Official Site URL “Hack” Hints at Poison, Live, A-Ha, more DLC?

The “old” URL hacking technique over at RockBand.com seems to have occurred again, this time with select industrious individuals dropping in the names of some well known artists and finding some interesting placeholders. Many have done this in the past, and the results don’t stay up for long, but this technique is fairly successful at uncovering future DLC offerings. It worked back in September of last year, uncovering Bob Marley, My Chemical Romance, and Doobie Brothers DLC, and again in March, with Foo Fighters, Fleetwood Mac, and more.

This time, this was what was uncovered, along with the link to the placeholder artist page at RockBand.com:

If you find any more, include them below in the comments, and be sure to stop back as I update this post!

  • Doom878 says:

    Love Live. Some good songs

    • RockBandAide says:

Agreed. I always thought they were one of the underrated alternative bands from the 90s.

    • Plutarch says:

“The Dolphin’s Cry” is another Live track I think would kick-ass.

      • Jason R. says:

Really I would only want “Selling the Drama.” The big question is if they release “I Alone,” does the drummer get to wander around aimlessly and not actually do his job like in the video?

    • Greg S. says:

I’ve been requesting them ever since the site went live with a request form. I have fond memories of beating the first Monkey Island game while my brother was blasting the Throwing Copper album… good times.

      • Il Pupazzo G says:

Me too, it’s the only time I used that request from 🙂
Anything from them would be good. Hope Heaven is in. Oh, and a random choice from Throwing Copper would be good too

    • Drossvirex says:

Yeah anything of Live of the first 4 albums. Most anything after is crap.

Throwing Copper is good, but I like Secret Samadhi more. ‘Freaks’ Would be epic.

  • ChrisCross910 says:

Turning Japanese! I’ve been waiting for that for quite a while now, I hope it’s true.

  • Ryan says:

So I’m guessing at least Take on Me, For What it’s Worth, Unbelievable, and Turning Japanese?

  • Brandon says:

Oh my God, I have been wanting Puddle of Mudd on Rock Band FOR-EV-ER. Best possible scenario for me would be full album DLC of Come Clean, but really anything from that CD will do!

    • Jason2087 says:

So have I!!! I’ve requested pretty much EVERY Puddle of Mudd song in the request a song section from their first 2 albums. In all honesty I think it will Only be 1 song 🙁 “Blurry” but oh my god I would love atleast a 3 pack.

    • Krystof_Kage says:

Really hoping for Blurry, one of the few songs I was jealous Power Gig had.

  • Epidehl says:

I would buy stuff from all of these bands except Poison, so here’s hoping it’s true!

  • Chris says:

Buffalo Springfield! Could we finally be getting Neil? (“Mr. Soul,” “Broken Arrow,” “I Am A Child”…)

    • RickC says:

I have been requesting “Southern Man” ever since “Sweet Home Alabama (Live)” came out. Maybe this was as close as HMX could get?

  • Chris says:

Puddle of Mudd is pretty much the worst thing in the world, but I’m down for pretty much any of the rest of that.

    • RockBandAide says:

Ouch. I like ’em, although I did expected this comment.

      • Paul says:

If they give us “She Hates Me” as DLC – even if it’s the radio edit – all will be forgiven.

        • Chris says:

I mean, obviously I don’t care for Puddle of Mudd, but I have nothing against any band being in Rock Band. The more, and the more variety, the better! I’m sure the songs will be fun to play.

Not a big Live fan, either, but I’d love to have “I Alone,” hoping that makes it.

        • Dustinator says:

I would LOVE it if “She Hates Me” was released. Along with that other one that goes, can you take it all away…..that song. Glad PoM is coming to RB

    • QuestionMark says:

Yeah, they’re absolutely horrible. That said, I’ve found that some of the heavy, RAWK-type bands that I dislike I actually enjoy drumming to a lot (Breaking Benjamin, for example).

And I’ll admit to enjoying “Psycho.” I hope it’s that and Blurry at the least.

      • Choz says:

A few million hours of Rock Band as tought me that song I like to hear and songs I like to play are not exactly the same, either.

