Chart Wars: Finger Eleven – “Paralyzer”

This week I decided to feature another song that’s been in quite a few games, fbeing available on the RBN, Band Hero, DLC for Rocksmith, and even being one of only two master tracks on Rock Revolution! I am speaking about Canadian hard rock band Finger Eleven’s “Paralyzer”.

Thanks to thenewnoelisoncruz for making a video comparing GH/RB/RR!

I love videos that compare charts from different games.

The RB one has always been a bit awkward to play, but from the looks of it, the GH one seems to be even more awkward. The RR one was just missing stuff that the other games had so it loses.

Yeah, right at the beginning. Rock Band is immediately correct because you’re strumming a chord, not pushing 3 buttons in sequential order.

    VolTRH Reply:

Um… both charts have extended sustains charted. What are you on about.

    HM Reply:

Just on how Guitar Hero’s chart has them one after the other instead of one 3-note chord together.

    VolTRH Reply:

You might want to watch that video again…

I dunno, there’s nothing correct about the Guitar Hero one…

    VolTRH Reply:

The RB engine doesn’t allow for extended sustains like what GH has. To get around that, people have charted songs like this (even Harmonix did for “Free Bird”). Both ways of charting are played the same, are charted for the same reasons, and are both musically incorrect.

  • Nick says:

Geez. You have to wonder if whoever charted the RR or GH versions even understood what a chord is.

  • VolTRH says:

The RBN charted many chords as single notes during the verses, but both chart the choruses well enough.

GH charted the solo better, got the HOPOs where they were supposed to be, whereas RBN charted non-existent chords throughout it.

Three note chords are debatable, however I think in this case GH’s use of them were acceptable.

Guitar Hero wins this one for me.

    More points:

GH charted the palm mutes in the pre-chorus, RBN didn’t.

The first note of the main riff is not a chord, yet RBN charted it as such.

Extended sustains are present in both charts. Had this been main HMX DLC, they probably wouldn’t be present in the RB chart.

    Agreed.

Liked the comparison video lots, quite a bit easier than watching three individual ones and trying to remember which did what.

Also I hadn’t heard the track before, sounded good enough to check out the album now.

    OsagaTheGreat Reply:

Yeah, this week I was fortunate enough to actually find a video of all the charts together. Most of the time, especially when there is a cover involved, there will be three separate videos.

  • pancho says:

Even if HMX wasn’t directly involved in the charting, the RB chart looks better.

  • Sans says:

I noticed that GH added notes where there was no Guitar.

    Sans Reply:

    At 1:09 is one example.

    Nick Reply:

Are you surprised? GH is known for overcharting.

Don’t really care which chart is “better”, but I would like to thank you for calling my attention to this awesome song that I had never heard of before.

  • Random says:

Rocksmith has the best chart obviously.

Playing this on Band Hero was annoying as hell especially the parts where it goes RB, Y, O, RB… I just cannot do that at all! Far too awkward to hit.
