DLC for 8/21
This week we found out the rest of the Rock Band Blitz setlist, and with the game coming out on the 28th, or 29th if you’re on Xbox 360, this is our last piece of DLC before Blitz comes out. Let’s see what’s coming…
- The Black Keys – Tighten Up
- The Black Keys – Howlin’ for You
- The Black Keys – Lonely Boy *
* Denotes Pro-Guitar/Bass chart availability for $.99.

First week since CCR that I’ve been genuinely indifferent. I’ll probably only pick up “Tighten Up”.
Happy for the fans, though.
Seriously depressed by no inclusion of either Gold on the Ceiling or Little Black Submarines. Although I did have a feeling this was coming soon.

Little Black Submarines is such a great song, but I feel like the first 2 minutes would have been pretty boring to play in Rock Band

Howlin’ for You is really the breakout hit for the band, and Lonely Boy was a strong follow-up.
So if they’re limited to three packs going forward, that’s a great way to kick start their reintroduction to the library.
Solid 3-pack, will buy it the second it comes out!
Howlin For You is pretty decent and I know some have been clamoring for more BK so good for them…sad we are missing out on Gold on the Ceiling though….
Curious also if there will be a release on the 28th to coincide with RBB and whether they’ll go small bc of that releasing or try to hit it outta the park.

I asked HMXhenry during one of the livestreams if RBB was going to be the only DLC for 8/28 and the answer I got was “For the most part, yes”. That either means there isn’t any, or it’s going to be small.

I think they’ll release a single just to keep the streak alive.
Because the Blitz stuff is “packaged” with the Blitz game (and the songs packaged within won’t be available via the store), so they will be a hole in music store for this week without at least one standalone track, right?

I bet we’ll get a 1-song DLC week, sort of like when Subdivisions came out the week after RB3.

That’d make sense. You figure most of people’s RB related spending will be on the new Blitz title, so they release a song or two alongside it more to keep the streak alive than to really blow people out of the water.

My bet: RB3 versions.
I’m felling “Juke Box Hero”, “Bring me to Life” and “Any Way You Want It”.

Hmm. I’d gladly buy all three of those, but somehow I don’t see it happening.
No go for me. That’s fine though, I’ll be enjoying a nice chunk of songs soon enough when Blitz comes out.
Meh, not for me but cool for those wanting. Hard to be disappointed with dlc when Blitz almost here. Wonder if we’re getting regular dlc that week ?
These sound like they’d be fun songs. I haven’t heard them before, but gave them a listen on YouTube and they sound good. I liked the first pack (hadn’t heard any of those either prior to the pack release), so I’ll probably grab these too.

It’s the type of music you listen in a movie oftenly… as example, the first time I listened “Howlin’ for You” was in “Limitless” intro…
Huh, somehow I had myself convinced that Blitz was coming out on the 21st instead of the 28th. Oh well.
From the hint HMX released on Facebook yesterday, I had assumed today’s announcement was going to be either the Black Keys or the Killers. Would’ve rather had the Killers, but will happily pick up Lonely Boy. Will probably skip the other two tracks.

Good guesses.
I *have* to think that we’ll see The Killers again some day.
They are one band that young dudes and old dudes can appreciate.

I agree… I had a hunch that we could get either Killers or Black Keys… I think we will see another Killers pack soon…

I’m happy with this weeks DLC!
But can I ask why you had a hunch we would see The Killers this week? I don’t follow twitter or facebook so I don’t usually see or hear or clues from Harmonix. If The Killers are going to reappear in Rockband I would have thought it would be closer to their new album Battle Born being released around October time..
Not that I’m saying it would guarantee it…Otherwise we would be getting Bloc Party’s “Four” this week (I wish!)

Aren’t The Killers just a tribute band for The Cure?

I had a feeling it would be Neon Trees since their new album is hot shit (in both meanings of that term) right now. If only I had picked the other artist that week…
The Black Keys have been all over the place lately, I’ve kind of gotten tired of them. But those are some pretty solid song choices, I may pick this up. I’ll wait for the charts.
This is awesome, this is the first band off my dashboard wishlist to come out since the dashboard came out. Buying everything!
This is probably the most excited I’ve been for a DLC pack since The Doors or Yes. Definitely picking up the whole pack.
Awesome! I would’ve have replaced Howlin’ For You with Sinister Kid or Gold On The Ceiling.
I like The Black Keys and even saw them open for Kings of Leon. But a lot of dudes with Rocksmith are sick of them since they have like 50 songs in the game. I’m surprised HMX didn’t reup on them sooner since they got really popular these last few years.
Nothing difficult but very catchy songs. I think pack 1 has better songs IMO. I was hoping for a guitar pro upgrade of that pack as well but that doesn’t seem to be an HMX business model anymore
I’m over this band. I don’t really remember what song it was but I thought it was annoying as hell. Then they cancel a leg of a tour they were doing citing exhaustion. Not a hospitalized exhaustion, just the fact that they were tired and ready for the tour to end. You are LIVINIG YOUR DREAM! Suck it up.
In conclusion I’ll be skipping this week’s dlc.
P.S. Sorry for the rant.

