    Yes, more pro upgrades!

These aren’t the hardest songs to play on a real guitar, but they are great for someone who is learning. “Hi Rocksmith, it’s nice you have 2 Nirvana songs on real guitar, but we have 11.”

  • Toad3000 says:

    *slow clap*
I was expecting PJ this week, but Nirvana is almost as good. And that’s pro guitar upgrades for all of Nevermind, right? Well played, HMX. Well played indeed…

    Conriocht13 Reply:

Almost all of Nevermind. In Bloom and Drain You were on-disc (RB1 and RB2 respectively), and HMX have stated on-disc songs can’t get pro-strings upgrades due to some sort of technical limitation. Which is sad, because it would have been awesome to have a full album in the game with pro-strings, so would have been great for them to find a work-around for this release.

    XiXora Reply:

How annoying that In Bloom isn’t or wont be available for pro upgrade.
Oh well. I’ll grab a couple anyway :)

Hopefully “technical limitations” wont be why all this content wont port over to the next console generation! I think I’ll be prodding MS more for that though.

    T Reply:

You realize the same limitations exist on both consoles right? This isn’t some sort of MS driven money grab.

    XiXora Reply:

I am fully aware of where the limitation is.

Still a valid point imo though. Nothing stopping MS or Sony (or Nintendo) from being money grabbers and limiting DLC porting.

    Conriocht13 Reply:

My guess is that the “technical limitation” has to do with updating files that aren’t in the RB store. Since I’m not an employee of HMX, I don’t know for sure, but I think the issue is on their end, not Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo. I don’t expect them to point fingers or go into details, but it would be nice to know if this is something they’re working on trying to get around, or if that’s just the way things are (there are SOOOOO many on-disc songs that would be be awesome on pro-strings, but don’t really *need* an RB3 version).

    MaximusDM Reply:

Well hell, modders have figured it out. There are like 20 custom pro upgraded songs out there. Some of them being disc songs.

    Whizzer Reply:

    @MaximusMD

They don’t have to think of licensing, other than uploading to YouTube. Harmonix can’t risk that, obviously.

Since it’s technically possible, there must be a problem in ascertaining ownership of the content in question.

    Bront Reply:

FYI, the specific technical limitation is that they can’t list them in the store. They have no way to sell them to you.

    Paul Reply:

Exactly. The RB1 songs rip from the disc, which obviously can’t be upgraded. The RB2 songs download as one massive 2GB file, and I don’t think any of the consoles would be thrilled about updating one song out of the export and requiring the users to download the entire thing again.

As far as I know, there is no way to do “if-then” downloads on the stores – as in, “if you paid for the RB1 export code, then you can download a new version of In Bloom” – on any of the three consoles. And I doubt that whoever has the rights to Nirvana’s catalog would be thrilled about throwing the songs up as free for everyone.

  • Chris says:

Well, I can’t say I’m dissatisfied with THIS collection of grunge.

  • Jacob says:

    Wrong Grunge Band!

    RockBandAide Reply:

Never seen the words “Wrong Grunge Band” related to Nirvana ever.

    LoopyChew Reply:

“Wrong Grunge Band?” Is that Harmonix’s newest title release?

    xXG effortXx Reply:

to be honest, im not too stoked abhout it either, but what is the ‘right’ grunge band? is there one?

  • TSarcasm says:

Wow, Rape Me?!? Really? Never thought I’d be playing that one in RB.

    Color me pleasantly surprised!

    Pood LeFache Reply:

It seems the lyrical censoring has backed off a smidge since Harmonix shed their overlords. Not complaining!

    MattyT Reply:

This. My best friend pretty much called this the week of the “I’m With the Chili Peppers” Pack, citing that “Cockblocking” isn’t censored in “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie”. He was like, maybe we’ll get “Rape Me” soon. I was skeptical. Then, “Boom!” Rape Me.

    RickC Reply:

If HMX are going to get more risque with lyrics, I want “Chocolate Salty Balls” from South Park! Sweet little keys solo in it, too.

    Sans Reply:

    HMX, make this happen.

But since Isaac Hayes quit South Park, the chances are slim to none.

    BathTub Reply:

Yet Dyke is still a bad word.

    Pood LeFache Reply:

There are a lot of cases in which dyke is used as a slur, so I imagine that’s why it remains excluded.

    FoxForever Reply:

    Ho was another one.

  • Plutarch says:

Haha, the post makes the DLC sound so anti-climactic. Nirvana’s cool, but I am curious as to what’s going on with that Pearl Jam stuff.

