DLC for 10/2: 311 3-pack

We saw a tease from @RockBand last night about getting a DLC announcement this morning featuring an artist who has yet to have any content in the game. We’ve all had our guesses, but here is the official word on what we can get our hands on next week.

  • 311 – Down *
  • 311 – Beautiful Disaster
  • 311 – Amber

* Denotes Pro-Guitar/Bass chart availability for $.99.

[Official announcement]

  • dude says:

Are they even TRYING to make relevant, interesting releases anymore? Come on.

    • Shmoo says:

I know, right? Harmonix be all like “Hey, let’s release a pack by one of the most requested bands as determined by our application.”

  • Glosoli says:

That makes it 5 straight weeks of pass for me. I can’t even remember before that.

    • Shmoo says:

      Cocaine is a helluva drug.

      • Glosoli says:

I’m only 13 years old, I’ve never done drugs. I didn’t know this site supported drug use until now. I will say I’m addicted to video games but so are a lot of other 7th graders out there.

        • RockBandAide says:

A commenter’s opinion on the site is not reflective of the attitude of the site itself.

        • Shmoo says:

Joke in reference to “I can’t even remember before that”…and a reference to a TV show, not an accusation or an endorsement.

        • Headcase says:

In a Dave Chappelle sketch inspired by real events, Rick James slapped Charlie Murphy, and later that night, Charlie saw him again and slapped him back. Rick asked why he did that, Charlie tells him it’s for the slap from earlier, and Rick said “that was weeks ago!”. Rick James’ explanation for his poor memory at the time was that “cocaine is a helluva drug”.

And you can google\yahoo\etc the phrase for the clip.

  • Jason R. says:

I actually like this pack. “Down” brings back a lot of 1990s nostalgia, and the other two songs are fairly good. I may end up snagging the whole thing. Nice job, HMX!

  • Ed says:

    I think I’ve never heard about them. I’ll give a listen…

  • Dustinator says:

Buying the whole damn pack. What an EPIC week. Been wanting 311 in RB for years. Harmonies will be stellar

  • Tim the Enchanter says:

A 3-pack from a band we haven’t had in Rock Band? This means that Harmonix can’t get music from their mainstays and they’re really reaching for bands. The well is obviously drying up and rock band is dead.

I’m just kidding. I’m pretty pumped for this. It’s about time we got some 311. I’d rather have Come Original than Amber, but it’s all good. It’s a good range of 311 songs.

  • Chucklestyle says:

Beautiful Disaster was always one of those “why does GH have this and not RB” songs. Down is a cool tune and should be fun on harmonies. Amber will be fun for annoying my roommate.

  • Toad3000 says:

I’ve been told before that my unabashed love for the “Blue” self-titled 311 album means I’m “not a 311 fan”. That said, obviously I’m buying Down. Beautiful Disaster and Amber are decent enough tracks, I’ll probably buy the whole 3-pack. Holding out hope that someday we’ll add All Mixed Up and Don’t Stay Home to the RB library…

  • Rockox says:

    My money is safe.

  • Andrew Curry says:

Amazing, definitely getting the entire pack, Amber will definitely be a favorite to play

  • Joe Cam says:

Hell fucking yes. I am so happy with this pack!

  • VolTRH says:

Harmonix are really hitting my nostalgia center lately.

Keep up the good work, Harmonix!

  • Pood LeFache says:

Not a huge 311 fan, but Harmonix definitely picked the most popular songs, so I may pick up the whole pack anyway.

Betraying my age, but we used to try to play “Down” as a goof in my old high school band, so playing that in Protar should be amusing. I can’t help but always think of the A.C. cover (titled “311 Sucks!”) when I think of “Down”, though, ha ha ha.

  • dlauthor says:

Just the other day Beautiful Disaster was on the radio*, and lamented that they should be in RB. Not my favorite band, but I’ll gladly get the pack because I am old and this music reminds me of being in my 20s.

    * A means of transmitting music through the air. No, not wireless Internet. Never mind.