  • Andre says:

    A-Ha??

    Woo-hoo!!!

  • Jason R. says:

This will give me a chance to emulate the hilarious lead singer of Live!

  • Sean says:

Dammit Dog, you ruined all the fun!

  • Fuelie79 says:

Live and Puddle of Mudd sounds great! As longs as they’re good songs of course…

  • RickC says:

I will probably buy “Take On Me”, “Unbelievable”, and “Turning Japanese”, assuming those are the songs.

HMX should put placeholders for a bunch of Muse and Metallica and Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin songs, just as a tease. Never release them. That would be really funny in a not funny at all kind of way. 😉

  • Kirksplosion says:

Very nice. I’d pick up at least one song from each of these. Would love Buffalo Sprinfield’s “For What It’s Worth” and Puddle of Mudd’s “Blurry”.

  • Daniel says:

A-Ha – please Take On Me!
Buffalo Springfield – please For What is Worth!
    EMF – will be Unbelievable
    Live – please Operation Spirit!
Poison – please Talk Dirt to me!
The Vapors – will be Turning Japanese

    Puddle of Mudd… pass…

    • Sean says:

I’d rather have “Unskinny Bop” for Poison if we were to get one single. Hopefully it’s a 6 pack though, so that we can make everyone happy.

      • Fred says:

I think the Poison will be a pack of at least 3 songs. Would love a Greatest Hits edition though with like 8 to 12 songs. I expect Live to get some sort of pack as well, which would be awesome. As for A-Ha, will definitely be “Take On Me”. But I would love “The Sun Always Shines On TV” as a single as well.

        • Rockox says:

“Train of Thought” and “Hunting High and Low” would be awesome too.

          • Fred says:

Sounds like a good pack to me!

          • jfh2112 says:

That’s the song I was trying to think of the other day! Thanks! Ideal for me, then, would be “Take On Me”, “The Sun Always Shines on TV”, and “Hunting High and Low”.

    • Kyle says:

Operation Spirit on pro drums…think about it. Do we know which album artwork was up there?

      • Beeks says:

Make it a Mental Jewelry pack and do Operation Spirit (awesome drums), Pain Lies On the Riverside (that frigging bassline), and The Beauty Of Gray, and we’re talking.

  • tinykoko says:

oh my god. I have been wanting Live since my very first time playing RB1.

    • UPRKDarkwolf says:

You and me both… I hope to see Iris and Lakini’s Juice as DLC… my two favorite Live songs.

  • pancho says:

    taaaake oooon meeeee…

  • tinykoko says:

Also EMF- Unbelievable is an awesome song. I would definitley go for poison and a-ha, and puddle of mudd after seeing them last summer.

  • Doom-878 says:

Wouldn’t mind Talk Dirty To Me with pro strings even though GH3 has it. Watching Rock of Love ruined Every Rose

  • Grosi says:

    I FOUND A NEW ONE:
    Airbourne

  • ManfredvonKarma says:

Oh man, looks like we’ll be getting some more magic that was in GH80s.

    • GlassMoe says:

Speaking of which, was I the only one that was disappointed that “Radar Love” in RB3 wasn’t the 80’s version from GH80s? They’re both great songs, but I LOVE hair/glam/metal/rock/whatever from the 80’s.

      • Sean says:

I was actually happy that we got the original version. I love Golden Earring (yes, I actually like their material outside of “Radar Love” and “Twilight Zone”), and personally like the original version.

The White Lion version is alright, but I don’t think it would be as fun at all.

        • jfh2112 says:

This is the correct answer. 🙂 I heard the White Lion version recently, and it’s OK, but it just doesn’t compare to the original, IMO. I’m much happier with Golden Earring.

“Twilight Zone” would be nice, though…

      • ManfredvonKarma says:

You’re not the only one. I absolutely love the White Lion version, and it probably would have been a bit more fun on guitar.

      • pancho says:

No, you weren’t the only one.
Now all we need is for Harmonix to release Extreme’s “Play With Me,” and I can exchange my GH: Smash Hits copy for a McChicken.

