Thursday Throwback: “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler

For this week’s pick I turn to one of the few artists featured in the Rock Band platform that is one of my father’s favorite artists, and was featured in one of the mixed artist packs released last year. Guessed who it is yet? Bonnie Tyler, of course!
Bonnie Tyler is a country/rock singer who has had an extremely successful and lengthy career since she started in 1975, which includes fifteen studio albums, along with many nominations and awards over the years. Total Eclipse of the Heart is from her 1983 album Faster Than the Speed of Night. It is Tyler’s most successful song, which peaked at #1 in the US, UK, Australia and Canada, and sold around 6 million copies. The song was featured in Rock Band as part of the Heartache Duets pack released at Valentine’s Day last year.
This mammoth of a song (clocking in nearly seven minutes long) is great fun to play (along with the rest of the pack). The song begins with 3-tier keys / 4-tier Pro keys single notes, and then progresses to three-note chords for the rest of the song. 4-tier haromies feature some quick verses, which will test your timing, but are fun for all the singers. 4-tier guitar takes a back step from the other instruments, with chords and fast shifting sections, although not overly difficult, it has a lot of variety to the chart. The same goes for 4-tier Pro drums, which ranges from a few yellow cymbals, to a full on chart with a mixture of cymbals, bass pads, and bass pedals. 1-tier bass is the weakest, which features long sustains or lots of strumming.
Got any ideas for any artists we haven’t featured yet? Or different songs by artists we have featured? Any ideas would be great!
After looking through this site, why don’t you head on over to my growing fansite, The Tribute Pages which features loads of tributes of video games, TV shows, and movies.