  • Anaconda says:

Aaaand another pack from “mainstreamish” rock band from late 90…
Another week of songs fun only for fans of that band because instruments are pretty much bland and non interesting to play ;/ Another pass

  • Chas says:

“Down” is one of those songs that I’ve been waiting for for a while. Hopefully we get some more good ’90s songs soon.

  • samjjones says:

311 is one of the more well-known bands from the 90’s that was missing. It’s a good pick.

Now if only HMX can get their hands on some more 90’s “touchstone” stuff like some tunes from the American Pie soundtrack (namely, “You Get What You Give”, “Laid”, and “Flagpole Sitta”), more Collective Soul, Toad the Wet Sprocket, etc. Crap I used to hear in the bars when I was 21 and going out all the time.

    • samjjones says:

Dah, New Radicals not on American Pie soundtrack. Want that song, anyway!

    • Tim the Enchanter says:

      you forgot Closing Time

    • Anonymouse says:

If you’re going to request song from American Pie OST you need to include Tonic – You Wanted More

    • RockBandAide says:

Also, here is my “dream” 90s alternative “not-as-popular” playlist (for Rock Band or just on my iPod):

      Cake – I Will Survive
      Dada – Dizz Knee Land
      Dandelion – Weird Out
      Elastica – Car Song
      Fuel – Shimmer
Gin Blossoms – Found Out About You
God Lives Underwater – No More Love
Goo Goo Dolls – Long Way Down
      Hum – Stars
      James – Laid
      Leah Andreone – It’s Alright, It’s Ok
Letters to Cleo – Here & Now
Matthew Sweet – Sick of Myself
      Meat Puppets – Backwater
Monster Magnet – Negasonic Teenage Warhead
      Poe – Angry Johnny
      PUSA – Lump (AORB)
      Rentals – Friends of P
Soul Coughing – Super Bon Bon
      Sponge – Wax Ecstatic
Stone Roses – Love Spreads (AORB)
      Superdrag – Sucked Out
Toad the Wet Sprocket – Walk on the Ocean
      Tracy Bonham – Mother Mother
      Tripping Daisy – I Got a Girl
      Veruca Salt – Volcano Girls
      Verve Pipe – Photograph
      Violent Femmes – Kiss Off
      Wax – California
      Wheatus – Teenage Dirtbag

      • Ospero says:

What exactly do you mean by “not as popular”? Lesser known songs – in which case, what the hell is “Teenage Dirtbag” doing on that list? Was there a bigger Wheatus hit I’m not aware of? (Also, that song is from 2000.)

Also, I’d rather have “Iris” from the Goo Goo Dolls, but that’s probably just me. And, obviously, “Hey Jealousy” rather than “Found Out About You”.

        • RockBandAide says:

Most (not all) of the songs I listed weren’t Top 40 hits, and most (again, not all) weren’t even the band’s most popular hit.

Plus, these were songs *I* loved, and is by no means complete (what music playlist ever is?). I don’t expect anyone to like exactly the same songs.

          • samjjones says:

The HMX dudes are generally hip to all kinds, but most of them are a bit “younger”, and might not necessarily appreciate how much these songs mean to a certain age range. For people in their mid-late 30’s, those songs are huge.

And since they have been focusing on Billboard “hits”, these songs are not going to come up in those searches.

We should figure out a way to organize the community to get some of this stuff pushed up on the Facebook request list a bit. Like pick one band or song, and see if we can get “New Radicals” or “James” into the top 50 most requested list. Just to get some eyeballs on it.

          • Plainclothes Man says:

Mr.Samjjones… That is an excellent idea! What artist/song should we try first???

      • KStrickTech says:

Hell yeah on CAKE, bud! I’ve been wanting a massive CAKE pack for years.

Same with Gin Blossoms (they ARE the quintessential 90’s band, to me)

I think I’d buy 2/3rds of those if they ever came to fruition. `

      • Toad3000 says:

Holy crap, I just picked up Dizz Knee Land from iTunes a few months back when it popped into my head for no reason. Hadn’t thought of that song in years. I don’t think I know Car Song, the Elastica song I’d want is Connection. Which thanks to the advertisements on MTV back in the mid-90’s, also reminds me that I want Cannonball by the Breeders.
I will pretty much buy any songs that come to RB from Toad the Wet Sprocket (in case my forum name doesn’t give it away), Gin Blossoms, or Fuel.

