Rush’s 2112 is Coming to Rock Band

Who saw this coming?!?! OK, so Harmonix came through on all the little hints they dropped, and announced this morning that the entirety of Rush’s epic 2112 track will be coming to Rock Band as DLC as three separate playable tracks:
- Rush – 2112: Overture, The Temple of Syrinx *
- Rush – 2112: Discovery, Presentation *
- Rush – 2112: Oracle: The Dream, Soliloquy, Grand Finale *
* Denotes Pro-Guitar/Bass chart availability for $.99.
The pack will be released on December 31, 2011 for the Xbox 360, and January 3rd, 2012 for the PS3 and Wii. (Available in Europe on PlayStation 3 on January 18th.) The tracks are available individually for $1.99, or you can purchase the entire pack for $5.49.
If you purchase the 3-pack, similar to the Abbey Road Beatles DLC, you will also receive one 20-minute marathon medley of all seven parts of the suite, exclusively available in this special pack. And that’s not it! You ALSO will receive the Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrades for all three packages, as well as a Pro Guitar and Pro Bass upgrade for the medley for free! (Xbox 360 and PS3 only.)

I totally did. It really is all one song. So it would be incredibly ODD to only have one charted for pro. And it would also be odd to not chart it pro at all.
Wording might be a little misleading. This is the entirety of the track 2112, not the album.
Also, I think it’s worth mentioning that buying the pack for $5.49 gets you pro upgrades for everything.

That’s mentioned in the post (though I assume it must not have been when you did this comment).

Ha. Yeah, it’s since been fixed. I’m happy with the way it’s worded now. And super excited for this DLC, just wish the PS3 were on the early release bandwagon this time around. Probably easier to pull off in February, I think all of Sony is on vacation this week.

Just another reason I hate my playstation. Wouldve been nice to rock while on vacation. Free pro means I buy this even though I own WOR
Might want to add picking up the pack will also get you the entire 20 minute suite.

Not to mention free pro bass/guitar upgrades. This is well over twenty clams worth of stuff for near-nothing.
Also probably should note that buying the pack gives you a special single 20-minute long track (in addition) for the entire 2112 song.
also worth mentioning that if you get the pack, there’s also a full version with no breaks.
Only for 360/PS3 owners (same as the Abbey Road medley in Beatles RB), but yes. The pack comes with the combined single track version, as well as free protar upgrades. That is one sweet-ass deal!
ATTENTION ALL PLANETS OF THE SOLAR FEDERATION! HARMONIX HAS ASSUMED CONTROL!
Meh, not a Rush fan and these songs are way too long.

oh hell to the yes!
Now I am REALLY pissed I have to work Saturday til midnight.
Never got into Rush but I am definitely buying this. How can you pass up a 20 minute song in Rock Band? Looking forward to playing the bass.
YES!
The Cygnus X-1 duology would have been better, in my opinion, but “2112″ is more iconic and is also truly amazing. Now we just need some Grace Under Pressure through Snakes & Arrows era Rush and I’ll be set.
Thank you Harmonix!

But the world will have ended by then!
Holy shit.
I just noticed that the voice for the hero is charted to the blue while the voice of the priests are charted to the harmonies. This is why I love you Harmonix. And I really appricate you combining Discovery and Prestation together. It just felt weird in Guitar Hero how the those parts were seperated.
This is a deal that pretty much makes everybody happy – people who don’t want to play 20-minute song don’t have to. But purists who want the 20-minute song unabridged also get their way.
Remember when HMX did that arrangement with the Ozzy pack? That was kind of a bummer, but it probably paved the way for something like this. [As well as how Abbey Road was structured, obviously]. I may actually get this pack to try out the 20-minute version.
Obviously, this was coming. The major question was if we would get it as one 20-minute track, and we do. Nice! We need more 20-minute prog rock suites as single tracks (e.g., “The Gates Of Delirium” by Yes, “The Ivory Gate of Dreams” by Fates Warning, “A Change Of Seasons” by Dream Theater).

Don’t forget Karn Evil 9 by ELP.
I hoped this would get the Pro Upgrade, but getting them for free? Happy New Year indeed!