    Vulcanjedi42 Reply:

Our biggest pro week other than maybe Queen is an anticlimax? I dunno, man.

    Plutarch Reply:

I don’t personally think it’s an anticlimax, I just meant that the post was like “Is this what Pearl Jam fans were waiting for?!” and then it wasn’t.

    Paul Reply:

Hey, some of us don’t have the pro guitars.

In my case, it’s mostly due to lack of money for it (which is also the reason why I haven’t bought DLC in about six months), but there isn’t much reason for me to get excited about pro upgrades.

Another option: if you were expecting a ton of Pearl Jam live tracks and got four Nirvana songs…not really the same thing, is it?

  • Conriocht13 says:

This is such a wonderful birthday present to me, HMX, thank you! :p My only minor complaint is the lack of love for Bleach; would have been nice to see more songs off that album, or pro-strings for one of the three we already have. Still, a great pack, I couldn’t be happier to see You Know You’re Right included. Looks like I’m gonna be 18 dollars poorer next week!

  • RBGHfam says:

    UHhhh…..YES!

Didn’t expect this but will be playing Rockband again after a couple of subpar weeks. I’m also very surprised to see Rape me in Rockband.

  • J-Dawg says:

Not a fan, but I have several friends who will be very excited by this…

Shame for them that neither I nor the other guy that hosts RB parties will be buying them! :D

    samjjones Reply:

Put out the tip jar at your next outing, and let your buddies buy them for you!

  • Jason R. says:

Outstanding four-pack! I was always wondering if we’d ever get stuff from In Utero, and this is pretty much my answer. Very much considering getting the entire pack.

  • Franck says:

Awesome ! Because I’m really greedy, I’d have liked pro updates for All Apologies and Rape Me, but that’s already great DLC.

    SubPrime Reply:

    Ditto.

It feels a little weird to complain about this, but on one hand they give us Pro upgrades for every song possible while on the other they give us new songs where only one in four gets the Pro upgrade.

Honestly, I think they should have done this right by not only giving us pro tabs for all the new stuff as well, but by giving is RB3 versions of In Bloom and Drain You so we could get Pro upgrades for them too!

I’m kidding. Well, kind of, b/c I would have bought it if they did. =D

  • Brian says:

PJ has bundles Rock Band DLC with their products before. I wouldn’t be shocked if we see this included with the PJ20 BluRay

    Toad3000 Reply:

That would be a strange cross-promotion, don’t you think?

    Sans Reply:

We would have heard something about that by now. How long did we know about the Backspacer promo?

  • Steadysphere says:

    That’s a lot of Pro upgrades…XD

But yeah, I dont own a protar, so most of this weeks DLC doesn’t apply, but I am satisfied with the pack so it’s all cool, I’d love to be a protarist right now :3

I’m interested in how a couple of these songs will be tiered. I imagine Breed will be quite the challenge on Pro guitar.

  • Dustinator says:

Suck me sideways. This is an effing awesome announcement. So glad In Utero is FINALLY coming to Rock Band!!!

  • FoxForever says:

Welp, that’s the rest of Nirvana for me! Been waiting for “All Apologies” and “Rape Me” for a while. Heart Shaped Box, another GH2 song gone!

  • Andre says:

I don’t like grunge, but I can see this is a big deal for grunge fans. So happy tuesday for them. :)

  • Whizzer says:

I got all of Nevermind at discount, but I think I can afford all of these upgrades. Will have to check if I like these other Nirvana tracks.

  • Jason2087 says:

Great pack and happy to finally get songs from In Utero. And Rape Me is a huge surprise considering content, I don’t think there’s a reason why Nine Inch Nails’s “Closer” can’t be in the game if this is. buying all.

  • Beeks says:

You Know You’re Right = day 1 purchase. Rape Me and All apologies are possibilities too.

  • Beckett says:

MUCH better than Pearl Jam IMO. Buying all 4 easy.

  • Croq says:

Just re-read the announcement and realized that the pro guitar/bass upgrades are going to be available TODAY, no need to wait till Tuesday!!!

  • T says:

“Let’s find out if we got our hopes up or not…”

It’s the Rock Band online community. When HAVEN’T they gotten their hopes up (unrealistically or not). ;)

  • dc32 says:

Sweet, definitely getting the 4 pack and cherry picking the pro upgrades.