      • RBGHfam says:

Yes please to Shimmer, I will Survive, Laid and Angry Johnny…heres my 90’s list of bands not in RB yet. “Very popular” drunken singer edition.

Mother love bone – Chloe Dancer
        Pulp – Common People
        Ben Folds Five – Army
        Afghan whigs – Debonair
Days of the New – Shelf in the Room
Mad Season – River of Deceit
        Our Lady Peace – Clumsy
Temple of the Dog – Hunger Strike
        Everlast – Ends
The Verve – The Drugs Don’t Work

        • samjjones says:

I prefer the William Shatner version of “Common People”.

I’d buy anything off of “Has Been”, actually.

          • RBGHfam says:

😀 …..I’ve actually never heard that.

          • samjjones says:

Not to pimp it or anything…but “Has Been” is actually a pretty good spoken-word kind of album. Aimee Mann, Joe Jackson, and Henry Rollins are on it, and Ben Folds basically wrote and arranged most of the songs.

            Check it out.

      • Epsilon says:

I would pay ten dollars for Teenage Dirtbag all by itself.

      • Rockox says:

Holy crap someone other than myself likes (or has even heard of) Dada and Poe. Nice.

        • RockBandAide says:

I saw Poe in concert back in “the day.” (Although, I do believe they were free tickets.)

          • Rockox says:

You lucky bugger. Apart from various guest spots over the years, she’s pretty much fallen off the face of the earth since she got into legal troubles with her label.

I’d love to see her stuff in RB (especially anything from Haunted, my personal fave). Any Dada would be welcome, but I’d really dig stuff from Puzzle or their self-titled 1997 album.

      • Joe Cam says:

Name dropping God Lives Underwater made my day. Sadly David Reilly passed away (singer) and Jeff Turzo has no interest in doing anything with the band or it’s music anymore.
I still hope Gravity Kills will find it’s way to the game someday… Them and Stabbing Westward.

    • Hayden says:

I’ve never seen American Pie, but Bic Runga has a song on the soundtrack and I’ve been wanting Bic Runga for years. I don’t think it’ll ever happen, but I’m totally prepared for people to complain that week if it does.

    • Lord Mhoram says:

I’d love some Toad. That would be epic.

  • Anonymouse says:

Score 311. I only wish Amber was the pro guitar track.

  • Augustus says:

I’ll get Down because it has the pro upgrade. I’d get the others but it seems lately the five button songs I buy I never play.

  • ryumitch1 says:

never heard of them over here in the UK, enjoy everybody who want’s them.

  • RBGHfam says:

Not jumping up and down (no pun intended) but it is a new band and I can see this being fun for karaoke nights.

  • HM says:

No “Sunset in July”? Now I have to think aout it more…

  • ThisIsMyBoomstick says:

I only have two words: Hell Yes.

  • gameboy673 says:

311 is not my cup of tea, but I know that they’ve been pretty heavily requested so, to everyone who requested them, enjoy. I do remember kind of liking Beautiful Disaster from GHWT, so I might pick that one up, but I’m already behind on DLC because I didn’t bring my PS3 with me to college.

  • ninjasweetheart says:

When I caught the announcement the other day that this weeks artist would be “brand new to RB” my first guess was: crappy radio friendly pop-rock band.

I am totally clairvoyant with Rock Band… Or RB DLC is just sad and predictable these days. Hmm. Please stop phoning it in, Harmonix. Well. Doesn’t matter. Rocksmith just arrived 😀 gonna go play that instead.

    • LCS says:

Yea I had hopes it’d be something awesome like Springsteen or Eagles. Then I came back to reality the next minute and realized it’d be something craptacular.

Good thing I bought a ton of on-sale DLC to keep me occupied for a while.

