DLC for 8/28 (Wii only): 3 Rock Band Blitz singles

With Rock Band Blitz coming out next week for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, we learned from Harmonix earlier that there will be no other DLC for those platforms, however there will be for the Nintendo Wii. We will post our review of the game on Monday, and will have something special this afternoon, but for the Wii players that are feeling left out in the cold, here is what you guys and gals will have next week.
- Barenaked Ladies – One Week
- Foo Fighters – These Days
- Queen – Death on Two Legs

That’s a pretty good compromise for Wii players.
Good and bad for Wii players I guess. You still get the songs, but at a much higher price overall.
HOWEVER, Wii players now have the option to bypass Moves Like Jagger and We Are Young, which makes me jealous.

Not hating on Fun., their other songs are great. It’s just that We Are Young has been overplayed on my local radio to the point where I want to throw the radio through a window every time it’s played.
sorry but LAME. i hate beeing on a Wii. I mean really 3 songs out of 25? and one is a QUEEN DEEP CUT? Another one is Foo Fighters (from whom we have 289423847239423 songs already?). this is the first time i’ve complained about DLC but this has to be a joke.
and all of this for 3 bucks. so disapointed, really.

Wii owners complain about not getting Rock Band Blitz. So HMX releases the tracks as standalone DLC.

not complaining about getting standalone DLC. I’m complaining about the song selection. There’s at least 9 artists out of that 25 songs list that are new to the platform or have never had any DLC. There are huge hits. We get 2 songs by arguably de artists that have more DLC in the whole catalogue and one of those songs is a deep cut. that’s what i’m complaining about.
RockBandAide Reply:

But up until 46 minutes ago, you didn’t have ANY songs from Rock Band Blitz on the Wii. Instead of complaining about the songs you DON’T get, how about being positive and look at what you DO get.

I think that the REAL good (and fair) thing for Wii users would be to release ALL of the songs, not just pick three of them. I mean, I don’t see a licensing issue happening here, if the songs are licensed to be available in RB3, they could be released for Wii.
(Unless that’s a Nintendo thing, and in this case I stand corrected, or if Harmonix is going to release them all in small packs, what would be really cool.)

“I don’t see a licensing issue happening here…”
That doesn’t mean there isn’t one. I’m 99% convinced there is one. Considering how many parties need to have “their taste,” I virtually guarantee it’s a licensing thing. The issue is who’s the “stick in the mud.”
T Reply:

It’s not about what’s “fair”, it’s about what’s “possible”. We don’t know the licensing behind these three songs comparred to the rest of the setlist.
There could be any number of variables that keep HMX from releasing these on the Wii until a time in the future. And we won’t be privy to that info from HMX as they have a well-known policy about not discussing licensing agreements publically.

There are games for the Wii, but games that rely heavily on DLC to increase longevity suffer on it. It’s good people have Rock Band available for the Wii, but it’s not meant for this type of game.
Very nice gesture.
Just 3 songs? I mean, I know I really, really wanted “These Days”, but wow, 3 out of 25…

Well, just as an example, someone asked on Formspring yesterday about what was the deal with the Pearl Jam project. The other big thing was the Rock Band Japan project. It’s not uncommon for songs to be pulled at the last second, either (see week in June with Incubus, or Miley’s “Party in the USA” snafu).
Any time you’re dealing with licensed music, you are at their mercy, and have to play their ridiculous hoop-jumping game. I swear that sometimes they pull the carpet out from underneath licensing deals just to get themselves off.

Agreed. RB:Blitz could be considered to be a huge DLC pack with a game as a bonus. And, at $15 for 25 songs, it’s arguably the most reasonably priced batch of songs we’ve ever gotten (not including sales, like when they offered the huge CCR first pack for $5).
T Reply:
August 24th, 2012 at 10:22 am
Haha, I remember smacking my head against the desk at the $5 CCR week. That was my favorite pack alongside Colour and the Shape. I had already bought it and played through about 5 times before that sale!

Yeah, me too. I’m not sorry I paid full price, as I felt it was well worth the $$$. Knowing that I could have gotten it for $5 not much later though does kind of nag at me a bit though…
T Reply:

I’ve come to accept it as the risk/reward. I got to play the full CCR collection on Day 1 and enjoyed it quite a bit. And just like retail, you never know if/when it will go on sale.
The only difference between retail and DLC is that there’s no risk of it becoming unavailable prior to any sale price.

We’ll agree to disagree. Next weeks release is a game that happens to have songs that work in RB3. In my opinion the streak is over. Not that I’m upset. Like about 80% of the songs in Blitz. Plus “dlc” is released on tue. If I’m not mistaken Blitz comes out on wed. I’m sure most fanboys will agree with you but for me the streak is over.

We got the Valentine’s Duet pack on a Friday. That week gave us two DLC releases, one on Tuesday and one on Friday, and no DLC the following week. Thus, streak has been over for years!
T Reply:

Not to mention that we could download this and play the 25 songs in RB3 without ever going starting up Blitz.
The streak lives regardless of how deseprately some people want something to whine about.
RockBandAide Reply:

What I think it ultimately comes down to is the argument “Did Harmonix release DLC for Rock Band this week?”
Breaking it down logically, DLC = downloadable content, so the answer is clearly YES, as new content is available to be played in Rock Band 3 this week. It is not in the form of traditional DLC, but regardless there is NEW content to be played in Rock Band 3, so I don’t see how this breaks any streak.

