The harmonies should be great too for all those backup singers out there

  • James says:

Damnit, I always get Hard To Say I’m Sorry & If You Leave Me Now mixed up.

Since reading the announcement, I’ve had Get Away (the little coda bit at the end of HTSIS) in my head, and was massively excited for it.

Nevertheless, this is an incredible pack. Day one purchase.

  • Razputin217 says:

As a fan of Elite Beat Agents, I’m a little disappointed at the lack of “You’re the Inspiration”. One time I failed that song on purpose just to see what would happen. I felt REALLY bad about myself after that.

  • chuck says:

    WTF where is Celebration Day??

damn you hmx. what a missed opportunity

  • Groudon199 says:

First: Frankie Goes to Hollywood announced, no “Two Tribes”.
Then: Hall & Oates announced, no “Out of Touch”.
Now: Chicago announced, no “You’re the Inspiration”.

I need to stop expecting songs from other video games if it’s the only one I know by the band/artist.

    RockBandAide Reply:

If Frankie Goes to Hollywood has one song on Rock Band and it isn’t Relax, people would have lost their shit and you know it.

“Out of Touch” is 10th on Hall & Oates most popular songs. Know what’s above it? All their songs released as DLC. Source: http://80music.about.com/od/artistsfj/tp/halloatessongs.htm

70s Classic Rock Chicago > 80s Adult Contemporary Chicago

You can’t fault Harmonix for trying to releasing artists’ most popular songs, regardless of your personal preference.

    Simon Reply:

When obvious songs are skipped I just always assume they are holding the track for the next major game release. So perhaps these will appear in RB4 or Blitz 2.

  • pad says:

If You Leave Me Now seems like a waste of a Chicago track to me. Of course I’m more into the epic progressive stuff. More bang for your DLC dollar. I’m A Man or Street Player or Questions woulda been funner. But I only complain to hear myself talk. Street sounds swirlin thru my miyiyind…

  • Jack says:

    I would’ve preferred a Chicago 3-pack with:

    “Hard Habit To Break”
    “Hard To Say I’m Sorry”
    “You’re The Inspiration”

    pad Reply:

yikes… why all the sappy love ballads?

  • Joe Shredder says:

This would have been epic a year or two ago when my friends were still playing. Now, I’m not sure that I would even get around to playing them. Sad how far things have fallen.

    Joe Shredder Reply:

Bought it anyway after watching the vids on youtube. Music is too damn good not to have.