  • Joe Cam says:

Can’t wait until Tuesday to buy these, but for how much I played GHII, it’s still going to be weird to play Heart Shaped Box without the extended solo…

  • citric_bullets says:

DLC has been bleeding me dry lately. I don’t even care, this is crazy awesome. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Nemo-Fett says:

    ZzZzz…ZzZzz

    xXG effortXx Reply:

    “Like”

  • xXG effortXx says:

idk if i like this… will pick up ‘heart shaped box’ though. still waiting for some stunning dlc

  • VolTRH says:

Nirvana are definitely not my favorite grunge band, but they’re decent. Gonna get everything but “Rape Me”. I despise that song sooooooo much.

    Kal_el_0724 Reply:

Just out of curiosity, why do you despise “Rape Me”?

    SubPrime Reply:

Yeah, I’m curious about that as well. I really like that song.

  • Craig says:

Did anyone else start to think why they hadn’t released any legacy pro upgrades recently… Then see this and think “….oh..” I’ll be all over heart shaped box the minute it becomes available!

  • Vampire-Jekyll says:

And with ‘HHeart Shaped Box’ that finishes off all the Nirvana songs I could ever ask for.

Nice to see pro charts for Nevermind as alot of these are pretty good entry level guitar parts.

HMXHenry said no Pearl Jam DLC, so you dumass fucks can stop expecting it to happen

    RockBandAide Reply:

    Classy.

    T Reply:

    “Dumbass”.

    Shmoo Reply:

Tweeze, you’re a complete dick. Also, thanks for the heads up.

Wow, I’m gutted. After seeing the list and listening to my old Pearl Jam CDs every morning for the last few weeks I was pretty darn excited.

  • Dave says:

Awesome week! I’m really excited for this, though I would have preferred Pennyroyal Tea (fav Nirvana song) to You Know You’re Right (which makes me think of Hole’s Unplugged performance, lmao).

    Kal_el_0724 Reply:

Maybe there will be one more pack of Nirvana eventually.

    Dumb
    Pennyroyal Tea
The Man Who Sold the World (MTV Unplugged)

And maybe some other random song off of Unplugged or their rarities like Lake of Fire, Sliver, or Aneurysm.

    SubPrime Reply:

Lake of Fire and The Man Who Sold the World would be a little tougher because those are covers.

I’d definitely love a Dive, Sliver, and Aneurysm pack though.

    Kal_el_0724 Reply:

True. And I think there was some sort of speculation around when we got the Unplugged version of Come As You Are that we would not see anymore songs from that album.

Without any of them though, I’m positive this is the last we will see from Nirvana. I couldn’t be any happier with the songs that we have gotten over the years though! :)

    SubPrime Reply:

I always thought they did that because of issues with the masters for both Come As You Are and Lithium.

It would be a little sad if this is the last we see from Nirvana, but sometimes you gotta move on. There are still plenty of bands that I’d like to see DLC for.

    QuestionMark Reply:

I desperately want “Verse Chorus Verse.” Give me that along with Penny Royal Tea and maybe The Man Who Sold the World, though I’d prefer the original.

  • Cian says:

Probably going to grab the pro upgrade for “Smells Like Teen Spirit”. Will eventually get around to buying “Heart Shaped Box” but I need more MS points.

  • BathTub says:

Excellent, definitely picking all these up.

You know, I always thought that the DLC version of Teen Spirit was live, and hadn’t picked it up. weird.

  • Kyle says:

And everyone told me rape me wouldn’t be in Rock Band because it’s vulgure

    Shmoo Reply:

Those people were wrong and poor spellers.

  • Jack says:

For those who are unaware (which seems to be everyone), this week is the 20th anniversary of Nevermind. The album is also being re-released in deluxe editions remastered and with out-takes. Hence this track pack being out this week was kinda predictable.

  • esopo says:

    So happy it wasn’t pj

  • Metamario says:

    Awesome!!! I’m getting it all!

  • Dein Bär says:

It is great that Harmonix continues to pro upgrade old dlc as well!
Time to get more Microsoft points for next week.

  • Saeglopur says:

    You know you’re right! Awesome!!
But it sucks it doesn’t have pro guitar, especially since they are updating almost every Nirvana song with it… but not those new songs, thats stupid :(

  • GloofiE says:

I’m glad they got a bit of In Utero. It’s been a long time waiting. If all of you haven’t already, please go “like” Rock Band 3 on Facebook so we can find out the upcoming artists early.

  • Frank says:

Thank you very much for adding the song previews for already-released songs that are geting pro upgrades.
