DLC for 7/17

In case you missed it, we learned from @RockBand last night that next week they will announce the release date and price for Rock Band Blitz. No word on the announcement will also include the remaining setlist, but some Blitz news is better than no Blitz news. But before we find that info out, here’s what you can look forward to for next week…

  • The B-52’s – Love Shack *
  • Staind – Not Again
  • Young The Giant – My Body

* Denotes Pro-Guitar/Bass chart availability for $.99.

    OMG YES!

  • Kevin says:

Should have been Cough Syrup, but hey whatever. Staind, that’s it.

  • Croq says:

ONE MILLION PERCENT getting Love Shack, baby!!!! Don’t know the other songs by title, but will give them a listen…

    Whizzer Reply:

Good luck making ten thousand accounts and buying the song on all of them!

    :)

    That’s only 1,600,000 Microsoft points! [Add 800,000 for pro-guitar] Such a bargain! :D

  • Joe Cam says:

Awesome week. I’ve been saying for months that the new Staind was fantastic and should be in RB.

  • Tim the Enchanter says:

I actually like the new Staind album since it sounds more like their roots. I might pick up the song.

  • Gbangr says:

Drake said in the livestream that they would be revealing more blitz songs too. not sure if that meant all remaining songs or not though.

regarding the songs, what is that staind song? of all of the big songs they had we are getting something either new or obscure? No idea who young the giant is.

    Dustinator Reply:

Actually, in the podcast at Gamespot yesterday, they revealed that next week HMX will announce Blitz’s release date price and some more songs. SO EXCITED!!!

  • Gbangr says:

ok now i know the young the giant song with the video…. from the mountain dew commercial.

the staind song is very rocky so i might pick it up but seriously something from 14 shades of grey or break the cycle when they were super popular would be nice.

  • Zindash says:

Young the Giant? That’s awesome! Glad to see we’re getting more alternative stuff that’s played on Altnation. Now I’ll wait patiently for Cough Syrup. And The Shins, and Motion City Soundtrack, and Alkaline Trio, and The Naked and Famous, and Grouplove, and The Black Keys, and MuteMath, and Cage The Elephant. Okay I’m done.

Will have to see the charts for the other two.

    MilesRose Reply:

The Shins are actually on RBN, and the Black Keys have some official DLC as well. Just in case you didn’t know ^^

    Zindash Reply:

I am aware of both actually, I’m just hoping for more of the newer stuff like Gold on the Ceiling, Little Black Submarines, Howlin’ For You, or Next Girl (stuff that’s already on Rocksmith) and Simple Song, Rifle’s Spiral, or hell even It’s Only Life from The Shins latest album

    RockBandAide Reply:

Just because a song is in Rocksmith doesn’t mean it’s possible for Rock Band. They don’t use multi-track masters like Rock Band does, so in theory they can get a LOT more songs than Rock Band can.

    Toad3000 Reply:

Man, you had me up until Grouplove. Bleh. :P

    291j291j Reply:

I would get The Naked & Famous but have a hard time imagining it happening ..
    :L

    LOVE SHACK YESSSSSSSS

Surprised I recognize that Young the Giant song. I hear it on the radio all the time….Might pick it up cause it’s a fun song to sing in the car

  • ocbrad says:

In for Love Shack and My Body. The releases this year have been superb and diverse.

  • LoopyChew says:

Come on, and bring your jukebox money!

  • Nathan says:

I was born in the 90′s so I never realized how popular and awesome Love Shack was until a week ago. And now, it’s in Rock Band?! Hell yeah!

    LCS Reply:

Yea it’ll be awesome at parties. I was surprised I recognized My Body (sounds like something a 13 year old boy would say) and the Staind song didn’t put me back to sleep. Buying all 3.

    nathan Reply:

I like them all too, but probably just getting love shack. I’ll think about the staind song

  • Erik1974 says:

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bitching that “MY personal music” isn’t being offered each and every week. I love the variety RB has even if it’s music I don’t like, there should be something for everyone. But it seems like it’s been a long time since Classic Rock has been offered. Off the top of my head it seems CCR was the last? I noticed on the forums especially, I now fall in the “old person music” category. But I’m a customer too and would like occasional classic rock in the mix. I resorted to getting drunk on the 4th of July and buying over 30 songs I’ve been meaning to get around to buying. But I’m running out of ways to give my money to Harmonix, HMXHenry please don’t give up on us old folks.

    RockBandAide Reply:

I’m pretty sure I saw @HMXHenry say that there was more classic rock coming very soon, but I can’t remember if it was a tweet or on the forums.

    samjjones Reply:

Yeah, there’s some classic rockish stuff in Blitz, and that can’t be more than 6 weeks away at this point :)

I’m pretty sure that I saw a tweet from Aaron about 7 or 8 weeks ago where he mentioned writing the announcements for the next 10 weeks of DLC. So I’m presuming that they had 10 weeks of stuff locked in the schedule at that time. We’re getting near the end of that cycle now.

