Thursday Throwback: Roam by the B-52′s

This week’s Thursday Throwback pick comes from a band released as DLC this week. When Harmonix teased future DLC about a month ago, the B-52′s was mentioned. Everyone got excited with the realization that the long awaited single, Love Shack, would appear in the game… And Harmonix deliver! In honor of this song, it was only natural that I featured a much earlier release by the band, Roam.
The B-52′s are an American rock band founded in 1976. Although originally a new wave band, they later evolved into their “party band” pop/rock style, using their trademark “guy vs. girls” vocals. The band has had eight studio albums, most recently with Funplex in 2008.
The most recent track released this week brings the B-52′s tracks in Rock Band to three. First was my featured track, Roam, released in early 2008. Next was Rock Lobster, included on the Rock Band 3 disc, and then finally Love Shack. Roam was featured on the 1989 album Cosmic Thing, and did well in the charts, peaking at No. 3 on the US billboard charts. Considering the popularity of the two most recent tracks, it should come as no surprise that Roam is a great song to play, as well.
Its 1-tier vocals is probably the best part of the track. It’s a shame that no “RB3 Version” has surfaced, as the already fun lyrics and a fun tambourine section during the solo would have been even more spectacular with harmonies. The 3-tier guitar features your usual chord/sustain mix during the verses, with a little fun chord playing at the intro and various other parts of the song. Did I mention it has a solo? The 2-tier bass has a good chart, which you can hear without the song due to the song mix, so will make things a little easier. The 1-tier drums is probably the weakest track on the song, as there’s nothing especially tricky about the chart, so it will be a good warm up song.
Got any ideas for any artists we haven’t featured yet? Or different songs by artists we have featured? Any ideas would be great!
After looking through this site, why don’t you head on over to my growing fansite, The Tribute Pages which features loads of tributes of video games, TV shows and movies. As a bonus, all the previous Throwback Thursday articles are been transferred and updated there too.

I always thought this song was way harder than tier 1. Hard to figure out which part to sing. RB3 version would definitely be welcome here.
Impressive. For some reason I always have trouble when it comes to using my Pinky. I just can’t get it coordinated fast enough to react in time for all the notes :0