    • Duke says:

“Phoning it in” = library of 4,000 songs with 1,100 recently discounted to 50% off.

“Doesn’t matter. Rocksmith just arrived.” So? Is that supposed to be an insult? No one else last week said “Doesn’t matter. Borderlands 2 just arrived.”

      • ninjasweetheart says:

I know, right? I own around 400 of those songs and bought around 40 alone last week in the sale. That’s what happens when the tiniest gateway opens, I gleefully give HMX my money. But not for this, not the past year or so it seems for new content. I go back to thinking if RB is doing something wrong, or I’m just no longer their target demographic.

As one the few Pro guitarists out there left, yes, that Rocksmith comment probably was meant as an insult. Don’t worry, you’re probably not the only one who forgets Pro guitar exists 😉

        • samjjones says:

Just for giggles, can you give a brief list here of the type of content that you’d like to see them get, and we can probably reach some logical conclusions as a community as to why one or another hasn’t been seen yet.

The fact that HMX is still going after bands ‘new’ to the platform after 5 years is a signal to me that they haven’t “given up”. They are still working hard. Takes two to tango.

          • Toad3000 says:

Judging by the excitement over Rocksmith, I’d guess “The Black Keys”….Fortunately, we have 6 songs of theirs in RB already.

  • D1Matman says:

My memory of this band escapes me. But I will be taking another dive through the RB DLC Sales bin again this week for some gems!

  • MilesRose says:

Oooo, a very good pack! ^^ I would be picking this up this week, but the sale is still on, so enjoy all who do! :3 I’ll get to it soon enough~

  • MrMet2087 says:

Dont really like, but I know 311 is on a lot of wish lists and requests, so that’s cool I guess

  • Eric says:

This will be the first time I buy Rock band DLC in probably a year plus. About time we got some 311.

  • Wolfbeckett says:

Well, shit. I haven’t downloaded any new songs in probably 4 or 5 months, haven’t even played the game in 2, but Down and Beautiful Disaster earn a play session. Sadly Amber is one of only 2 or 3 songs in 311’s entire catalogue that I really don’t like at all but still, the other 2 are great.

  • Croq says:

I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything by this band, nor do I recognize the name, but as always, I’ll give it a listen. Maybe there will be one or more “Oh, THAT song!” moments… 🙂

    • Croq says:

Okay, so it happened. I do recognize “Beautiful Disaster”. “Amber” sounds like it’s decent. Not really into “Down”.

  • dalton d says:

  • Awesome!! Finally some 311 and three great picks!

  • Croq says:

All we need now is Kelly Clarkson’s version and we could have a “Beautiful Disaster” pack. Her song, the one from 311 that’s coming next week, and the one we already have from The Gufs.

  • Bazoozoo says:

This is great news. I’ve been hoping for a 311 pack for a long time! 😀

  • wiibaron says:

After a LONG DRY summer, finally fall blows in and brings my first 3-pack buy in ages! I can’t wait to 420, and play 311 on 10/2! But All Mixed Up shoulda been there too…

  • Rix311 says:

I love 311, one of my favorite bands so obvious buy for me. I’d just like to point out that I never complained about how they were never available before and what a tragedy that a favorite band of mine wasn’t in the game. Patience and hope eventually paid off and now I am excited to play 311! Just food for thought next time anyone feels like complaining about why (insert band here) isn’t in the game.

  • toshineon says:

Not my cup of tea, but it’s nice to see a bit of variety.

  • MattyT says:

I dig this pack – been wanting 311 for a long time. I feel this parallels the Bush pack, in terms of putting out a 3-pack of well known tracks to gauge interest for possible future releases from the artist.

Because, oh my goodness, Creatures (for a while) is my mo’fuggin’ JAM, and I’d love to get that in 311 Pack 02.

  • Tom Bomb says:

Surprised to see so much negativity about 311 on here.

Not only was I looking forward to seeing this band in RB, but the songs I really wanted were Amber and Beautiful Disaster. I’m definitely buy the pack next week 🙂