    Croq Reply:

Yeah, I agree on the classic rock stuff, though I’m really open to most types of music. It was a really nice run since RB3 came out, there was quite a bit of more classic stuff coming out.

I remember reading that HMX said that “new” music is what’s being requested most via that Facebook app they have. My thoughts on that are, “Duh!”. You’re getting song requests from people that are generally going to skew younger, and that would probably mean more “new” stuff getting asked for.

I put in my requests, but none of them are anywhere near the top of the list.

For example, “Twilight Zone” by Golden Earring. I am really glad we already have “Radar Love”, but would kill to get “Twilight Zone”. There are literally hundreds more I could probably think of off the top of my head that I

    Croq Reply:

Grr, not sure what happened there…

There are literally hundreds more I could probably think of off the top of my head that I could add to the list too.

All this being said, HMX does a spectacular job at getting a nice diverse set of music for the game. And I have Rock Band to thank for several bands that I probably never would have heard of otherwise, but love now!

    Erik1974 Reply:

I basically don’t listen to new music at all….except through RB. I agree I have been exposed to plenty of music strictly through this game, which I love. That is why I will never complain about the music they offer each week and it drives me crazy when people bitch about not liking the DLC. Hey give it a try you might like it?! Ever hear of expanding your horizons? My other pet peeve about the DLC complaints is people don’t consider that HMX is a business and if they wish to remain a business they need to sell DLC. If they have to sell Nickelback, Miley Cyrus, whatever, then I don’t mind going a week with out buying something if it means there might be something I like the next week.

So I guess what I’m saying is don’t bitch about DLC but it’s okay to bitch about people who bitch about DLC. Hypocritical? I’m off my soapbox, have a good weekend.

    Erik1974 Reply:

Sorry last thing, I’m with you Croq about the facebook app. I’ll put my favorite Classic Rock groups in and they never are even near the top 100. I’ve always wondered what the average age is of RB players. I’m guessing it’s mostly kids, hence mostly new music ranking high in the app. I’m 38 and none of my friends play the game, I usually end up playing RB with my friend’s kids. They only want to play the new music while I want the old music. I can’t win. Maybe I need new friends.

    samjjones Reply:

They’re not going just by requests in the dashboard app.

    They’re also going by sales.

The reality is that modern music has been outselling the older stuff that HMX has been releasing lately.

    Hence the recent skew.

    Dein Bär Reply:

    Me too.

  • James says:

    >saves just enough MSP to get Tony Hawk’s HD
    >Love Shack comes out the day before.

Why do you do this to me, HMX?!

  • samjjones says:

Count me among the shocked that HMX was able to finally get “Love Shack”…and the studio master, no less. Was the master previously missing? Was the band/label asking for too much in licensing? Does somebody at HMX not like this song?

Inquiring minds want to know. What the hell took so long?

    James Reply:

I’d like to know why it’s not in Blitz, tbh.

    samjjones Reply:

That’s another great question. The song would be a fairly high level one to include.

Perhaps they wanted to be standalone DLC to keep all of the sales, instead of splitting it 25 ways?

    DavidTLynch Reply:

What took so long to get Daughtry? Why wasn’t “Drive” in the Incubus pack last year? What took so long for “Drops of Jupiter” or “Two Tickets to Paradise”? Why do we still not have a lot of songs?

    RockBandAide Reply:

    See #4: http://www.rockbandaide.com/faq/

Answering these questions may seem innocent, but would almost definitely damage sensitive relationships between Harmonix and record companies/management. The truth is probably that whoever is in charge “just doesn’t want to” unfortunately.

    DavidTLynch Reply:

*I* know that; I’m just saying that “Love Shack” is no different from all those other songs, where you can’t speculate on why we didn’t have the songs before without raising questions as to why we DO have them now. Personally, I’m glad we’re getting “Love Shack” now rather than 3 years ago with no keys, harmonies, or pro guitars.

    duske Reply:

It appears that it doesn’t have keys from the preview video.

    RockBandAide Reply:

According to the official announcement, Love Shack does have a keys chart: http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=230466

  • sidd says:

getting everything this week, makes up for last two weeks of DLC.

  • toshineon says:

More Staind?! I cannot express in words how happy that made me, but I literally jumped in joy. I absolutely love Staind, especially now that they have somewhat gone back to their older heavier style :D

  • Thedave says:

Love Shack, will be my 1000th track. Great song for the milestone!

    Croq Reply:

Congrats on the milestone!! (Number 1608 for me, FWIW. :) )

  • I’m surprised that Love Shack got Pro. Didn’t think there was much of a guitar part there.

