Thursday Throwback: Pat Benatar – Hit Me With Your Best Shot

I really do take Rock Band for granted sometimes. If it wasn’t for Rock Band, I wouldn’t have discovered a lot of amazing bands and artists. One of my recently discovered artists from Rock Band is Pat Benatar. I really liked some of her recent tracks released in her February 6-pack (We Belong and Love is a Battlefield especially), so I thought I would feature one of the earlier released singles as this week’s Thursday Throwback post, Hit Me with Your Best Shot.

This song was released as a DLC single for Rock Band in February 2009, and was also featured on the Classic Rock Track Pack (a cover version is featured in Guitar Hero 3, for those keeping track). Easily one of her most recognizable tunes, it was no coincidence that it was Ms. Benatar’s first Top 10 song, as the single sold over one million copies.

The Tier 3 Drums are quite fun to play, due to frequent changes in the pattern. I have not played the song on Pro Drums, but it doesn’t appear to be much harder. The Tier 3 Guitar chart looks unsurprisingly similar to Guitar Hero 3′s, so expect simple but fun gameplay, with a great solo. The Tier 0 Bass does appear to be mirror much of the Tier 3 guitar (outside of the solos), while making less use of chords. As Bass and Guitar are quite similar in this song, if you like one, you should like the other! Add a Tier 1 Vocal chart, and this song is a blast.

I was unable to find a full band playthrough video, but included below are individual Guitar/Bass and Drum charts.

I kindly suggest fixing the link.

    Nevermind!

Remember, folks: This song is not an excuse to punch your vocalist.

    I laughed.

I love Benatar, though this song is far from my favorite. I’m partial to Heartbreaker and Invincible myself. The six-pack they released was epic…though I’m still hoping for “Hell is For Children” at some point.

    Dustinator Reply:

Funny. My wife and I cannot stand Heartbreaker.

This is a good throwback. One of the few female artists that I enjoy playing.

Last year, I moved far away from my group of friends. We’re finally hosting a BBQ this weekend and inviting everybody down. Haven’t played RB with these people in almost a year. I have a newly purchased stage kit and probably a thousand dollars of DLC purchases since the last time we got together.

How does this relate to Pat Benatar? SHADOWS OF THE NIGHT SETLIST ENCORE, BABY!

The guitar solo is sooo fun to play.

Other than it being a cover in GH3 (which still sounded great), the other significant difference was that the RB version also included a BRE which took away the ability to have unique control of that twang picking ending and instead play any note to equal the same sound. At least RB got an original version!

Also, the first GH game on the DS included a master version, IIRC. GH: Smash Hits also had this one.

Always fun trying to drum along with Myron Grombacher. Didn’t realize that the GH3 version was a cover!

You didn’t know Pat Benatar before she came to Rock Band? Man, I must be getting old. :P
I love this song, as well as all of the other DLC tracks that have been released since. This one is a pretty easy track, but definitely a lot of fun, particularly on guitar and vox. I’m not sure if I’ve played the drum part on this, maybe I should give it a shot next time…