I struggle to understand the mindset that could lead one to split hairs about something so utterly trivial.
But I also find utterly laughable the notion that a week in which at least 5 times as many songs as average become available constitutes the end of a streak of content delivery. It’s like saying my streak of eating a ham sandwich for lunch every day ended today because today my ham sandwich came with a free bag of potato chips.
T Reply:
August 27th, 2012 at 1:50 pm
Well, you see, the ham sandwhich was on RYE today intsead of WHEAT. And you ate it at 1pm instead of noon…hence STREAK OVER!
Glad to see HMX doing something to try and compensate for the lack of RBB on the Wii. And while Wii owners will miss out on that title (And pay a higher price for all 25 songs) they also have the option of skipping some of the songs if they so choose.
So if you’re looking forward to the gameplay, it sucks…but at least you won’t lose out on the songs.
RickC32 Reply:

I don’t think Wii is getting all 25 songs, just the 3 listed.
Croq360 Reply:
August 24th, 2012 at 9:50 am
Which is what many of the Wii owners were asking for. Basically, if they couldn’t get RBB (which of course having RBB would have been the preferred option), then could HMX figure out a way for them to get the DLC.
HMX has at least figured out a way to get 3 of the songs available. Hopefully, they are also trying to work with the music owners to get at least some of the remaining titles available too…
T Reply:

My guess is the three above were licensed different due to being a part of the demo. They had to be available “for free” and be playable seperate from the full setlist.
So that language made it easier for HMX to get them on Wii. The rest may take more work, and I admit I’m not familiar enough with Nintendo’s policy on Wii DLC to know if they could do the other 22 all at once or have to pad future weeks with one or two as we go.
From what I can tell from the official announcement, there’s no pack. The 3 songs are only available as singles. Maybe change the Subtitle to “3 demo/trial singles from Rock Band Blitz”?

Never thought I’d be jealous of Wii owners. The only songs I really want from Blitz are “These Days” and “Death on Two Legs,” and I don’t want to pay 15 bucks for a game I’ll only play a few times and 18-20 songs I’d hate to have in my library. Oh well.

But hey, we’ll see, right?
Great news for us Wii owners!!!!! Waiting for Collective Soul’s to come next week.
Well at least we are getting some, I know the rest are coming, but why not make a track pack for the Wii “Songs of Rock Band Blitz 1″?
I also expect most song to show up on Wii at some point, since on the web site it says “Download Content” for all the songs, not “Rock Band Blitz”
Mcmax3000 Reply:

They’re probably listed on the website as DLC because they’re listed as DLC in Rock Band 3 (instead of having a separate Rock Band Blitz section when you sort by source).
Don’t remember where I read/heard that, but I distinctly remember somebody from Harmonix saying that.
T Reply:

A “Rock Band Blitz” themed track pack disc wouldn’t change anything, as the issue is still the lack of a download for all 25 songs in the game’s library.

Wii doesn’t even have High Definition picture quality, that must be a real blur. . .i find playing on 720p on my Xbox bad enough :O (I only play on 720p when i’m recording). 360 player here, but I’m going to take a wild guess and assume that a lot of people wouldn’t want to make another $300 investment in a new console just for one game which is already available on the one they use (albeit an inferior version), especially if they already own the game for their current system, along with dlc that they won’t exactly just be able to transfer over, and expensive peripherals that are becoming extremely hard to find these days. Also Wii users don’t get free dlc, no clue where you got that idea from.

See that’s the difference between us, i’m a hardcore RB player where as your a casual player. I don’t class RB as a game but rather a hobbie, an expensive hobbie i must say.
I’ve spent somewhere near the lines of £4000/$6000 on this franchise since the release of Rock Band 1, this includes Downloadable songs (current dlc stands at 1517 dlc/ 1134 rbn)
1. Ion Drum Rocker. Mod’s for Ion Kit – Alesis Drum pads, Pintech TC Cymbals, Alesis Drum Pad, Iron Cobra Pedal, Destroyer Pedal, Kickbox, 5x pairs of drumsticks.
2. Guitar/Bass. Logitech Wireless Guitar, Stratocaster Guitar (RB3 ver), Rock Band 3 Wireless Mustang Pro Guitar, x3 GH Xplorer controllers.
3. Vocals. 2x Wireless Singstar mics, 1x Offical RB Mic.
oh and let’s not forget the software/exports – Rock Band 1/2/3, Lego Rock Band, AC/DC Live, Green Day Rock Band.
Other benefit’s are Picture quality (HD) like i mentioned, and better sound quality (Dolby Digital Surround Sound) etc, which is a must have.
As for the free DLC on Wii do a Youtube search, but i don’t think you can use the content online.

Don’t be so quick to jump to conclusions. I’ve been playing RB since Christmas of 07. I play on 360, have nearly 2000 songs, including all exports, have gone through I don’t even know how many peripherals, currently using an Ion kit, the Mad Catz keyboard, Mustang for pro guitar, The premium wooden Strat controller for standard guitar, I’ve got a standard plastic RB Strat for backup, and 3 wireless Lips mics. You’ve just got to put yourself in their shoes. There are people out there who started their RB collection on the Wii and if I had spent so much on the Wii version I sure as hell wouldn’t be anxious to switch over.