  • Toad3000 says:

Glad to finally be able to add Love Shack to my RB collection, and while I would’ve preferred Cough Syrup from Young the Giant, I’ll probably pick up My Body. I don’t know the Staind song, but I dislike everything I know by them, so odds are pretty good I won’t buy that track.

    Toad3000 Reply:

and as a side note…when is that picture of the B-52′s from? They look pretty good for their age.

  • Glosoli says:

Indie is where it’s at. We finally get indie and again it’s bland, overplayed “corporate indie”. Please try again Harmonix. Something with some personality like M83 will do.

    Grant Reply:

I’ve been waiting for indie stuff like Arctic Monkeys, The Fratellis, The Cribs for forever now.

    Toad3000 Reply:

Well, we do at least have a three pack of the Fratellis.

    Grant Reply:

Yeah, I forgot about that in the brief time I wrote that comment. It’s my favorite pack.

    RockBandAide Reply:

If it’s “real” indie, and not “corporate indie,” why haven’t the artists put their music on the indie-focused Rock Band Network yet?

    Glosoli Reply:

    That’s a rhetorical question right?

  • HM says:

Man, more blitz news… Getting ready to hear if Wii players are going to get shafted or not.

  • MattyT says:

I’m so tremendously pleased that we’re getting “Love Shack” finally, much less with a Pro Guitar Upgrade.

I was hoping that the next Staind track(s) that we got would be from “Dysfunction”, but any Staind that’s not from “The Illusion of Progress” is good.

Didn’t recognize the Young the Giant track until I watched the video. Yeah, that’s gonna be a fun little track.

  • MrMet2087 says:

Love shack was of course expected, but damn, it sucks the stained song wasn’t its been a while

  • Jack says:

    Love Shack!! Amazing!
This will be a blast on vocals!

  • Phantomahawk says:

I was expecting “Legal Tender”. Failed!

  • rhubarb doom says:

“Love Shack” is being released on the day that The B-52s and Squeeze are playing a show in my town of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Cool for kismet.

Should i take this as a sign that i need to go to the show or stay home and play Rock Band?

Either way, i’m also looking forward to the Young the Giant song. A band i’ve heard of but haven’t heard yet.

    Sans Reply:

Go see the show. You may never have this chance again.

  • expertwinSH says:

Will definitely get Love Shack someday.

  • Eric says:

I’m just a bit disappointed in only getting one B-52′s song. There are easily a least 2 or 3 other songs from them that would be great to have, but now that they just added their most popular song I doubt we will see more for a long time, if ever (given the “recent music” topic above.

    RockBandAide Reply:

This is the third B-52′s song we’ve gotten: http://www.rockband.com/songs/artists/The%20B-52's

    Eric Reply:

Yeah, I knew about “Roam” & “Rock Lobster”. Suppose I should be content in that, seeing as two of thsoe 3 are their best known songs, but when there is a “Disturbed 04 pack” for some reason, makes me a bit jealous.

    RockBandAide Reply:

True, but that’s three more songs than some much bigger bands have in game, though.

But I agree, we still definitely need Own Private Idaho.

    Eric Reply:

Agreed (on both counts!), and nothing to go gamer rage over.
Harmonix has been the best in the entire video game industry as far as DLC implementation/support goes, so I’m really just splitting hairs.
And hoping for my favorite bands to get more tracks! :)

  • Ritchie_Blackmoore says:

Young The Giant? Shouldn’t they be in like RBN DLC? This year seems to be a very mixed bag for HMX DLC. For my taste it has been the worst year so far. B-52′s should be fun though.

    DavidTLynch Reply:

With all the other Roadrunner/WMG artists on RBN?

  • Jason R. says:

You know, I grew very weary of “Love Shack” because of its place as a just wretched karaoke song. But I think it could work on Rock Band, especially at parties. And I am not one of those people who’s like “I hate this song and I therefore hate Rock Band.” I see the bigger picture and I think it could have a lot of appeal.

The other songs don’t really do it for me.

    Toad3000 Reply:

Speak for yourself. At our Rock Band parties, Love Shack will still be a wretched karaoke song. And we’ll love every second of it!

    291j291j Reply:

I absolutely loathe Love Shack. But I agree, I think Harmonix have made a very wise selection there. I can also imagine it would be very popular for RB.
I will also be giving this week a miss for the others

  • Brandon says:

I’ll probably pick up the Staind song, but they really need to release Mudshovel

    Joe Cam Reply:

I’d love all of Dysfunction and all of the self titled. I try to ignore that they ever put out most of those other albums.

  • Davyinatoga says:

Since when has Bono been a member of the B-52s? :V

  • Xanadu says:

I’m looking forward to blitz news. I like what I’ve seen so far.

  • Jerec says:

Love Shack will be a good party song. Never heard of the other two.

  • DSil says:

The announcement will feature more songs, like they said right now in their Facebook page (: https://www.facebook.com/RockBand/posts/252943451488768
