Another Round of URL “Hacking” Finds Heart, More DLC

It’s been just over a month since a number of people went searching through the RockBand.com artist URL pages looking for future artist DLC. With the exception of EMF, all of the artists uncovered have arrived as Pro Guitar/Bass DLC, so don’t be surprised if Unbelievable appears in the Pro Guitar/Bass DLC announcement this Friday.
While this “hack” only works for artists that currently have no DLC, the latest round has uncovered only two gems so far (expect updates if more are found). While Heart has made a number of appearances in Guitar Hero titles, this find may signal the band’s first appearance in the Rock Band franchise. Here are the bands found thus far:
UPDATE: @HMXHenry confirmed over on the RockBand.com forums that Heart is indeed coming, although it will only be a single, rather than a pack.
[Thanks to Benji & Plutarch for the heads up!]

Oh I hope this means we’re getting Crazy On You. It was one of my absolute favorite Guitar Hero 2 tracks.

Yes. I hope that it also has a pro chart – not that I play that, but I’m morbidly curious to see what it’d look like.
Ha. The links worked and then about 15 seconds later they throw 404′s. Harmonix SHUTTIN IT DOWN

They could do a six pack of Heart easily… they’ve got a lot of good songs that would translate well.

Ehh. Poison was a popular band in the 80′s, but only produced a handful of hits. (Not to mention they’re terrible, but I say that with love)
Heart, on the other hand, was a radio staple in the 70′s and 80′s and even had a hit or two in the 90′s. I would think they’d merit a 6-pack at the least.
But even if it’s just a couple of songs, I’m really excited to see this news. My fiancee and I were just discussing the lack of Heart in RB the other day, after seeing Heart open for Def Leppard in concert.

HMX obviously likes Heart, since Heart covers appeared in the early versions of GH.
I’m assuming there are/were licensing rate issues at play here. Heart might be asking for a lot.
If those have been resolved, and HMX has the pick of their catalog, well…that’s awesome.
If HMX has to settle on less popular tracks because “Barracuda” and “Magic Man” are too expensive…well, that would stink, but I’d rather have *some* of a band’s catalog than none of it.
I’m really fascinated by the DLC/licensing/business negotiation side of all this.
Has Chris R. always been in charge of DLC? Or is this a recent development? I think the HMX DLC strategy since leaving VIA has been excellent…and whoever is in charge of this deserves much love and respect.
Heart, Heart, HEART!!!!!!!!!!!! HELL YES!!!!! I’ve been wanting Heart since Rock band ever came out. Seein the consistantcy of past URL leaks, it looks like Heart is finally coming to Rock Band, thank the Rock gods, lol.

DON’T DO IT!
I hope that isn’t the only Frankie Goes To Hollywood song they make, Two Tribes or The Pleasuredome would be great too
Frankie is obviously just Relax (Don’t do it) but I’m praying for a Heart 3 pack: Barracuda, Crazy On You and These Dreams.
Please, please PLEASE be Crazy On You with pro guitar/bass. PLEAAAASE.
Oh, and both Sing Child and Magic Man would be sweet too. But fuck Barracuda.
Here’s a six pack I could get behind:
1. Crazy On You
2. Barracuda
3. These Dreams
4. Alone
5. Never
6. If Looks Could Kill

5)Heartless
6)Even It Up
The Power of Love, go on, HMX, you know you want to.
They also said Collective Soul leaked:

That trio makes the most commercial sense…but Heart could EASILY support a very rad 10 pack.
1. Crazy On You
2. Magic Man
3. Dreamboat Annie
4. Barracuda
5. Little Queen
6. What About Love
7. Never
8. These Dreams
9. Alone
10. (God help me)…All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You (it WAS a huge hit)
These are all big-time singles/hits, and possibly their most “commercial” 10-pack.

Even if people don’t like the original, they should still check out Halestorm’s cover, and tell me that wouldn’t be fun as hell to play in Rock Band at a party: http://grooveshark.com/s/All+I+Wanna+Do+Is+Make+Love+To+You/3F3FWX?src=5

Hell yeah. Heart is great. And I hope they have the power of love AND Relax in stock. These two are perfect for our parties (at a karaoke bar).
Then we’d have the power of love twice, once by frankie and once by Huey Lewis & the news. Go for it HMX!!!
Please, dear God, let the Heart rumor be true, and *please* let it be at least a 3-pack of songs, if not a 6-pack… Can’t wait to see what title(s) we get, if true that is.
All I want from Heart is barracuda and crazy on you… but I would just love Relax

Cool. Frankie Goes to Hollywood. 1st day purchase for me. Hopefully this Friday it gets announced!! Don’t know Heart other than the “barracuda” song people have been saying. I’ll get that song for sure if it comes out
I like some of their 70s stuff, but Heart’s self-titled album from 1985 has always been my favourite, and I’d much rather get DLC from that album. But I’m probably in the minority here.

