What If… Dr. Dre Feat. Eminem – “Forgot About Dre”

As we’ve recently passed the 3,000 song mark in Rock Band, it’s a pretty remarkable accomplishment. Three THOUSAND songs is a LOT of songs in Rock Band, no doubt, but iTunes alone has over 13 MILLION songs, so the volume of songs outside of Rock Band is truly staggering. And while there is no way to reasonably predict what songs will come out next in Rock Band, it is fun sometimes to speculate. And that’s what this (hopefully recurring) post intends to posit: What if a certain song was released as DLC for Rock Band? What would it look like? What would the reception be? Would it be an appropriate fit for the library and the fans?

With the advent of the Rock Band Network, the tools to produce songs to be played in Rock Band are now available to everyone, even those who have no intention of making music available to purchase. Some industrious fans of the game are able to make custom songs that can be played locally, and this is the pool from which we will make our (again, hopefully weekly) selections.

First up, is a song from a genre that is rarely seen in Rock Band, but one that I think gamers have a healthy appetite for. With the first selection, we have chosen YouTuber, Rock Band superfan, and DLCQuickplay.com founder Non_Zero’s custom track for Dr. Dre featuring Eminem’s “Forgot About Dre.”

Add your thoughts below on whether you think this song would be a good addition to the Rock Band library!

And if you know of any custom songs that you would like to see featured here in the future, drop us a line via the contact page!

    I would buy this.

    Interesting (if controversial!) topic.

Would like to see what “November Rain” (or pretty much anything off of Use Your Illusion) would look like with keys.

  • zero.echelon says:

Post Muse’s Knights of Cydonia custom, so all “Moas Muse”rs will poop their pants xD

  • samjjones says:

Most of the stuff off of Dre’s “The Chronic” and all of Eminem’s solo “hits” would sell like hotcakes as DLC.

I’d like to see what “Empire State of Mind” would look like with pro keys and harmonies, and pretty much anything GNR, too.

I like when RB delves into the “pop” territory. Gaga sold very well. I’m sure Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas…all of that stuff would do well in the platform. There’s room for everything here.

Bruno Mars was an interesting test case, because he’s not super-duper popular (i.e., not all 35 year old married dudes are familiar with his work) just yet.

There was also a custom run of L’arc en Ciel’s “Ready Steady Go.” The lyrics were in romanji, so that answered my question on foreign lyrics.

  • Croq says:

I wouldn’t care if either of these were added, any artist is welcome! I just wouldn’t buy them.

  • smacd says:

Its a really case by case basis. There are customs out there that I doubt would ever see the light of day (Slash-era GnR, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, studio AC/DC, and even less known stuff), but would love to see charting done.

This one specifically? sure it’d sell well, but its not something I’d get even if I liked the song. It really highlights for me the lack of any real musicality in rap as a genre. All four of the music charts are pretty much the same two bars repeated through the entire song, and the vocals are all talkies. This would be a prime example of the worst kinds of charts out there, which are just mind-numbingly boring to play.

  • Andre says:

As a plastic guitar player, I find the chart an utter bore. Snoop Dogg managed to edit his songs to make it more Rock Band friendly, though, and I bought a bunch of tracks. Just my 2c.

  • Neil says:

I’d only buy it if it was Uncensored, that’s the only way to listen to Eminem, or any rapper like Dr. Dre, Ludacris, or 50 Cent

    • BathTub says:

Same, one of the reasons I skipped the Snoop Dogg.

    • Ryan says:

Um, you may want to rephrase that. I read that and all I hear is, “I wanna hear them talk like growed-ups.”

      • Neil says:

haha well played sir…The only way i’d buy this or any other song that i like with lyrics that should be “censored” is if it’s uncut. That goes for Sevendust too cause if Face to Face happened to come to RB it better be uncut, cause look what they did to Disturbed and RHCP’s Sir Psycho Sexy

  • TSarcasm says:

Maybe Harmonix needs to come up with a “Disc Jockey” turntable game, and include guitar and keyboard functionality. 😉

I’ll parrot the thoughts of others… feel free to add it, but I’m not buying it. As much as I listened to The Chronic (not to mention Straight Outta Compton) in my youth, I have no desire to play those songs – or the current equivalent – in Rock Band.