They’ve had some moves that have turned off some people. They pulled El Camino from the streaming services like MOG and Spotify because of the crappy split payments to the artists. Plus they’ve had a couple of lawsuits for people using their stuff which is obviously their right but still upsets people.
First DLC I’ve been excited about in months!
Which is also a semi-bad thing…I recently re-downloaded my entire Rock Band library to a new PS3 HDD and have been re-playing my 1110 songs to register stars on them – because I’m a bit OCD over having all my songs show as played and it’s a ton of fun – but until now, I’ve been able to steadily decrease the number of songs left to play and now I have to increase it one week earlier than the looming increase of 25 songs.

Holy…that’s quite the project! I had similar but with 800 or so songs and I still have a couple hundred to go. Let alone use my keyboard ever, drums (that’s what my one RB pal plays), just started Expert Bass.
For completionists/collectors, the Rock Band platform is a huge blessing/curse coin flip. Oh yeah and then I have the Guitar Hero platform that I’m still only like 30% complete on.
I may just skip the next console generation for up to 2 years while playing Rock Band and a bunch of XBLA content I’ve never had the time for.

since about the beginning of the month I’ve played around 230 songs…I anticipate it taking until about December to get them all played
I’m also (mostly) going in order by guitar song difficulty
so by November/December I’m going to have only the hardest songs left
wheee
Never heard of them. Pass.

Ditto. Sounds interesting, but that fuzzy FX-laden quality sounds like it would be grating after the second song.
Brothers was one, and still is, one of my favourite albums at the moment. I’m so happy tighten up will be on the store soon. Great pack
Hadn’t had any experience with them before addong the first pack to my collection long after it was released. If these songs are half as good, I’ll be happy with them. Another “buy all” week.

I could care less. The band is still terrible. Slow distorted guitar riff followed by the singer talking in a distorted voice for 4 minutes.

Which one was a “big word” exactly?
Getting full pack. Haven’t done that since the foster the people pack. Unfortunately, it seems like Wii won’t be gettng any Blitz stuff since nobody has said aything…
I’m so over people saying “insert band” sucks!!! Grow the fuck up. Music is subjective. I don’t believe in bad music. Just music I don’t care for or that doesn’t appeal to me. I don’t like The Black Keys, doesn’t mean they suck! Bands that get ragged on all the time Obviously sell lots of records. Just because you or I don’t like said band doesn’t mean millions others Don’t this attitude is immature and completely useless. Rant over!

All true, except in the case of Nickelback. They objectively suck.
Ospero Reply:

Yes, I know you’re being facetious, but “objectively suck”? That’d be something that’s inexpertly played: instrumentalists making mistakes, singers missing notes, lousy mixes (and that last does apply to established artists; I don’t believe anyone thinks that Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” is well-produced). I’m not a huge Nickelback fan by any means, but I never understood the hatred they pick up in the USA. Do these critics believe that people would start buying “real rock” music again the instant Nickelback vanished off the face of the earth?

Not a Nickleback fan, but I think the criticism against them is a social meme more than anything. One radio caller defended them, saying that while they weren’t deep or complex, they were catchy and predictable – you know what you’re getting every time, and thats okay. There are other, more popular bands that are really no different in that respect.
Just watched the Howlin for You music video!!
“I once choked a chupacabra with my bare hands for not saying grace.”
“What???”
“Don’t ask! … You will never know what I’m talking about.”
Hilarious!
Thanks to this week, I’ll be moving from zero Black Keys songs to three
I wish it was “Next Girl” with a Pro Guitar upgrade, just so I could put my l33t Rocksmith learnin’s to use…
This is an effing awesome 3-pack.

Agreed. This is an instant purchase for me. I’ve been waiting to actually play KEYS on a Black KEYS song. Wait well worth it.
Love this pack. I own everything they’ve ever released going back to The Big Come Up. Definite buy.
What a great surprise. I’m picking this up.
Was hoping for the first two songs ever since their first DLC. Lonely Boy is a huge plus. Definite buy.
Seriously some Pink Floyd would be nice. Like “Time”, “Wish You Were Here”, “Another Brick In The Wall”, especially “Hey You” I love that song.
I’ll get Lonely Boy because I actually like it.
However, most of their tunes give me a headache with their faux-shitty recording quality and irritating buzz on every instrument.
getting the whole thing!!! awesome pack!
