Harmonix CEO is a Guitar Hero, Colbert Hero

Here at RockBandAide, we’re not much of a political machine. Left or right, liberal or conservative, democrat or republican… meh. It’s all the same to us. But the same cannot be said for political satirist Stephen Colbert, whose nightly show on Comedy Central lampoons modern day politics via his caricatured version of a conservative political pundit.

Earlier this year, Colbert filed a request with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) asking for a media exemption for coverage of his political action committee (PAC), dubbed ColbertPAC, on The Colbert Report. During a public meeting, the FEC voted 5-1 to grant The Colbert Report a limited media exemption. The exemption allows unlimited donations of airtime and show resources to promote the Colbert Super PAC without requiring disclosure to the FEC, but only for ads appearing on The Colbert Report. Following the hearing, Colbert formally filed paperwork for the creation of his Super PAC with the FEC secretary. Got all that? Don’t worry, there’s no pop quiz here.

Anyway, viewers and fans have been free to donate to Colbert via colbertsuperpac.com. While normally this would never draw the attention of the site, RBA reader Benji sent us a tip that the name of a certain music game developer CEO appeared scrolling at the bottom of a recent episode under the caption “Heroes” as one of the people who donated to the Colbert Super PAC. Could it be the same one? No way to tell for sure, but how many Alex Rigopulos’s do you know? I guess this may have  been his way for thanking Colbert for allowing “Charlene” to appear as Rock Band DLC.

You can see the name scroll by on the July 21st episode, just after 5 1/2 minutes in.

[Thanks, Benji!]
