DLC for 10/9: Singles from Billy Squier & A Flock of Seagulls

Once again, we knew courtesy of @RockBand that new artists would be coming to the Rock Band library for the first time next week, this time two artists to last week’s one… Or so we thought, until they corrected themselves later last night, revealing it would only be one. So who’s hitting this week? Time to find out:

  • A Flock of Seagulls – I Ran (So Far Away)
  • Billy Squier – The Stroke *
  • Billy Squier – Everybody Wants You

* Denotes Pro-Guitar/Bass chart availability for $.99.

I Ran is a pretty cool song.

  • I Ran has been my most wanted song in Rock Band for ages. Hopefully we can get Space Age Love Song sometime down the road. The Stroke is nice, but I’m not all that familliar with Everybody Wants You. Lonely is the Night would have been cool too.

    Shmoo Reply:

“Lonely is the Night” is one of the few reasons I’ll play the Guitar Hero platform still. I’m happy to get two at least – been hoping for Billy Squier for a long time. These are a big upgrade over the Christmas track for me, at least.

    Denyz Reply:

Wahoo! “I Ran” was #4 on my most wanted list. I’ll take the Squier’s as well.

  • Some guy says:

Time to get our 80s on – like for shure

  • dlauthor says:

I Ran was among my favorites in GH80s. A must-buy, even if there’s no way you can do justice to it with the hairstyles available in the game.

Probably get The Stroke too, for nostalgia/kitsch value. Other Squier song, probably not, but more power to his fans.

    PULP FICTION.

    Well played :-)

  • Croq says:

VERY happy about this! Ever since we got “Christmas Is The Time To Say I Love You”, I’ve been hoping for more Billy Squier.

Of course, I’ll probably have to get the pro guitar upgrade too, so I can play Squier on my Squier…

Love the Flock of Seagulls song too!

  • Mikey's Rock Band Lounge says:

    Best. DLC. Week. Ever.

    Croq Reply:

I wouldn’t go that far… But it is pretty awesome!

    Mikey's Rock Band Lounge Reply:

I’m old, I have a short memory. And I also tend to exaggerate a littlet :-)

    Dave Reply:

This was my exact thought upon seeing the announcement! I love 311, but I don’t feel they chose great songs. So this is the first week in a LONG time that I am super girly excited. I love all 3 of these songs and have wanted them in RB forever! STOKED

  • RBGHFam says:

Break out the Members only jacket. Love me some cheezy 80s! All 3!

Who couldn’t love a song about Billy dating miss Michigan :D

  • Rockox says:

I’ll probably eventually get “The Stroke.” Nice week of singles!

  • DVD Smith says:

Yay for another Vice City track! I Ran is long long overdue, although I’m gutted it didn’t get the Pro upgrade. However, it does mean we get to play some Squier with a Squier :D

  • D1Matman says:

    I am 80s happy.

  • Game B says:

I was waiting for “I Ran” since Guitar Hero 80s !
    Thanks Harmonix :D b

  • RickC32 says:

A non-metal week where I am getting everything? Rare, but awesome!

  • MrMet2087 says:

I ran is one of the few songs I’ve used the request a song feature for on the official site. Very cool, and I’m surprised no “Lonely is the Night” and just do a 3 pack by billy. It was in GH 5 so the master is usable

    Dustinator Reply:

This. EXTREMELY surprised and actually disappointed “Lonely is the Night” is not in there. Should be a three pack really.

Gonna buy all three songs though. Great week

    Geoff Reply:

If/when there is a RB4, “Lonely is the Night” would definitely be on-disc, for sure. So maybe there’s still hope for a rightful successor to RB3. Going off-topic, I wish they would do a sequel to RB3 because, while it is great, they can definitely improve upon it and perfect it. RB4 should be their last RB game developed exclusively for the current console generation. If they can get a great set list together (great songs are still, sadly, unavailable in Rock Band), they can renew interest from the general public (with GH out of the picture) and invigorate all of us die-hard fans as well. I’m hoping Harmonix is at least in the planning stages of the next true RB experience.

  • Rick says:

Finally more Billy songs and I’m glad to see another Vice City track. I’ll be getting all of these when they come out.

  • Ninersphan says:

Whooo HOOO, Been dying for Squier.. I wish there were more off Don’t Say No ( Two Days Gone, In the Dark, My Kinda Lover… great album) Little known fact too, Squier played all the instruments himself on his debut . I hope we’ll get more from him soon, Great songs, I’ll be picking up the whole set this week…

    Sid Kafizz Reply:

If I nodded my head any more to this post, I’d have a sprained neck. I’m hoping for a future “Don’t Say No” album release.

I could also be persuaded to buy She Goes Down, She’s A Runner, Don’t Say You Love Me, and probably most of the other songs in his catalog.

