Thursday Throwback: “Bad Moon Rising” by Creedence Clearwater Revival

This week’s pick is one of the newest songs featured in Thursday Throwback, but instantly became a classic upon release for Rock Band. When I first got my PS3 online, one of the first songs I downloaded was this song, so it’s been part of Rock Band for me from the start. It’s a song I’ve been wanting to feature since writing for the site, and it’s now here.
Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival was released in July 2010 as part of a massive 12-pack, which included other hits such as Born on the Bayou, Down on the Corner, and Lookin’ Out My Back Door, just to name a few. The pack also contained the original version of Fortunate Son, the replaced a cover version released as DLC when the original Rock Band was released. The southern rock band more commonly abbreviated as CCR have sold over 30 million records in the US to date, across seven studio albums and two live albums. In 1993, their musical efforts were recognized, and they were inducted into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame.
While Bad Moon Rising may not be the best known song from the band, or the longest, it is certainly one of my favorite short songs to play in the whole Rock Band platform. Every instrument is great to play, and none are particularly tricky, so they are great for newcomers to the series, or as a warm up song. Guitar and Vocals are especially fun to play, with some catchy lyrics and lots of shift changes to keep things fun. Bass is unsurprisingly easy, yet still engaging, and Drums offers a straightforward chart.
Don’t forget to pick up this song, and also the Pro-Guitar/Bass upgrade too!
Here’s the full band playthrough:
Here’s links to the Pro Guitar and Pro Bass too.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy reading the future posts in this series. Any tracks you would like to see featured? Give us a shout below, along with your thoughts on this pick.
I would appreciate it if you would have a look at my growing fansite, The Tribute Pages and also have a look at the Rock Band 3 page! Thanks!

Love this pack, my personal favourite to play is Travelin’ Band.
Wouldn’t call myself a CCR fan, but I picked up the pack when they had that ridiculous Black Friday sale last year. Definitely some classic songs including this one.

That sale made me a fan. I liked the band’s music (surprisingly, given my taste) and was surprised how much fun they are to play.
I also really appreciated the two Pro upgrades, in the first legacy batch. Though easy, especially on Pro Bass, fun to play.
‘Bad Moon Rising’ is most definitely a good pick from the pack.
My favorite probably remains ‘I Heard It Through the Grapevine’. Would love a Pro upgrade for that.
Best pack released on the platform thus far.
Love the CCR pack. Bad Moon Rising is my favourite song by them, too.
Very nice pick, though I must say my personal favourite from the pack (and by CCR in general) is Lookin’ Out My Back Door.
Might I suggest something from the Hautewerk pack sometime? I understand that it was probably the least popular DLC pack ever released, but I quite like those three songs.

Agreed. I never did understand the general hate that the Hautwerk pack recieved.