My sentiments exactly. Plus, the seven parts being separated into 3 parts instead of 7 was a pleasant surprise. Even if you don’t get the whole pack, it’s three approximately 6-7 minute tracks all at $1.99 apiece, when it could’ve been further separated.
Once again, Harmonix shows that they are all music fans first with this arrangement.
played it already on guitar hero warrior so …been there played that

True. Which means now that Rock Band has 2112, and they’re not making any new DLC anymore, there’s no reason to ever play Guitar Hero again.

Plus you won’t have to worry about some stupid story interrupting the song after every part. I wanted DLC on my bday (the 3rd) but this I will take.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Whole song for only 440 micro points! YES!
Full 20 minute version of the song! YESSS!
FREE PRO UPGRADES WITH THE PACK! FUCK YESSSSSSSSSSS WHAT A GREAT CHRISTMAS GIFT!
I now have a new mission in life. I already memorized every note of this song, now its time to memorize how to play it on pro expert guitar. Damn its just too bad its still 3 days away!
And i love that picture lol.
I honestly don’t think HMX could have handled this any better. I knew they wouldn’t release all seven parts as individual songs, as some of the clearly aren’t MEANT to stand alone. And this is exactly how I would have split the songs up. Plus, for only $5.49, you’re getting the whole thing, both in parts and as a mammoth track, WITH pro-strings updates for free. Bravo, HMX, bravo.
The only thing that could have made this announcement any better was if they were releasing pro-string updates for some of their other songs, like Limelight or Closer To The Heart. Hopefully those are in the works as well.

Great DLC to end the year
AWWWWWWW yeah!!!!! One piece 2112. I’m going to sell or break my GH:WoR disc now.
Too bad temples/overture are the same as GH, but at least it’s one piece.
I like how they did it like abbey road. I COULD play them separately, but also I could play the whole thing in one sitting. Very cool
This is quite brilliant. I didn’t expect it to sell for the regular price of one song, but it could have been worse.
I get to play the entire song in one go, and free Pro! I won’t complain about that.
And with a bit of luck, this opens up possibilities for other lengthy songs. At least the length is likely no huge stumbling block.
Just curious how the leaderboards are gonna work for this marathon thing. Does it count as a separate song? Separate leaderboards? This is the first of its kind in RB3, how did this work in Beatles, I didn’t bother with Beatles DLC since you of course had to play it in Beatles only along with those higher than normal price points.

Pretty sure each one will have its own leaderboards. So the marathon version has one leaderboard, Overture/Temple of Syrinx has one leaderboard, etc.
nice!
finally
They used the Vault Version. GH used the vault version too
HELL YEAH! This is perfect for the 600 Wii Points I have left.
Sucks that I have to wait until 3rd January though.
I’m so beyond stoked right now, I can hardly contain myself. Harmonix did it right! I knew they would. Can’t wait to get up on Saturday and play this thing for hours.
Absolute PROOF that HMX cares about their fans. I can’t think of any other developer that would do this. $6 to get all three songs PLUS a free 20-minute song PLUS free pro upgrades.
Merry Christmas to you too, HMX.
I wonder I they’re still gonna announce DLC on Friday for the following Tuesday, not to be greedy or anything just wondering, this is amazing and I’m getting closer and closer to just getting rid of my WOR disc. What keeps me coming back is Sappy by Nirvana
Get Yourck guitar to play pro guitar for Christmas

What was the DLC one?
SATURDAY! Weeeeeee!
I was excited when I heard the preview. Great way to end 2011.
I wanted to add the info of 2112 coming to Rock Band to Wikipedia since I saw they have the info about Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock in there too. I wrote the damn thing and not a minute later some kind of douche deleted it claiming “it’s not necessery for an encyclopedia”. I asked him why the info about Guitar Hero is on there then and he said “because the band members provided voice over”.
Stupid. >_>

Looks like the Rock Band reference has been included now, although the header for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is probably unnecessary. When it comes to the cultural significance of the album, I don’t think Guitar Hero deserves any significant recognition over any other items.

Well, I had a longer and more in depth text written and added Rockband in the title haha, but well, better than nothing…
Seeing how Harmonix will be presenting this DLC, it makes me hopeful that they could do something similar for Queensryche’s “Operation: Mindcrime” if they were to ever release full album DLC again. Side 2 of “Mindcrime” has a number of shorter tracks that could be smashed together like these ones are.