Oh my god, their self-titled album was one of the few cassette tapes (heh) we had in my house when I was a kid, that album got played to death and I would gladly buy the entire thing if it were to somehow make it to RB. I think a mix of 70′s and 80′s Heart is most likely (and probably with a new song to promote their new album). Let me take a stab at this:
Crazy on You
Barracuda
Never
These Dreams
Alone
WTF (song off the new album, I think the only new track they played live)
And…it’s official. A 6-pack isn’t enough. I know it’s a long shot, but I’d love to see How Can I Refuse in there.
With Heart, you can’t forget these songs that aren’t mentioned yet:
Straight On
Dog & Butterfly
BARRACUUUDAAAAAAAAAA! pro guitar, make it happen harmonix
Finally. It took long enough for heart to show up. And id bet the Frankie Track, if it’s only 1 song is “Relax” and if it’s 2 songs, “Relax” and “Two Tribes”
I just want “Crazy on You” but a Heart pack would be awesome too.
Hey, that’s Mike Inez in the pic, ain’t it? Damn that guy’s awesome.
I hope the Frankie Goes to Hollywood song isn’t just Relax. This would be our only chance of getting Two Tribes and then we will have 4 (5 if you count the Kids in America cover) songs from the greatest soundtrack ever, GTA Vice City Wave 103.

Please HMX not only a single but a 3 pack would make my day.
Two tribes
Welcome to the plaesure dome
Warriors of the wasteland
And another 3 pack in summer
Relax
War

It might have been a tough pill for HMX to swallow…licensing primarily “hits” instead of songs which they thought would be better suited to actual gameplay…but sales talk, and the people want the HITS…regardless of how easy they are to play.
HMX has really been focusing on artists’ “hits” lately, and that’s why the forums have been raving about the DLC lately. And since the forums are the most cynical and plugged-in of the RB community…if we jaded bastards are applauding the recent DLC, you can bet that the unwashed masses are lapping it up, too.
Ospero Reply:

Just out of curiosity: do you regard that as good or bad? It’s difficult to tell from your post. I for one prefer it that way – when I see an announcement for, say, Puddle of Mudd, I sure hope that Blurry and/or She Hates Me will be among the releases (and so they were). As long as HMX manage to sneak an obscure-but-good track into the packs every now and then, of course – I wouldn’t want Rock Band to fall victim to Nothing But Hits syndrome…
samjjones Reply:
July 7th, 2011 at 6:34 pm
Ospero – not only do I think its a “good” thing, I think its the only viable way that the RB platform can survive in this market.
Soundgarden is on the 19th so what could be DLC on the 12th?

Ospero Reply:
July 7th, 2011 at 11:08 am
No, those issues have been settled by what I can tell from the Wikipedia article. And if Hay has been performing under the Men at Work name, licensing may be tricky, but I wouldn’t call it out of the question.

That’s true, but given the Pro Guitar/Bass availability for RB3, many have hoped that his (and other outspoken opponents) music might finally show up.
Nothing at all to base that on, a LOT of wishful thinking.
If we get some of those bands, I’d be all over it, but I’m not holding my breath that it’ll happen.
FoxForever Reply:
July 7th, 2011 at 6:25 pm
Now all we need is “real” pro drums (as in an actual drum set that can be played). Drum sets vary though depending on the band…so I dunno how that’ll work.
Who actually finds these “hacks” anyway? Are they people who just plug away looking for different artists, or is Harmonix leaking information, like many have speculated?

Its actually pretty easy to write a script to read a bunch of band names out of a list, and then launch the URLs and see if anything is there.
I mean, if somebody were dispositioned to do such a thing.
Personally, I think HMX enjoys toying with us, and am looking forward to some red herrings.

I have wondered about that. Isn’t this like the 3rd straight month we had a “leak” of information on upcoming tracks? Remember how they announced the RB3 setlist?
Manufactured or no, I like having an idea of knowing what is coming on the weeks my paycheck can absorb the cost. helps me plan better.
Can’t wait to see the “URL HACK” for August/Septmeber.
LoL
Barracuda is coming!
FINALLY!!! Please let it be a six pack of Heart’s greatest hits!
Mixed feelings. Maybe Heart will be a large pack but since we haven’t gotten any recently I’m hesitant to get my hopes up. I really really want Heart but I’m going to be heartbroken if Crazy On You or Magic Man are missing, and there’s a good chance one will be if it’s not a very big pack.
samjjones Reply:

HMX has done a fair job of “going back to the well” for artists with deep catalogs.
For example, Pat Benetar had “Heartbreaker” come out as a single, and then a year or whatever later, we got another 6 pack.
The Marley 02 pack, the “Queen Enhanced” pack, Foo Fighters Nth pack, all are good examples.
The sad reality is that the 4-6 song per week schedule kinda limits what they can do, but that has always been a bottleneck. I had hoped that more “big” artists would go the RBN route…since it gives them pretty much complete control over how to distribute over the network, but that has not come to fruition. I’m guessing they either can’t be bothered with the technical work needed to put their stuff on RBN, or they cut a better deal with HMX directly to do the work for them…instead of only getting 30% or whatever their cut of a RBN sale is.