  • Vampire-Jekyll says:

Wasn’t ‘The Stroke’ the very first custom Guitar Hero song ever made? Nice to see it FINALLY come to Rock Band.

  • Epsilon says:

Ah…so close. Swap “Lonely is the Night” for “Everybody Wants You” and I would have been squealing with delight. Glad to at least get I Ran in there finally. That’s been a song that I had found myself constantly thinking was available in Rock Band before I realized it really wasn’t. No longer.

    Mcmax3000 Reply:

Yeah, I’ll admit, my first reaction to reading the announcement was “Isn’t ‘I Ran’ already in there?”.

  • MilesRose says:

I know some wanted “Lonely is the Night” but I’m pretty happy with “Everybody Wants You”. It’s a great song, and I’m looking forward to shredding with Squier!

Every Friday i tune in here to find out what the next dlc will be.

Each week kind of becomes like a birthday gift where i’m hoping for some cool LEGOs, GI Joes or Transformers and sometimes end up with socks.

Loaded the page this week and as soon as i saw the hair i knew it was going to be a good week.

This week breaks a drought where i was only buying for the sake of doing my part to help keep Harmonix in the Rock Band biz.

    In for all three!

    Ospero Reply:

Buying for HMX … yeah, I kinda stopped doing that after I hit the song limit (hence no 311 or Three Days Grace for me). I can do a lot of things for you, HMX, but if you don’t want me to buy DLC anymore except when I really like the songs, it’s not my loss.

  • GloofiE says:

    I’m liking this.

  • AlabasterKat says:

Definitely picking up Flock of Seagulls and Billy Squire. Here’s hoping we’ll see more from the GH franchise. Thx HMX!

  • rb_drummer says:

Between “I Ran” and the hair-metal in the RBB soundtrack, it drops my Xbox-envy of the Playstation-only GH:80s down to Bathroom Wall, Only a Lad, and What I like About You.

    samjjones Reply:

    “What I like About You”

Lack of Romantics makes me kinda wistful, actually. Damned covers being too good and all.

    Bront Reply:

That’s not likely to come though, given they sued about the cover.

  • James! says:

I guess even Harmonix forgot about that Christmas pack.

Here’s to hoping we get a new one this year, but with actually good songs.

    RickC32 Reply:

“No Presents For Christmas” by King Diamond!

    Curtis Reply:

Trans-Siberian Orchestra for Christmas? Haha, I would be pleased.

    James! Reply:

I know “Wizards in Winter” is a fairly highly-requested song.

    I wouldn’t mind, either.

  • Toad3000 says:

Yeah, I’m pretty excited about this week’s DLC. Wanted I Ran and Everybody Wants You for a while. The Stroke is a nice bonus

  • dalton d says:

this is the best. just the best.

  • KEWB says:

From the correction on Twitter everybody on the forums seemed to be guessing either Harvey Danger or Billy Squier. I was guessing Billy Squier, but I was expecting Lonely is the Night. I never really listened to him so I’ll have to give those two songs a listen. I’ll pick up I Ran though. Overall it’s nothing too special for me here, but it sure as hell beats what we’ve been getting recently for me (minus Days Go By).

  • Wyz_sub10 says:

Showing my age, but I am so buying these!

  • dc32 says:

Flock of Seagulls FTW! Wish Space Age Love Song was available too, hopefully sometime down the road.

“The Stroke” was one of those “oh THAT song” moments when I listened to it, not much of a fan though so only “I Ran” for me next week.

  • Xanadu says:

Please Harmonix have mercy. After that sale my wallet is dry AND STILL YOU WANT MORE?!?!

Very well. I will run for more points.

  • wiibaron says:

Two weeks in a row of good to great songs to pick from is always a good thing, but as many have mentioned these songs are available in the plastic band universe. In the new reality of slim DLC pickins, maybe songs not used before would get more sales. I know I usually don’t re-buy DLC that is on “the other disc’ unless it is a fave tune. It could have been: FoS= Space Age Love Song. The Squier songs= In the Dark, Don’t Say No, or My Kind of Lover.

    Mcmax3000 Reply:

Unless I’m horribly mistaken, ‘I Ran’ has never been available in a full band game before. It was only in GH:80s.

So while you may have an argument about the Squier songs (which were DLC for GH, not on any of the discs), I completely disagree with changing the pick for Flock of Seagulls.

    Ospero Reply:

Just went to check the Guitar Hero Smash Hits setlist, and “I Ran” isn’t on there, so you’re spot on. Also, getting an 80s one-hit wonder and then not releasing that one hit? They’ve done that once already this year, they’re (hopefully) not making that mistake twice. (Seriously, “Power and the Passion” over “Beds are Burning”?)

    samjjones Reply:

I have a feeling that “Power and the Passion” wasn’t HMX’s first preference.