      • Whizzer says:

It would probably have been more fun on guitar, and only from a gameplay point of view. It doesn’t have the passion I hear in the original. No build-up in the choruses, the drum solo is ruined.

  • andy says:

Wonder if some of those GH contracts are just now expiring… we seem to be getting a good amount of bands/songs from GH3 just recently with Dragonforce, Santana, and now Poison. If this is the case, then maybe those contracts are about 3 years in length.

So that would have made these bands eligable for other franchises around the end of 2010, so you figure a few months for licensing/authoring/testing/submission which brings us to about now

    • David says:

We’ve gotten hundreds of Guitar Hero songs going as far back as Rock Band 1.

      • andy says:

this is true, but Santana and Brett Michaels had avatars available in GH3 while Dragonforce had a song featured in the game as well as DLC for the game

        • David says:

Tom Morello, Kurt Cobain, Hayley Williams, Sting, Jimi Hendrix, Travis Barker, Ozzy Osbourne, Johnny Cash, and No Doubt had avatars in Guitar Hero games, then later had songs in Rock Band.

          • Imdaboss says:

But they mostly likely did not sign an exclusive contract with GH.

          • pancho says:

And Courtney Love (Cobain’s former wife) and No Doubt filed lawsuits for the butchering of the Artists’ avatars in the game.
Jon Bon Jovi declined the use of his avatar for the game. Smart man, he is.

Still, it was lulz-worthy to see Ozzy sing “La Bamba.”

  • QuestionMark says:

Wow, this is some great stuff. I was just thinking a few days ago, while watching VH1’s Greatest One Hit Wonders of the 90s how awesome that stupid EMF song would be. And “Take On Me” has been sorely needed since we got the keyboards.

I really enjoy Live. I’ll hope for at least a 3-pack, if not 6:

    I Alone
    Dolphin’s Cry
    Lakini’s Juice
    Lightning Crashes
    All Over Me
    Selling the Drama

Yeah, they’re all hits. So sue me.

Oh, and Buffalo Springfield! “For What It’s Worth” will be a great addition.

    • tinykoko says:

i watched that special too and said the same thing haha. but i totally agree on those Live songs 🙂

  • Nick says:

As the person who found March stuff (initially), I can tell you that url hacks have only worked for artists with pro guitar parts so Peter Frampton did not produce a result and every artist found in March had at least 1 pro guitar chart. So while not confirmed, it is likely these artists have pro charts.

  • Tim the Enchanter says:

The only Puddle of Mudd song I like is ‘Away From Me’ but I assume Blurry would be the song to make it in the game.

  • Deca says:

As much as I hate to admit it, I’m really excited about the possibility of Blurry. Ace Combat 5 mangg

  • Vampire-Jekyll says:

I’m already dreading the inevitable playthrough of ‘Every Rose has its Thorns.’ 🙁

  • Eric says:

Hopefully this means we’ll be getting a sweet 80s pack! but I’m still fine with just Take On Me. I’ve wanted that song in Rock Band ever since the keyboard was announced.

  • Crunk Posby says:

Harold Camping just predicted that a Muse 10 pack will be released on June 6th, and then the world will end a few minutes later!

  • samjjones says:

Would actually be kinda hilarious if the A-Ha song was not “Take On Me”. That’s one of the three or four songs that I’ve been pinging on “Request a Song” for 3 or 4 years now. “Working For The Weekend” appears to have worked, too 🙂

My wife is going to freak when they get Poison in this thing. I think a 4 or 6 pack would suffice.

  • Hatu Chakulet says:

I really want Wrathchild, Rock Band needs some early Iron Maiden. Their whole first album would be awesome.

  • Whizzer says:

Can’t say I know a whole lot of any of these bands, but some names of songs I read sound familiar. I’ll give them a listen, in due time. Which might not be until they actually hit the game as DLC.