  • Samurai Judge says:

I would buy it. Unfortunalty it would be heavily censored.
    but i wouldnt mind

  • JAM Renaissance says:

Like Gaga, I think this is the kind of thing where Internet Reaction would be inversely proportional to sales.

That said, I’d own this on launch day.

  • AntDogs says:

yes i would def buy this.. want more Hip Hop on Rock Band Any day!

  • nathan says:

add some uncensored eminem to the game, i’ll get back into it

  • non_zero says:

    What the shizzle

  • RBGHfam says:

Its not difficult at all, but this is a must have party song! So yes absolutely would be huge, its fun and thats the point. I can think of another dozen, not to mention pop song like love the way you lie and I need a doctor.

I’d rather see zeppelin, floyd or radiohead but would buy this instantly.

  • Star Man says:

You would have to pay me to own this song. What rock band is truly missing is Led Zeppelin and songs from GnR’s Appetite for Destruction.

  • Mike says:

I’d be all over this like a dick rash.

  • gladiatory2k says:

I know it’s over played, but I would love to get lose yourself in rock band.

  • Vampire-Jekyll says:

Wow, would have never thought (L4D’s) Louis could rap like that.

  • King Arthur says:

I would love to see “Trololo.”

  • klmstars says:

I think this is great, some Dre and Eminem would be a great addition to the Rock Band Library. I can already see my buddies and I crackin’ smiles as we attempt to keep up with their flows.

  • esopo says:

Like this post topic. I’d also buy day 1

  • AshtrayRed says:

    I’d probably buy it.

If I could afford the tools myself, I’d gladly make my own content with the tons of music just from Austin alone that’d be great in the game (Blue October, Pushmonkey, Bob Schneider, Vallejo, Dirty Wormz, Asylum Street Spankers, Monte Montgomery, Eric Johnson, just to name a few, lol).

  • PyramidHead says:

I wouldn’t get it, I’m mostly a plastic guitar player and I already have No Doubt’s The Climb.

  • Coolstyles says:

Why not get some Japanese music. They are great for all instruments. I’d love to see bands like Supercell, or maybe more X Japan in Rock Band.

  • TepidShark says:

I know they made an attempt before to actually but Crush 40 (AKA songs from later Sonic games) would be amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hz8lVDy1svU

  • The Beef says:

I would never get it, and I’d get a sick feeling in my stomach just knowing it was on Rock Band at all, but it’d sell for sure and it’s chartable, so why not?

  • dalton d says:

i like the what if section and hope to see more

  • Maztuhmind says:

yah this would be awesome on vox. pretty funny how the sound effects are charted.

  • non_zero says:

I just realized this is my second custom to be featured here, the first was my FreeCreditReport.com song. Feels good, man.

  • Josh says:

I only listened to the opening piano and I was already sold! Would buy first day.

  • Speed Kills says:

I would personally love it, I think it would be a blast to do vox on. As with many of the Eminem songs, but this is one I throw on while I’m driving sometimes to bring the ride to life.

As far as something I’d like to see added, being a drummer I cannot get enough A7X and I would like “A Little Piece of Heaven” but only drums have been custom charted. So I’ll go with “Fiction”

  • Polka Nuns says:

Reminds me of the day I eagerly brought home the shiny new piano sheets for “U Cant Touch This”, and was COMPLETELY P!$$3D it was only 3 notes … over … and over … and over.

    Yeah, that dates me.

Rap mostly suffers from same playabilty pattern:
Drums n Vox would be party fun, but all the other instruments better find an alternate *ahem;) way to make their parts interesting.

  • Ryan says:

This is a song I created way back when RBN was first getting started. Take a trip down nostalgia lane with 2ge+her (MTV’s boy band equivalent to Spinal Tap) with their hit song, “The Hardest Part of Breaking Up (Is Getting Back Your Stuff).”

    Some notes to go over:
    1. The I only authored the track, I am not the YouTube user that posted it.
    2. This was one of my first times making a full custom, so there are plenty of mistakes.

  • Henry Baron says:

Try getting Any song by Genesis into RBN (Especially Supper’s Ready or The Musical Box)