  • DanteSparda504 says:

Great news about Poison. I hope it’s a big pack. MOAR HAIR METAL!
Talk Dirty to Me, Unskinny Bop, Nothin’ but a Good Time, I Want Action, Look What the Cat Dragged In, You Momma Don’t Dance, Fallen Angel, Ride the Wind, Something to Believe In, and Every Rose Has It’s Thorn(for the mainstream crowd)

They need a huge pack. Been dying for Poison for awhile now. Talk Dirty to Me, Unskinny Bop, and Nothin’ But a Good Time were some of the most fun songs I played in Guitar Hero.

  • FoxForever says:

If this method still works I want to try “ABBA”.

  • johnnyboyblade says:

^ Well the links don’t work anymore so I presume it no longer works.

Surely HMX is doing this intentionally and then fixing the “problem” once all the bands have been found out.

    Surely this isn’t a coincidence.

    • Adam says:

I’d say the first time might’ve been an honest-to-God mistake. But the subsequent times, when they know people have used the method to find these out? Unless they think “People won’t try it again…right?”

      • johnnyboyblade@hotmail.com says:

        lol

        I can just imagine it.

HMX: Surely our fans aren’t THAT desperate to know future upcoming artists that they would actually go to the trouble of checking whether that URL tactic works every day…

        *Next Day*

        HMX: GOD DAMMIT NOT AGAIN!

  • flame95 says:

Who was this anonymous person? My money’s on Ryan Giggs.

  • Matt says:

Bleh, I only care about A-Ha out of these.

  • BravoGangUS says:

    A-Ha – Take on Me

Poison – Every Rose Has Its Thorns
    and/or
Poison – Talk Dirty to Me

    The Vapors – Turning Japanese

    …please?

  • CCDaDon says:

Yes, Airbourne(AKA AC/DC’s worst genetics cloned) has had songs before, but it’s interesting that now that all the links have died, the link to THEIR page has died as well

  • RBGHfam says:

I just tried a couple place holder addresses of bands and got a server maintenance message 🙂

I’m a huge Live fan, I hope its not just a single track. A 6 pack would be really cool.

    Something like:
    Operation Spirit (Mental Jewelry)
    Good Pain (Mental Jewelry)
    Lightning Crashes (Throwing Copper)
    White Discussion (Throwing Copper)
    The Dolphins Cry (Live)
    Run Away (Live)

with an extra song (I Alone) if you buy the whole pack…..JK 😀

  • Goldskarr says:

Link for Puddle of Mudd is down, but as a drummer, I’d love to see Blurry.
Truth be told, I don’t know any of their songs other than Blurry.
But I think these hacks do more harm than good, at least for Harmonix by spoiling their secrets weeks in advance. :I

    • Tim the Enchanter says:

I kind of agree. I was excited at the beginning of the week of having no idea whats in store for the month of June after knowing basically everything in May from the beginning.

Oh well, I guess if I really didn’t want to get spoiled, I wouldn’t come to this site so I secretly want to know whats (potentially) coming. I just have a picky sense of what I like so it sucks if there is nothing to look forward to for a few weeks. Lucky for me this time around, I like the rumored stuff. Yayy!

  • Rod says:

Live? Sweet. But the song I’d love most of all from them is a (relatively) obscure one: “Stage”, from Throwing Copper.

    Pure rockin’ awesomeness.

  • Vince says:

EMF, really? Unbelievable is such a terrible song. What kind of tool would buy that?

    • RockBandAide says:

      This again? OK, fine…

Music is subjective. No two people share the exact same musical tastes. Some people hate a particular artist/song, while others love it. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

Please remember that other people may enjoy the song and they probably don’t appreciate being called a tool.

    • Rockox says:

      This tool might.

  • aaron says:

    take on me,
    unbelievable,
    turning japanese,
    she hates me,
    unskinny bop,
    every rose has it’s thorn,
    talk dirty to me,
would be a very epic month for me if these came to light.
being in the uk, i have to say that i’ve never heard of the band called “live”. but a lot of you folks seem to be fans, so, well, they must be awsome!
But this week we get bruno mars. They’re going for voriety, definitely. Will I be buying any of it? Afraid not. We’ll just have to wait until next friday’s announcement.

  • Ian says:

Live’s “Pillar of Davidson” where two vocalists can sing the separate parts at the end would be epic.
